RELISTED DUE TO NON PAYING BUYER

Testing the waters with my 1964 Mercury Comet (Ford Falcon). It is a true California classic with original California "black" tags! Runs incredibly strong with absolutely zero rust. Would make a great daily driver, or take advantage of its West coast flair and customized it to taste. Turn key ready!

Mechanically, this car is very strong. Odometer reads 56,000 miles, and the odometer works, but no way to tell if this is 56,000 miles or 156,000 miles. However, the car is in impeccable mechanical condition, and drives like a 56,000 mile car. It's got the high-option 3.3 I6 engine mated to a three speed automatic transmission. The car starts right up and moves down the road true and straight. The car shifts, handles, and stops like new. One of the most fun cars I've ever driven! All the lights and gauges work on the car. The heater acts up every now, but blows plenty hot when working.

Cosmetically, the car is in good shape, but not perfect. The car spent its entire life up until 2 years ago in the San Francisco Bay Area, so there is absolutely no rust at all. The body is incredibly straight and solid with no dings or dents. Glass is perfect. HOWEVER, the paint IS a bit faded (sunburnt) in areas and it does have its fair share of chips and scrapes. A solid 15-20 footer. I suggest seeing this in person, as it is difficult for the paint imperfections to show up in photos. On the inside, the seat, carpet, and headliner were redone a while back. Nothing special, but very functional. One small crack in the dash, but otherwise very solid and original.

The car has 4 brand new matching tires put on last week (less than 5 miles on them!), along with a brand new battery, fresh oil change, and new air filter.

Overall, it's an awesome car with a great history. Sold as-is. Clean California title in hand. More than 800,000 Fords recalled for faulty Takata airbags

Thu, Jan 12 2017

The Basics: Ford is recalling about 816,000 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles built in the US for faulty passenger-side Takata airbags. The affected vehicles were all built in North America, with 654,695 recalled vehicles in the US and 161,174 vehicles in Canada. A wide variety of cars, trucks, and SUVs are affected. This is a planned expansion of an earlier recall. 2005-09 and 2012 Ford Mustang 2005-06 Ford GT 2006-09 and 2012 Ford Fusion 2007-09 Ford Ranger 2007-09 Ford Edge 2006-09 and 2012 Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln MKZ 2007-09 Lincoln MKX 2006-09 Mercury Milan The Problem: Like every other Takata recall, the problem rests with faulty airbags that can potentially expel shrapnel, injuring or killing vehicle occupants. Millions of vehicles from dozens of automakers are affected, so don't think that Ford is alone on this one. Injuries/Deaths: Ford stated in a press release that there have been no injuries or death linked to the vehicles in this recall. All in all, 11 deaths and 180 injuries across a variety of automakers have been linked to these Takata airbags. The fix: Ford will contact owners soon, and the affected vehicles will have their airbags replaced by a dealer at no additional charge. If you own one: Wait for contact from Ford, then head to the dealer to get a replacement. If you're wondering if your vehicle is affected, go to this Ford website and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The recall reference number is 17S01. Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Capri

Mon, Sep 19 2016

Ford has gotten a lot of use out of the Capri name in the United States. First, there was the Lincoln Capri in the 1950s, followed by the Ford Capri Mk1 (which was sold by Mercury dealers in the USA but never actually badged as a Mercury). Then came the 1979-1986 Mercury Capri, built on the very successful Fox Platform and essentially a clone of the Mustang. Finally, in 1991, the Australian Ford Capri came to the United States. Here is an example of this rare car that I spotted in a Northern California self-service yard not long ago. Mechanically speaking, the 1991-1994 Capri was a Mazda 323 under the skin, complete with a member of the same B-series engine family that went into such cars as the Miata and Ford Escort. So, for a few years in the early 1990s, car shoppers who wanted a sporty Mazda convertible could choose between a Miata and a Capri. The Capri had front-wheel-drive, but could be had with factory turbocharging. These cars were reliable and fun, but had a tough time competing with the Miata in the showroom battles. You'll see the occasional example now and then, but most of the 1991-1994 Capris have met the same fate that awaits this one. Related Video:

NHTSA investigating 725k Ford, Mercury vehicles for stalling issue

Mon, 25 Feb 2013

Owners of Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner, Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan models, listen up. According to a report on Automotive News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into these four vehicles totaling an estimated 725,000 units. The investigation appears to center around a malfunctioning throttle body on non-hybrid models of the 2005-2012 Escape and 2011-2012 Fusion. With Mercury dying off after the 2011 model year, this probe will also apply to the 2005 through 2011 Mariner and the 2011 Milan. There has been some discussion around the Escape stalling issue for some time now, but this investigation appears to be larger in scope than before.
Though not a recall yet, NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 123 complaints of stalling or surging vehicles, while Ford itself has logged 1,472 complaints. The investigation report, which is posted below, seems to indicate that a faulty circuit board for the throttle body could cause the vehicle to go into limp mode, which, according to NHTSA, could cause complaints of both stalling and surging.
