Well, after storing my 1979 Cougar in my dry garage for the last 26 years,I've finally figured that I'm never going to do anything with it.Now I want it to go to another good home.I bought this car 26 years ago from a minister that towed it to this area from Las Vegas Nevada. It's NEVER been driven in snow or salted roads. This car is 100%rust free.Has 351 Windsor and column shift automatic trans. The car is white with a white padded roof.Has gray velour interior.Has glass mirrored moon roof, power seat, power windows,am/fm radio, air conditioning.Has factory deluxe wheels. All chrome and paint is just about perfect. Now the bad part.....when I got the car,the engine was noisy.I pulled the engine out and dis-assembled it.The oil pump had gone bad probably due to not having frequent enough oil changes. The engine needs to be rebuilt.I also have a another used 351 Windsor that needs a timing chain installed that goes with the car.I pushed the car out of my garage just this past week. This is a great rust -free car to put a good engine in.About 20 yrs ago,I borrowed the radiator from this car for my daily driver.Afterwards,I bought a new radiator from NAPA and put it in the trunk. It's still there. Also,in 1993,I bought the four original centers for the wheels from our Local Ford dealer. They're still in the plastic bags on the rear seat. When I bought this car,the last owner had just installed new brake pads, brake shoes, master cyl, complete exhaust system, alternator, voltage regulator.
Been sitting for 26 yrs. I checked NADA classic car price.Low retail is $3475.00 Average retail is $6,075.00 and high retail is $9,990.00 So if you have a good engine,or want to rebuild one that goes with the car, you'll have a real nice cruiser for cheap money. This car is a true " barn find " I can accept cash only when this car is picked up.Any shipping is the responsibility of the buyer.Hook up your car trailer and come get it.This is a nice area to take a ride.

Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage
Mon, 03 Jan 2011The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.

Mercury rises around sexy Cougar pack
Sat, May 30 2015With a slightly larger body and a more luxurious interior, the Mercury Cougar doesn't carry quite as much cachet among pony car enthusiasts as the venerable Ford Mustang. But don't try to make that argument around Cougar super-fan Mike Brown. Since starting his Cougar collecting in 1988, Brown has become an absolute expert on the model, and he claims to have owned 400 of the Mercury pony cars in that time. Ten of them are in his collection today, not to mention a heap of spare parts in the garage. Check out some of the rarer members of Brown's fleet and allow him to tell you about them in this interesting interview from Electric Federal.
Automakers tussle over owners of 'orphan' makes
Thu, 10 May 2012When General Motors put down several of its brands in recent years, it also let loose thousands of brand-loyal customers who will eventually need another car.
R.L. Polk Associates estimates there are more than 18 million cars from 16 discontinued makes on the road today. Those "orphan owners" have sales-hungry competitors seeing dollar signs. GM is offering Saturn owners $1,000 cash toward a Chevy Cruze, Cadillac CTS or a GMC Acadia. Ford is giving its Mercury lease customers a chance to get out of their contracts with no early-termination penalty and offering to waive six remaining payments if they drive off in a Ford or Lincoln.
Edmunds.com research shows the efforts are paying off somewhat for GM, with 39 percent of Pontiac owners, 37 percent of Hummer owners and 31 percent of Saturn owners taking delivery of another GM-branded vehicle. But that leaves as much as 69 percent of owners going elsewhere. Ford, Honda and Toyota seem to be attracting many former GM owners.
