This 69 Cougar was being built to go on the power tour in 2013, all of the drivetrain was gone through and it was converted from a automatic to a 5-speed at this time. This cougar runs great and drives great, when shifting into 3rd it will sometimes grind, I think it is an adjustment issue for the clutch cable but it could be the trans. if you make sure the pedal is all the way to the floor it doesn't grind. The front suspension was rebuilt and subframe connectors were added. It has had new quarter panels installed, they are welded but the bodywork wasn't finished. The seats were redone and new carpet installed,new weatherstripping and headliner come with the car. It has a brand new dual exhaust system and also new 15 inch American Racing torque thrust wheels and tires.Center console is in good shape and it has a nice crack free rim blow steering wheel. New front spoiler and boss 429 style hood scoop. It has power steering and power disc brakes with a/c it may be a little low on Freon but it does work. This is a really nice driving car that just needs some body and paint work. It is very smooth and quiet,the exhaust has a nice mellow note to it but is not too loud.This cougar had a black vinyl top but the holes were welded up when the quarters were installed.All of the sheetmetal is in good shape,both doors will need small patches in the usual places but they are not big maybe 2inch by 4 inch.The headlight doors operate very well and will stay closed for a week if the car is left without being started.All of the trim that is not on the car is included and in the trunk as well as some extra stuff.

Translogic drives wood-burning Mercury Beaver XR-7

You read the title right, we're talking about the Mercury Beaver XR-7. No, Mercury never officially built a car called the beaver. This is the brainchild of upstate New Yorker Chip Beam, who owns and operates Beaver Energy, LLC. It runs on gases created by wood pellets fermented in a 2,400-degree furnace and fed to a supercharged Ford 4.6-liter V8.
By all accounts, it gets down the road just fine, and has pretty close to full power. The best part is, you can grow the fuel yourself and avoid patronizing big oil, if that's your thing. The only drawback that we can see to the Mercury Beaver XR-7 is the PVC pipe jungle occupying the space that would be the trunk under normal circumstances.

Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage

The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.

NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder

There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.
