My loss is your gain. I have too many vehicles and one of them has to go. I LOVE my little Comet but I need to make room in my garage for a new arrival. I've owned this car for about 5-6 years and had a blast with it. It turns heads wherever I go. It really is a little beauty. This car is in 95% condition, 5% from being a show car. It runs great and everything is in good working order, except the radio (original AM). The body is straight and it's never been in an accident. The odometer works and reads 42,000 but I have no idea if that's 142,000 or ? The original straight six motor has been replaced with a small block V-8 (302), so there is lots of power. The glass pack dual exhausts give it a nice throaty sound as well. It cruises nicely on the freeway and I wouldn't hesitate to take it anywhere. This car is ready to roll, anytime and anywhere! Good drive train, good suspension, good tires and brakes and all gauges and lights are functional. Power steering and brakes!
The pictures you see are straight out of the garage after four months sitting. I didn't even wash it. It has been repainted the original factory color (whatever you call that color). It really is beautiful in person. It has a rebuilt 302 V-8, B & M shifter and the upholstery has been redone as close to the original as possible. ALL trim is there (interior and exterior) and in good condition. The front bumper could stand to be re-chromed ( a couple of small blems is all). I'm not desperate for money so please don't make me a low ball offer. If I can't get my price I will just keep it another year and try again. I value this car at $12-15,000 so it's priced to sell. I have more than the high number invested in it, but I've also had several years of enjoyment. Now it's your turn. This is an original California car. After four months in the garage there is a drop or two of oil, that's all. Come and get it! I live in Lawndale, right off the 405. Very weird. I cannot find a way to remove where it says there are 6 cylinders. Trust me there are EIGHT! Also the body type is a COUPE. Again no way to change this, but that's eBay. The driver's side door lock is sticking, not working too well. |

What do you do with a fake Bugatti Veyron for $60k?
Tue, Mar 29 2016Replica cars are a challenging labor of love because builders spend countless hours recreating a vehicle that people immediately compare to the real thing. Perhaps, the person behind this Mercury Cougar-based Bugatti Veyron should look for another way to pass that time. The coupe is currently for sale on eBay Motors for $59,900. The builder deserves some credit because the fiberglass body looks acceptable in the photos from farther away. The car might even fool a few people from a distance. However, the devil is in the details, and the closer you look, the worse this gets. The side intakes are especially rough. The red interior is atrocious. It's essentially the Cougar's cabin but in an eye-searing shade accented with lots of fake carbon fiber. The seller's eBay Motors ad really tries to market the look, though. "You slide in to [sic] this extremely comfortable leather interior and you feel like your bank account just quadrupled in size," the listing says. Don't expect to win any top speed titles in this Veyron replica, either. Rather than a mid-mounted quad-turbo W16, a 3.0-liter V6 from a Mercury Sable sits at the front. Thanks to an upgraded intake and exhaust, the seller claims, "It doesn't sound like your grandmas [sic] Sable." We wish the seller the best of luck, but the asking price of nearly $60,000 is probably too optimistic. We would still think twice about buying it even after taking a zero off that figure, but at least this thing is fun to look at. Related Video:
Icon and Stealth EV are building an electric Derelict Mercury
Mon, May 14 2018Icon, a company known for its high-quality restomod vehicles, is building another Derelict, this one a 1949 Mercury coupe. While the fact Icon is building another one of its sleeper hot rods with patina isn't the most shocking, what's under the hood is. The company has teamed up with Stealth EV to turn this latest Derelict into an electric car. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The car was shown in the above Twitter post with video. The exterior is just what you'd expect from an Icon Derelict. It's solid but with a weathered finish. And even as the guy from Stealth EV approaches the car, it looks like it has a V8 under the hood. But as he explains, there's actually the two motor controllers and half of a Tesla battery pack under there. It's just that they've all been given some classy looking metal casings and mounted to look like a V8. Apparently the motors themselves are in the transmission tunnel. The Stealth EV rep says it uses a pair of AM Racing motors. Depending on which motor controllers the companies are using, those motors could produce as much as 700 horsepower. Power will go to the rear wheels and no transmission will be used, making it direct drive. It will have a limited-slip differential, and the whole car sits on an Art Morrison chassis with independent suspension. This actually isn't the first electric Icon, nor the first developed with Stealth EV. Before this, the companies created a totally awesome electric Volkswagen Thing. That little truck made much less power at 180 horses, but it was also a way smaller and lighter vehicle. Related Video:
Ford Recalling 70k Escape and Mariner Hybrids for cooling issue
Fri, 12 Sep 2014Ford is recalling about 70,209 examples of the 2005-2008 Ford Escape Hybrid and the 2006-2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid because the cooling pumps for their hybrid systems could fail.
According to the company's defect notice, it's possible for the original "Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) Pump" to wear out and fail, which would could cause the hybrid system to overheat. If this happens, the vehicle goes into a safety mode that takes away most or all of its power. However, braking and steering still operate normally. After cooling down, the affected models restart normally. The company says that it's not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.
Ford will begin repairing the vehicles in late October, and dealers will be installing improved, brushless pumps on the affected models at no charge to owners. If drivers had their pumps fail before this recall, they can contact Ford for a possible reimbursement.
