I have for sale a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer in very good condition. We bought this SUV several years ago from our elderly neighbors that I believe were the original owners. This SUV is FULLY LOADED with every option that was available for this year, including dual power and heated seats, and a power sun roof. EVERYTHING works on this SUV as it should. I had new tires put on it 2 years ago, they still have well over 1/2 the tread life left, and I had new brakes and rotors put on just 3 months ago. SUV is ALL-WHEEL drive and runs and drives awesome. Only has 140,000 miles on it. (I have seen these Mountaineers get over 250,000 miles, these SUV’s were built to last) This beauty still has plenty of life left in her. I would not hesitate to drive this beauty cross country, as a matter of fact, we just returned from Florida in her and she handled the 2500 mile trip with ease. Comes with the heavy-duty hitch so you can pull your boat, trailer or whatever toys you might have. Interior is  clean, only a few small wear marks on the driver’s seat where the previous owners slid into and out of the seat causing it to wear. The exterior has normal wear and tear for a 12 year old SUV: a few nicks and rock chips and has a bit of surface rust over the passenger side wheel. (See picture) Other than that’s its very straight and has never been in an accident. My wife is no longer able to drive, so we have decided to sell her SUV, so this is a NO RESERVE auction. This SUV will sell. If you are a CASH buyer and are serious about purchasing this beautiful SUV call me today before someone beats you to it: 815-904-9447.

Kit Cat: Mercury Cougar makes perfect Bugatti Veyron substitute

Bugatti Veyron kit car - Click above for high-res image gallery
If you've got a pulse in your wrist and a snapping brain cell in your head, chances are you wouldn't mind parking a Bugatti Veyron in your garage. But for most mere mortals, scrounging up the cash for a physics-bending piece of 16-cylinder glory would require all sorts of unpalatable tasks. Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.
Oh, and $89,000.

NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.

NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder

Fri, 11 Jul 2014

There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.
