We started with a BC rust free 1967 Cougar XR7.  Completely stripped it down to the frame and removed the original 289-2v engine and builted and balanced a 347 stroker using only the best of parts including holley 4 barrel carb, edlebrock intake, roller rockers, multi cut values, flat top pistons, forged rods, billet crank and Hedman headers. Next we replaced the original 3 speed with a Tremec five speed transmission.  We rebuilt the rear axle using posi 3:55 gears.  Replaced all shocks, idler and front end bushings, ball joints and tie rod ends.  We used the original rally wheels, trim rings and centres which look like new.  On these wheels we installed new Cooper Cobra P225/70 R14 tires.  We installed complete 2 1/2 inch exchaust with Magaflow mufflers.  The body panels where reworked, painted 7 times and aligned better than new.  The paint is Wimbleton White and is super smooth.  All frame rails are clean, solid and undercoated.  Vinyl top is new.  Both bumpers, grilles and grille mouldings are like new.  Door handles, taillamp housings, stainless mouldings are excellent and original to the car.  All glass is original, tinted and like new with no chips or cracks.  Complete engine bay is very clean, detailed and painted as new.  Trunk is clean as new with new mat and liners.  The spare is in place.  All seats are original leather but have been dyed black.  Headliner and carpet installed new.  Original door panels are dyed black.  Dash pad like new.  Dash bezels and all instruments in excellent original condition.  Armrest and handles like new.  Console, shifter, steering wheel original and look like new.  Radio is new Radio Sound unit with AM/FM and jacks for accessories.  This vehicle has had a complete ground up restoration with all components rebuilt or replaced as new.  It is like new in all areas with many performance up grades done.  Reserve on this car is less than it cost to built.  You can not built this unit for what you can buy it here.  We will help with freight arrangements if required.  Car is for sale locally so sale could end at any time.  Good luck and happy bidding.

Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage

Mon, 03 Jan 2011

The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.

Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman

Wed, 17 Nov 2010

Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!

Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday

Mon, 04 Oct 2010

Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
