You are bidding on a 1995 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Special Edition.  Car rides and drives very smooth.  A V-8 engine provides excellent power and stability when driving but the Cougar does  gets surprisingly good gas mileage for a V-8 engine.  With an average of 22-26 miles per gallon, I can attest this vehicle does get closer (if not above) to the higher end of this range.

Does come equipped with power windows, coded keyless entry, power locks,  six way adjustable power seats with controllable lumbar air support.  Has a CD player installed but missing faceplate.  It was stolen by some kids.  Do not know the make of the cd player but was not factory issued.  Leather seats but cracked from sun exposer.   Working A/C and heat.  Automatic transmission, good size trunk space.  (Code will be provided for the winner of this auction and code can be customized to new owner's specifications.)

The car was purchased from an elderly couple who lived on a farm outside of Willmar, Minnesota.  The lady rarely drove it when it was purchased by myself.  I hate to part with this car because I do love it so but I have recently purchased another vehicle and there is not room.

Known issues included are:
Car was in an accident and was struck in the driver's side front light/bumper area.  The vehicle was parked and not in operation when this happened.   Did do some scratch and dent damage (not noticeable until up closer to the vehicle) u and although the light cover was taken off,  both sets of the headlights still are functional.  And blinkers are operational as well.
Car could use a new thermostat soon.
Tires are okay but newer ones should be considered at some point.
Inside the switch to turn the headlights on and off has fallen off.  I do have the main knob but the smaller inner part of the knob fell out so the knob won't stay on unless a small fitting or replacement part can be ordered.
Check engine light is on.   Was on since I bought the car and was told it was just a electrical malfunction (not serious but common electrical problem)
CD player needs the faceplate to access working cd player/am/fm radio.   All speakers are still in working condition
Just needs a little TLC.  No known transmission or engine problems.   It's very stable and runs and drives very nicely.

I will require a $200 non-refundable deposit within three working business days and full payment within a week thereafter.  The winner of this great car must make arrangements to pick it up from Faribault, Minnesota no later than two weeks after the vehicle is paid for.  Faribault, Minnesota is located about an hour south of the Twin Cities metropolitan area.  (Minneapolis, MN/St. Paul, MN)   Address and directions will be provided to the winner.  Car can be driven to the winner's location if desired.

I will accept Paypal, cashier's check, money order or personal check.   NOTE:  Additional time is required if paying by personal check for the check to clear successfully.
Cash will also be accepted in person but deposit must not be paid in cash but by other payment mentioned above.

Overall I very good car.  A few tweaks will make it an exceptional vehicle.
LOW RESERVE

Thank you and good luck!

This Mercury Cyclone is an American Muscle Car in Norway

Tue, Oct 27 2015

The picturesque Norwegian countryside certainly doesn't seem like the natural stomping grounds for a 1969 Mercury Cyclone, but owner Alexander Brevik makes the odd combo look like an ideal match. Even with the beautiful surroundings, Brevik sees no need to enjoy the scenery; he'd much rather just be driving this vintage muscle car. Take a ride with him in the latest clip from Petrolicious. Like many of us, Brevik's automotive obsession started at childhood, and today he has amassed a multitude of projects to wrench on. While he loves working on all of these cars, we all need a break sometimes, and that's what the Cyclone is for. Even when the rest of his collection isn't running, this orange beauty is always ready to go. Brevik may not pay much attention to the landscape, but Petrolicious makes the muscle car look fantastic in the Norwegian woods nonetheless. With its rumbling V8 engine and three-speed manual, this Cyclone turns out to be a perfect cruising companion in the Land of the Midnight Sun. And if you just can't get enough of classic muscle cars and the people who love them, check out our video coverage of the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit down below. Related Video:

NHTSA investigating 500k Ford and Mercury cars for lighting failures

Mon, Apr 6 2015

The Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis might be long gone as new models in showrooms, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration might check them out yet again for a potential problem. At the urging of North Carolina Consumers Council, the agency may open another investigation into the front lighting control module on vehicles from the 2003-2005 model years, and NHTSA estimates the issue could affect 517,945 vehicles. If the module stops working, it can cause a complete failure of all forward lighting, including the headlights. NHTSA previously investigated the issue in 2008 and 2009 but found no need for a recall, according to Bloomberg. Ford also extended the warranty on the part to 15 years or 250,000 miles. To prompt this new request, the North Carolina Consumers Council received a letter from a woman experiencing the module's failure. Upon further investigation, the council found 604 complaints of this problem on NHTSA's website, including seven crashes. Furthermore, the group has alleged that dealers told customers that the parts to perform the replacement weren't available, despite the extended warranty. According to the government agency, "A defect petition has been opened to evaluate the issue and make a grant or deny decision." Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker tells Autoblog via email, "We will cooperate with NHTSA, as we always do." You can read the council's complete letter to the Feds in PDF format, here. INVESTIGATION Subject : Loss of headlamp/exterior lighting Date Investigation Opened: APR 01, 2015 Date Investigation Closed: Open NHTSA Action Number: DP15002 Component(s): EXTERIOR LIGHTING All Products Associated with this Investigation Vehicle Make Model Model Year(s) FORD CROWN VICTORIA 2003-2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS 2003-2005 Details Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company SUMMARY: The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received a petition from the North Carolina Consumers Council, Inc. requesting a defect investigation of an alleged defect condition resulting in headlight and/or exterior lighting failure on 2003-2005 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles. The petition letter is attached for review. The petitioner alleges a defect in the lighting control module that powers the headlights which can result in the loss of vehicle headlights and/or all exterior lighting while driving. ODI has previously investigated this issue under PE08-066 which was closed without a defect finding.

NHTSA advances investigation of Ford Crown Victoria headlights

Sat, Aug 15 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a preliminary evaluation into reports of suddenly failing headlights on 517,945 examples of the 2003-2005 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis. The government started looking into this problem in April when the North Carolina Consumers Council filed a defect petition with the agency. Now, the inquiry has moved to the next step. According to NHTSA's documentation (as a PDF), it examined its own database and worked with Ford to come up with a total of 3,609 complaints of the front lighting control module suddenly failing. When this happens, drivers lose the low-beam headlights, but the high-beams can be used by holding the stalk. Sometimes turning the switch off and on fixes the issue. Additionally, there are 15 allegations of crashes, and one reported shoulder injury. NHTSA's preliminary evaluations "evaluate the scope, frequency, and consequence of the alleged defect" and don't necessarily lead to a recall. NHTSA looked into this problem once before in 2008 and 2009 and decided that a recall wasn't necessary. Ford also extended the warranty on the front lighting control module for these vehicles. INVESTIGATION Subject : Loss of headlights Date Investigation Opened: AUG 10, 2015 Date Investigation Closed: Open NHTSA Action Number: PE15028 Component(s): EXTERIOR LIGHTING All Products Associated with this Investigation Vehicle Make Model Model Year(s) FORD CROWN VICTORIA 2003-2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS 2003-2005 Details Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company SUMMARY: After receiving a defect petition (DP15002) concerning the loss of headlights and other exterior lighting in model year (MY) 2003-2005 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) complaints received from consumers and identified a total of 605 reports (for all submission dates) alleging headlight failure. The complaints indicate failures of both low beam headlights typically while driving, a defect condition that was evaluated under a prior ODI investigation (PE08066). Most consumer VOQs indicate that the headlights failed suddenly and without warning leaving the driver with no forward lighting, however some report the headlights flickered or dimmed prior to turning off. In some cases drivers were able to turn the headlights back on after a period of time while others reported the headlights would not come back on at all.
