Offering for sale is a very restorable, loaded with options, 1967 Mercury Cougar. This CAT has a DSO, district sales office code, of 84 which is Home Office Reserve. It is loaded with options A/C, power steering, power disc brakes, 289 4-V engine, C-4 transmission, low fuel warning light (very rare on a car this early), 5 styled steel wheels and the spare is the original tire. This Cougar was partially disassembled by a PO. Have boxes of parts and hardware. I restore classic Mustangs and have owned several Cougars over the years. I won't do like alot of Mustang enthusiasts and strip all the goodies of this special Mercury Cougar. This is a project car, the engine is apart and in the car. No guarantee that every piece, part, bolt, etc is here, but will include one of everything that I do have of the parts that are boxed up or otherwise placed in the car. When this Cougar was first retrieved from retirement by a PO/scout, a chain was tied around the bumper, DUH, I have another front grille for it, but not sure if I have a bumper. Do have a decent daily driver bumper for the rear. Would like to see this Cougar get the proper restoration it deserves, but once you buy it, you can do anything you can live with doing to it. Here's a couple of pics to get this auction started. More to come as I catalog the contents. Winning bidder is responsible for all transportation costs. If this classic 1967 Mercury Cougar doesn't sell, it could visit my restoration shop during slow hours and the price will be higher the next time it's offered. Available for inspection during the week, also for sale locally and I reserve the right to end auction if no bids have been placed. This vehicle is sold on a Bill of Sale, Alabama Title Laws started in 1975, can be processed into a Tennessee Title for $200 to cover title and taxes. Please don't bid if you don't have the money or a way to move it. When was the last time you saw a Cougar driving down the street?! Good luck!

NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.

2023 Grand National Roadster Show Mega Photo Gallery | Hot rod heaven

Wed, Feb 8 2023

POMONA, Calif. — From an outsider's perspective, it would be easy to assume that the Grand National Roadster Show has always been a Southern California institution. After all, it celebrates the diverse postwar car culture of the region — hot rods, lead sleds, lowriders, and more. However, the show had its roots in NorCal in 1950 when Al Slonaker and his hot rod club showed their custom cars at the Oakland Expo. The GNRS moved to Pomona, California, in 2004. By then it had grown exponentially and seen about a dozen more car customization trends come and go. However, the show and its centerpiece award, the America's Most Beautiful Roadster prize, celebrate what is perhaps the first of those trends: the American hot rod in its purest form. Today, in its 73rd year, the GNRS is the oldest indoor car show in America. Annually it welcomes 500-800 cars, gathered into special themes like Tri-Five Chevys or Volkswagen Bugs. At this year's show, which was last weekend, a special hall was dedicated to pickup trucks built between 1948-98, including mini-trucks, groovy camper bed conversions, and resto-mods.  However, of all the vehicles presented, only nine are eligible for the America's Most Beautiful Roadster award. Winners get their names engraved on a 9-foot-tall perpetual trophy that was, according to The Ultimate Hot Rod Dictionary, the largest in the world when it debuted in 1950. Slonaker chose the word "roadster" initially because "hot rod" bore slightly negative outlaw connotations in 1950. Only American cars built before 1937 of certain body styles — roadsters, roadster pickups, phaetons, touring cars — are eligible, and they cannot have roll-down side windows.  Cars in the running for the cup cannot have been shown anywhere else before their debut at the GNRS.  Contestants for this accolade essentially build their cars to the a platonic ideal of a hot rod. This year the honors went to Jack Chisenhall of San Antonio, Texas, for his "Champ Deuce," a 1932 Ford Roadster. It's exactly what you picture when you think of a hot rod, but distilled to its absolute essence.  Other standouts included "Green Eyes," a two-tone green 1959 Chevy El Camino  with a heavily metal-flaked bed, "Blue Monday," a 1964 Buick Riviera lowrider, and a personal favorite, "Purple Reign," a purple and black 1951 Mercury. Cars may have started out as tools, but there aren't shows like this filled with custom refrigerators.

Kit Cat: Mercury Cougar makes perfect Bugatti Veyron substitute

Bugatti Veyron kit car - Click above for high-res image gallery
If you've got a pulse in your wrist and a snapping brain cell in your head, chances are you wouldn't mind parking a Bugatti Veyron in your garage. But for most mere mortals, scrounging up the cash for a physics-bending piece of 16-cylinder glory would require all sorts of unpalatable tasks. Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.
Oh, and $89,000.
