The Mercury Marauder The Mercury Marauder was a limited production model based on Ford's "Panther" platform. Think of combining the luxury and comfort of a Grand Marquis with the performance of a Police Interceptor. Known as a "Muscle Car Sedan", the engine is a special version of the 4.6L DOHC V8 that shared many components with the Mustang SVT Cobra of the same year. The engine produces 302HP and 318 ft-lb of torque. Upgraded suspension, limited slip differential and a lightweight aluminum driveshaft add to the vehicles performance and legend. The 18" aluminum alloy wheels, unique bumpers and grille and special lights round out the appearance features.

Show-Quality Paint and Performance I am a dealer of classic and collectible cars, and I purchased this Marauder at a Mecum auction in 2011 to use as my personal car. I went on to invest over $15,000 in parts, materials and labor to make this Marauder into a show-quality car that was both practical and jaw-dropping. I worked on this car with the intent to keep it for many years, and I have loved owning it and showing it for the last 3 years. When I bought the car, there was a dent on the front fender as well as the usual dings and scratches found on any 8-year old used car. I put the car in my restoration shop, and did a complete paint job. Dents and dings were pulled out as much as possible so that only a minimal amount of filler had to be used prior to primer. The entire car has been wet sanded and buffed to a high shine to minimize the "orange peel" effect found in factory paint jobs. The wheels had dings and scratches, and I had all four wheels repaired to new condition. I replaced the faded, dingy headlights and side lights with new replacement parts. Cross-drilled rotors and new brake pads were added. I installed a K&N cold air intake and filter, and did a complete tune-up including plugs, wires and ignition coils. The factory radio wasn't working, and I installed a double-din XTRONS DVD/CD/MP3/USB/SD unit with remote. I replaced the front lower control arms, bushings and ball joints. I also replaced the front struts and rear shocks. The tires are the correct BF Goodrich G-Force T/A's, the rear tires are the correct Marauder-specific size. I bought the tires new about 5,000 miles ago. Neither the cruise control or the overhead trip computer are functioning. I've put about 30,000 miles on this car in the three years I've owned it. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it across the country today, it is in excellent mechanical condition. I'm obviously going to lose out on the investment I made in this car, but it was worth the money and effort to have the nicest looking Marauder everywhere I went.

Ford recalls over 953,000 vehicles to replace Takata airbag inflators
Fri, Jan 4 2019DETROIT — Ford is recalling more than 953,000 vehicles worldwide to replace Takata passenger airbag inflators that can explode and hurl shrapnel. The move includes over 782,000 vehicles in the U.S. and is part of the largest series of recalls in U.S. history. Included are the 2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, the 2010 and 2011 Ford Ranger, the 2010 to 2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, the 2010 and 2011 Mercury Milan, and the 2010 to 2014 Ford Mustang. Some of the recalls may be limited to specific geographic areas of the U.S. Takata used the chemical ammonium nitrate to create an explosion to inflate airbags. But it can deteriorate over time due to heat and humidity and explode with too much force, blowing apart a metal canister designed to contain the explosion. At least 23 people have been killed worldwide and hundreds injured by the inflators. Ford says it doesn't know of any injuries in vehicles included in this recall. Dealers will replace the inflators. Ford will notify owners about the recall starting on Feb. 18, and the company has replacement parts available for dealers to order, said spokeswoman Monique Brentley. In previous Takata recalls, parts availability had been an issue. Owners can go to this Ford website and key in their vehicle identification number to see if their cars and SUVs are being recalled. The same information will be available soon at the NHTSA recall website. More than three years after the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration took over management of recalls involving Takata inflators, one third of the recalled inflators still have not been replaced, according to an annual report from the government and a court-appointed monitor. The report says 16.7 million faulty inflators out of 50 million under recall have yet to be replaced. And 10 million more inflators are scheduled to be recalled this month, including the Ford vehicles. Safety advocates said the completion rate should be far higher given the danger associated with the inflators. The recalls forced Takata of Japan to seek bankruptcy protection and sell most of its assets to pay for the fixes. The inflators grow more dangerous as they get older because ammonium nitrate deteriorates due to high humidity and cycles from hot temperatures to cold. The most dangerous inflators are in areas of the South along the Gulf of Mexico that have high humidity. Related Video:
Petrolicious shows Mercedes 280SL as architecture in motion
Wed, Jun 17 2015While still an absolute beauty today, the design of the pagoda-roof W113 Mercedes-Benz SL was revolutionary when it debuted. Moving away from the soft curves of the previous SL models, the all-new generation brought an upright, angular shape that was as much architectural as automotive. In the latest video from Petrolicious, owner and architect Daniel Monti expounds on the inspiration that he gets from his 1969 280SL's fantastic styling. The roof is the most famous design feature of this generation of SL. Look at the top from the front or back, and you can see a gentle, downward arc that evokes the look of a pagoda. That one styling element is also a fabulous counterpoint to a vehicle that is largely more angular than curvaceous. Petrolicious wonderfully illustrates how some of the SL's form-follows-function design aesthetic can be found in the architect's work in this video's heaping helping of mid-century modern goodness.
Ringbrothers shows off Coyote-powered 1968 Mercury Cougar
Thu, Feb 25 2021We'll openly admit that not every SEMA build is our cup of tea. But this? A tastefully resto-modded 1968 Mercury Cougar with a 460-horsepower Ford Mustang V8? Yeah, this is right in our wheelhouse. Sadly, there was no in-pwerson SEMA show in 2020, so we missed out on gems like this one. SEMA or no SEMA, the aftermarket carries on, and co-owners Jim and Mike Ring of Ringbrothers (get it?) saw no reason to let their time and effort go to waste. When they're not building wild customs (see: 1,100-horsepower 1972 AMC Javelin AMX) or more subtle showcases (such as this Cougar or their 1971 K5 Chevy Blazer build from 2018), the folks at Ringbrothers crank out factory reproduction parts, whether for old-fashioned restoration or modification purposes. While '60s muscle cars are recurring build subjects for the two, the Cougar was the first of its kind they tackled. Keeping it in the family, Ringbrothers sourced a Ford 5.0-liter "Coyote" V8 and a 10-Speed Automatic (lifted from an F-150 Raptor, incidentally) for the build. They didn't stop with the driveline, of course. The suspension was overhauled with a little help from DSE and a set of HRE Series C1 C103 Forged 3-Piece wheels were thrown over upgraded brakes. "We put our heart into each car we build, and this Cougar is no exception," Jim said. "The finished product is mild and classy, yet any enthusiast instantly knows it's not stock. I imagine this is what Mercury designers would have come up with if they were building the Cougar today." "While we couldn't bring the car to the SEMA Show, we hope it can be shown to the public soon," Mike said. "We had never done a Cougar before, so this was a fun build. I love working with new shapes and coming up with new ideas." There's plenty to appreciate about this Cougar apart from the mechanicals, too. The finish is Augusta Green Metallic (courtesy of BASF), which was a factory color in 1968. You may know it by another name: Highland Green. There are a few custom exterior touches, but they're quite subtle and styled to be period-correct. The interior was also restored and updated, and it's where you'll find the only thing we're not fond of: that big, fat truck shifter. Gearbox choices notwithstanding, it's a bit of an eyesore. But considering how gorgeous the rest is, we'll give it a pass. Related Video:
