1969 Mercury Cougar Xr7 428 Cj "q" Code Project Car, 99% Rust Free, Tilt-away on 2040-cars
Crestwood, Kentucky, United States

Up for auction is my 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 "Q" Code 428CJ Project car. I purchased this car from the original owner in 2004 and the car had been sitting since 1978. When I bought the car it came with no engine or transmission and a 28 spline rear end for a 390 car. Everything else for the car is original and the car had never been disassembled. The original owner parked the car after the engine failed (rod or crack, unknown).
This Cougar is probably the best project I ever purchased. It is nearly rust free (pin holes in cowl from pine needles) and was never wrecked. I no longer have a garage big enough to work on this one and it needs to go. This is your opportunity to purchase a 428CJ Cougar at a fair price. The work I have completed on the car is as follows: Disassembly and storage of parts, the parts have been stored on a shelf and kept separate from my other "stuff" to keep the car as original as possible. Soda Blasting of entire body, inside and out. Primered and body work started. Engine compartment, undercarriage and wheel wells completed with Satin Black finish. No metal work was necessary. Seam sealing of undercarriage Rear end restored (pictured) even though not the original one. The car is shown on a cart but is no longer on it. Buyer will have to either bring a cart to move the car or I can build one for you for a small fee. Buyer will also have to have enough room to move all the parts associated with the car. All parts on the shelf will be moved out of my basement in preparation of your arrival. All bolts, parts etc were meticulously labeled to facilitate reassembly. See Marti Report for options and confirmation that this is a REAL 428CJ Cougar. I have the original owner's clear Georgia title with the car and all other necessary paperwork to transfer this awesome 428CJ to your garage. The car also has the original tilt-away steering column, console (rough shape), interior (great shape for age), 4 wheels and tires, Any engine parts for the car are missing. I have an engine I had planned to install in this car, ready for assembly but it is not included in this auction. I will entertain additional offers to include the engine and transmission (C6 already built). Remember, the engine and transmission are not included in this auction. Only 140 Cougars were produced with this engine and transmission codes. This is your chance to own a piece of rare history. I can be reached at 502-445-3993 to answer any of your questions and entertain offers. Please don't send me low ball offers as they will be rejected anyway. I can also help with transport within 300 miles of Crestwood, KY. $1.75 per mile round trip as calculated by Google maps. |

Ford Recalling 70k Escape and Mariner Hybrids for cooling issue
Fri, 12 Sep 2014Ford is recalling about 70,209 examples of the 2005-2008 Ford Escape Hybrid and the 2006-2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid because the cooling pumps for their hybrid systems could fail.
According to the company's defect notice, it's possible for the original "Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) Pump" to wear out and fail, which would could cause the hybrid system to overheat. If this happens, the vehicle goes into a safety mode that takes away most or all of its power. However, braking and steering still operate normally. After cooling down, the affected models restart normally. The company says that it's not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.
Ford will begin repairing the vehicles in late October, and dealers will be installing improved, brushless pumps on the affected models at no charge to owners. If drivers had their pumps fail before this recall, they can contact Ford for a possible reimbursement. Scroll down to read the recall announcement from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or download the full defect notice as a PDF, here.
NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs
Mon, 11 Mar 2013It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.
Ford recalls 600,000 older-model sedans for braking issue
Fri, Dec 20 2019Ford is recalling 600,166 older-model Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles over an issue that could affect braking and increase the risk of a crash. The safety recall covers certain Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan and Lincoln MKZ sedans from the 2006 through 2010 model years that were built at Ford’s Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Mexico between Feb. 22, 2006, and July 15, 2009. Ford says a valve that is normally closed inside the hydraulic control unit may get stuck in the open position or be slow to close, which could make it harder to engage the brakes and increase risk of a crash. Ford says itÂ’s aware of 15 reports of accidents and two injuries possibly related to the issue. Dealers will inspect the hydraulic control unit for signs of the problem and replace it, if necessary. The dealers will pressure-flush the system with brake fluid and replace the reservoir cap with a new one. Ford is also issuing a small recall of 33 of its 2020 F-150 trucks in the U.S. and 51 in Canada over potentially damaged spare tires. It says the bead area on the tires may have been damaged when it was mounted onto the wheel assembly, leaving it vulnerable to corrosion, separation of the bead wire and ultimately a rapid loss of air pressure and detachment from the wheel. Dealers will replace the spare tire. Affected vehicles were built at the Dearborn Truck Plant from Nov. 10-21 of this year.
