This beautiful all original Mercury was ordered by Mrs. Alva J. Turnbull and delivered to Francis Lincoln Mercury in Portland, Oregon on October 22, 1958. She traded in a 54 Hudson and paid for the remainder in cash. The car was ordered with many options such push button radio $100.00, power steering $107.50, padded dash $21.50, visual aid group $57.00, wheel covers $12.90, contrasting moulding area $10.80, merc-o-matic $225.80, heater-defroster $91.40, WSW rayon tires $41.00, courtesy light group $10.80, foam cushions $21.50, and the very rare aluminum projectile applique $10.80 which I haven't seen on any other Mercury on the internet. With title and license the grand total was $3,793.00 This car was owned and driven until the 80's when she sold it to the couple I purchased it from. The car comes with all the dealer paperwork, owners manual, warranty card, and battery card. The car runs and drives as new with 98% original twilight turquoise paint and interior. Chrome and stainless also as new. The interior is near mint and the trunk is very clean as well. This car is about 99% rust-free. It's had a recent tune-up and has been driven to Hot August Nights in Reno twice with zero issues and would be perfectly safe and reliable to drive anywhere. I truly believe this may be the best preserved original 58 hardtop especially considering it has all dealer paperwork and even has the original dealership license plate frame and Oregon plates! Please email with any questions on this fine motorcar.

Ford recalling 126,000 Fusions and Milans over wheel separation concern

Fri, 09 Dec 2011

Ford has announced a recall of certain Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan vehicles after an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A total of 128,616 2010 and 2011 models equipped with steel wheels may have been manufactured with wheel studs that could crack and split over time. If that happens, the vehicle may experience a wheel separation.
According to The Detroit News, the company is aware of a total of 30 wheel separation incidents, one of which occurred on the front of the vehicle. Even so, no injuries have been reported as a result of the defect.
The problem apparently stems from the fact that the mounting pads on the vehicles' steel wheels may have been faulty from the factory. In addition, the wheel mounting face on rear disc brakes may not have been installed properly. Ford will inspect the rear disc face and replace them as necessary. In addition, the company will replace all of the vehicle's wheel studs free of charge. Head to the NHTSA website for more information, and click past the jump to view the full recall notice.

Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday

Mon, 04 Oct 2010

Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.

NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.
