Versatility: -Cleans up nice- a respectable looking vehicle with good bones and great lines, feels current- As far as the upgrade possibilities- the customizations I've seen online are sharp and slick! This car can accept a Duratec DOHC V6 or V8 SHO Engine- now seen on ebay for Cheap! Some guy fitted his Sable with a 32 Valve V8 SHO Taurus Engine It can be a good project sled to upgrade and customize- I've sourced and priced parts for this car from various parts vendors, and, for example, a used or rebuilt V4, V6 or V8 engine can be had for not as much as you'd think (if that's ever needed) But it's also a good Family car that Seats Five, is Safe, and has Practical Features- It has Austere Good Looks, Subtly Sophisticated in Black and has Room for your Life
History: -This Beautiful Sable has been garaged at night it's entire life, save for vacations and whatnot The Interior of the car is Excellent. This was my Mom's car and she babied it I've only had it since 2010, and the owner before her only put 16,000 on it Regular maintenance has always been done, and we've kept all of the service records I keep oiling and washing it and giving it love, but it's really not in use It's only been sitting in my garage for several months. My Mechanic has told me the seals need to be replaced to get compression back. Repairs as follows can be made at intervals, to get the car up and running immediately. The main issue is to replace the seals and keep the Engine from sputtering.
The Bad (your bargaining chips): Known Issues: 1. -Two bits of Rust (One at the Trunk, near the chrome trim, and one at the crest of the wheel well on the driver's side rear wheel) 2. -Needs a General Electronic Module (GEM - part around $100-250, Labor ? -and, according to the instructions, pretty easy) The GEM controls the Stereo AM/FM Radio/CD Player, Clock, Speedometer and Odometer, which are currently not working because of it- I have stopped driving it for this reason (regarding odometer reading- the GEM will reveal true Mileage) - but the instruments technically work- it's simply the GEM that needs to be replaced* 3. -Cruise Control not engaging* 4. -One Rear Window not opening* Rear Window Motor or some other issue may exist (unknown) The rest of the windows work fine *(*asterik indicates these may be GEM issues, and might be restored after GEM is functioning –{unknown}) 5. -Down the road, the front Brakes may need updating, and the drums are ugly, but functioning 6. -The compression is bad, needs Seals replaced, but it seems the engine is otherwise o.k., low miles
7. -Keep in mind this car isn't running right now, I've detached the battery! -------> Arrange for Towing to your home or garage, OR maybe I can give you a free one way tow with my Auto Club to within 50 miles of the 91205 Zip Code. - The insurance is still current and will be until the completion of sale. This is NOT a DMV Non-Operational, and has not been registered as such, as of
yet. The tags are good until April 2014. This is a functional vehicle that needs someone to invest a little green for a lot of car in return.
Let's Deal!
This has been an exceptional car We love the Sable, and All Ford Family Cars (we have another Ford), It’s just that we can get by without a second car It's a luxurious vehicle with a smooth, quiet ride and decent gas mileage, especially on the highway It's a solid piece of American Steel and is safe and practical It cleans up nice and has a nice get up and go on the freeway It's in the garage and will remain there until the right buyer comes along We're not desperate to sell, but we are open to offers, but no low-ballers, please Make a reasonable offer and we'll let it go for the right buyer

More than 800,000 Fords recalled for faulty Takata airbags
Thu, Jan 12 2017The Basics: Ford is recalling about 816,000 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles built in the US for faulty passenger-side Takata airbags. The affected vehicles were all built in North America, with 654,695 recalled vehicles in the US and 161,174 vehicles in Canada. A wide variety of cars, trucks, and SUVs are affected. This is a planned expansion of an earlier recall. 2005-09 and 2012 Ford Mustang 2005-06 Ford GT 2006-09 and 2012 Ford Fusion 2007-09 Ford Ranger 2007-09 Ford Edge 2006-09 and 2012 Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln MKZ 2007-09 Lincoln MKX 2006-09 Mercury Milan The Problem: Like every other Takata recall, the problem rests with faulty airbags that can potentially expel shrapnel, injuring or killing vehicle occupants. Millions of vehicles from dozens of automakers are affected, so don't think that Ford is alone on this one. Injuries/Deaths: Ford stated in a press release that there have been no injuries or death linked to the vehicles in this recall. All in all, 11 deaths and 180 injuries across a variety of automakers have been linked to these Takata airbags. The fix: Ford will contact owners soon, and the affected vehicles will have their airbags replaced by a dealer at no additional charge. If you own one: Wait for contact from Ford, then head to the dealer to get a replacement. If you're wondering if your vehicle is affected, go to this Ford website and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The recall reference number is 17S01. Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman
Wed, 17 Nov 2010Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!
Mercury Cougar from Bond film 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' is up for auction
Fri, Nov 20 2020To a James Bond fan, this is a very cool and important car. This 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7 up for auction by Bonhams was one of three used during the filming of 1969's "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," the one-and-done film starring George Lazenby that's a dark horse favorite among many Bond fans (this one included, there's a Japanese-market 'OHMSS' poster hanging behind me as I type this). However, this was not James Bond's car in the movie. He drove an Aston Martin DBS, including in the film's pre-titles sequence when he follows Tracy di Vicenzo driving her bright red Cougar. She would go on to rescue him with it in Switzerland (hence the skis), sacrificing its pretty red paint and body work in a demolition derby on ice that they use to shake Blofeld's Benz-driving goons. Later, after getting caught in a blizzard, they seek refuge in a barn -- a pivotal scene in the film and one where this particular Cougar was apparently used. ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE | Ice Car Race However, even without the Bond connection, this Cougar is a very cool car. It was one of only 127 in 1969 to be fitted with the top-of-the-line 428 CobraJet Ram Air V8 rated at 335 horsepower. Tracy had a serious muscle car. Bonham's doesn't seem to have thought to provide a Marti report, but I'm guessing the build of XR7, convertible and a color combo of matching red exterior and interior wasn't exactly a common one. Well, we know there were at least three. With skis and French number plates, too. As for the '69 Cougar itself, this was the only year it looked like this: it got a new body for '69 that would last two years, but the horizontal grille slats that extended over the headlight doors (so cool!) didn't carry over to 1970. It looked worse, and it could easily be argued that it was only downhill from here for the Cougar. The auction is set for December 16 and Bonhams is estimating a sale price of between $130,000 and $200,000. That certainly makes sense given the rarity of a CobraJet Cougar, the film connection and the complete restoration undertaken by the man who found it in a classified ad in the late 1980s. He originally just wanted it for the engine until he discovered the Bond connection. I actually saw this very car at the 50th Anniversary "Bond in Motion" exhibit at the Beaulieu Motor Museum in England back in 2013 (pictured below). There's also a model of the thing sitting next to me.
