Rare 2003 Mercury Marauder sports muscle car. 300A model. I've owned it since it had 132k on the clock. It had a rebuilt title when I bought it. I was told that the car was involved in a light frontal crash with an object or another vehicle.I've had no problems registering it at the DMV or getting insurance for it. Only selling to fund part of my growing business. Title in hand, no liens, car is titled under my name.

Other than these issues and the ones listed in the car description (above) the car runs and drives well. Adult owned, never smoked in, our family have taken it on trips to Florida and Mobile without any issues, it's one of the most reliable cars we have had but it's not a show car either, it would be a great restoration project for someone with the interest.

There were 11k units made since 03-04 and the car never got any good publicity therefore most people wrongly believe they came with an interceptor engine. The truth is that these cars came with practically a Mach 1 engine borrowed from the Mustang Mach 1(not the Cobra as many mistakenly believe) of the same year, this is a 32-valve SOHC aluminum-block V-8 producing over 302 horsepower at 5750 rpm, and 318 pound-feet of torque at 4250 RPM. The engines found in the regular Crown Vic police interceptor:
265HP, 265 ft-lbs @ 4000 rpm

Price is negotiable, but please abstain from "low-balling". I've been honest about the condition of the car. Consider the current deals of other Crown Vics with similar mileage and condition and you'll see that I've priced my Marauder at a decent point.

Pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Absolutely no rust. The underside is extremely clean. Car has been registered in TN and then AL, since now.
  • New Motorcraft SP-433 Iridium spark plugs properly torqued at 10lbs/ft. Installed @ 137287 miles.
  • New MSD coil packs @ 137287 miles.
  • Engine and transmission in awesome shape, no oil leaks, no rust, a very clean engine! Steam cleaned at least 3 times a year.
  • Oil and filter changed at 131850 miles (already due to an oil change)
  • Cleaned throttle body at 131850 miles
  • New Serpentine Belt at 135k miles
  • New Gates automatic belt tensioner 132k miles (estimated)
  • New PCV valve (a year old)
  • New Battery (a year old)
  • Refurbished LCM module (in 2013)
  • New rotors and ceramic brake pads all around with receipts. (8+ months ago) however a couple brake pads may need replacing on the rear as it's squeaking, but the car stops on a dime thanks to its ceramic brake pads.
  • No transmission or engine leaks.
  • Cold AC/heat (blend door needs servicing though)
  • Nice interior, seats are in great shape. There's one inch tear on the driver's side.
  • Headliner looks brand new.
  • Good body, not perfect though, has a few dings and scratches here and there and the paint is not as shiny on some areas such as rood, hood and trunk, but still shines with a good wax job.
  • Receipts for parts, repairs and service to the car since my time of ownership. I can email you a pic of this if you'd like to see them.

Cons:

  • Defrost doesn't work (quite probably is the switch as it's a common item to fail)
  • Needs a new seat belt buckle (works though, but you have to press the button first and then insert the belt in)
  • Missing fog lights (wiring is present though)
  • Radio works but CD gets stuck
  • Could use of control arm bushings (I have a new Raybestos control arm assembly, never installed, with bushings and receipts of purchase!)
  • May need blend door repaired, but AC and heat work great!
  • Has a small (1 inch) spider crack on the windshield
  • One or two rear rims are not fully round
  • Driver side window won't roll down

Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis LS

Sat, Jan 21 2023

Ford's now-defunct Mercury Division first began using the Marquis name in 1967, on a sporty full-size hardtop based on the Ford LTD, then began offering the Grand Marquis beginning in the 1979 model year. These big, boxy luxury sedans were replaced by big, curvy luxury sedans (on the same platform) starting with the 1992 model year, so today's Junkyard Gem is one of the very last squared-off Grand Marquises ever built. The 1991 Grand Marquis (or "Grandma Keith," as many refer to it today) looks nearly identical to its 1979 predecessor at a glance, just as the 2011 model doesn't differ much from the 1992 model. Ford saw no reason to follow short-lived fashion trends with its simple, sturdy rear-wheel-drive sedan. Only two Grand Marquis trim levels were available for 1991: the base GS and the (somewhat) upscale LS. The former listed at $18,741 and the latter at $19,241, which comes to about $41,494 and $42,601, respectively, in inflated 2022 dollars). This interior would have seemed comfortingly familiar to a 1968 (or even 1958) Mercury owner time-traveling to 1991.  This is the optional "full grain leather seating surface," which cost an extra $489 (about $1,083 today). Dig those opera lights! Air conditioning was standard equipment in the 1991 Grand Marquis and its wagon counterpart, the Colony Park. The engine is the good old pushrod 5.0-liter Windsor V8, which would be replaced by a far more modern 4.6-liter SOHC mill in the '92 Grand Marquis. This engine was rated at 180 horsepower. A four-speed automatic was the only transmission available. The early 1990s ended up being the last gasp for padded vinyl roofs being considered mainstream equipment on new Detroit cars; this one was called the "Formal Coach" roof and cost an additional 725 bucks ($1,605 now). Such roofs were still available on a few cars later in the decade, but their time had passed. Why would such a clean Grandma Keith end up in a place like this? That's easy: it got T-boned directly into the right front wheel, mangling the body and bending up the suspension. This damage might have been worth fixing when the car was five years old, but it's a write-off when it happens to a 31-year-old Ford Panther. 1991 Mercury Grand Marquis Commercial - Savings Ad The granddaddy of them all, and on sale in South Texas! NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder

Fri, 11 Jul 2014

There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.

Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday

Mon, 04 Oct 2010

Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
