A true time capsule- this 1972 Mercury Cougar is completely unrestored and in running condition! Included in the sale is all of the original paperwork. This means the bill of sale, original build sheet, owner's manual, several service records, an appraisal, and several other documents. This car was purchased new in Rhode Island and immediately sent to Utah where it never saw snow and only drove 64,000 miles!! And make no mistake- these are original miles. Accident free, this car was driven sparingly over its lifetime and always garaged when not in use. It is as close to new condition that you can get, both mechanically and cosmetically. On it's purchase date in 1972 an anti-rust coating was sprayed on the undercarriage to keep it totally clean- and you can tell. The frame is in near-perfect condition with no rust. Paint is excellent, with only a few marks on the drivers' door and trunk. The weather stripping is in beautiful condition and there are no leaks. Hood, trunk, and doors all close seamlessly. All chrome and glass is immaculate with no surface marks. The black leather seats show almost no signs of wear. The carpet follows suit, as original Cougar mats have been used since its purchase. The original engine is still intact and in excellent condition. The car starts up nicely and only has a few minor fluid leaks. Aside from that the 351 Cleveland V-8 is in close to new condition. Mechanics are virtually all original, except for an OEM replacement exhaust system.

Starting up this nostalgic vehicle is like getting into a time machine. The driver is instantly transported back to a Mercury dealer in 1972- driving the car off the lot for the first time. All components are factory original and in like-new condition. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime find. Don't let it get away!

Ford recalls Five Hundred, Mercury Montego sedans over fuel tank woes

Mon, 18 Jul 2011

Ford has announced through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that it is recalling nearly 3,000 examples of its Five Hundred and Mercury Montego (pictured) sedans from the 2007 model year.
The action, which affects 2,945 vehicles, is due to potentially defective welds between the filler neck and the fuel tank, a condition that could result in a fuel leak or the smell of gasoline reaching the occupants. In the worst-case scenario, a leak could cause a fire. Cars with the affected fuel tank problem could see an illuminated dashboard warning light as a result of the evaporative emissions leak being detected.
Ford will inspect and replace the fuel tank at no cost to owners (those who have already had the procedure done at-cost can apply for reimbursement), and the Dearborn automaker will begin notifying Five Hundred and Montego owners beginning August 15. Check out the official NHTSA press release after the jump for further details.

NHTSA closes rollaway investigation into 1.56M Ford SUVs

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

It's taken four years of study, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has finally closed the books on its investigation into rollaway accusations surrounding 1.56-million Ford SUV models.
The probe, which centered on the 2002-2005 Ford Explorer, 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003-2005 Lincoln Aviator, ends without the federal agency calling for a recall. According to The Detroit News, the investigation was closed due to a "low number of complaints" - NHTSA documented 180 such complaints that resulted in 14 crashes and six minor injuries, but the number of incidents have been slowing. The suspected defect rate for the trucks' automatic transmissions was found to be 4.4 per 100,000 units, and the brake-shift interlock mechanism failure rate was judged to be even lower at 3.4 per 100k.

Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman

Wed, 17 Nov 2010

Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!
