1968 Mercury Cougar 302 V8 4 speed manual. I have owned this car since 2011, I have the clean clear Pennsylvania title in my name and ready for immediate transfer. The odometer is a 5 digit odometer and reads 35xxx, To the best of my knowledge actual mileage it is 135xxx, I purchased the cougar from a gentleman in Ohio. He had the car built in the early 1990's by his good friend who worked as a local racing engine builder(in Ohio). So the 302 with a holley 4 barrel carb and weiand intake manifold under the hood is very strong good running engine. Sorry I don't know the engine specs but it runs great, and always starts right up. The 4.10 gears in the rear and the 4 speed manual transmission make for a fun drive. Flowmaster mufflers, Hedman headers, Accel coil and distributer. Mercury cougar embossed valve covers. The previous owner had a new flywheel, clutch, starter installed and had the gear box redone(I am pretty sure it is a hurst transmission) All this was done in 2007. The car has new Magnum 500 wheels with the Mercury man center caps and new tires on the car. Rear are 16" and fronts 15". The cars sequential turn signals in the rear work great with updated electronics recently installed. The hidden headlamp doors also work excellent. In 2012 a new aluminum radiator and edelbrock water pump were installed on the car. The car looks good, has small surface rust bubbles on the front of the left fender, small bubble on exterior passenger door, and on the rear deck lid real small spots(They are the exact same size as when I bought the car in 2011, never changed at all) Some small paint peeling on the quarter panel as well(never changed size or worsened since I purchased he car) There was a small aftermarket spoiler on the deck lid when I got the car and I took it off(wanted the original look), there is a photo of the black rubber plugs I have used to block the small mounting holes. The all black interior is in excellent condition. original rear seat, fronts were recovered in the early 90's when the car was rebuilt. The cougar sports deluxe door trim panels. Also have the cougar floor mats in the car I have found them as reproductions and they look great. Heater works, Car originally had ac, but there is no compressor. Kenwood cd player that is I pod ready along with alpine speakers front and rear in the car, I never turn the radio on, I personally enjoy the sound of the 302 under the hood!! The vinyl top is in excellent condition, the paint is average for a car that was painted in the early 1990's, pretty straight with no dents or dings this is a great 10 footer. Paint shines nice, but not a high end paint job. This is a solid great running Mercury Cougar! I can supply you with any additional photos you may need. I have shop manuals for the car and a reproduction owners manual. She is a great looking car and runs great. Stored under cover in a heated garage. The Cougar is ready to drive with no work needed Wouldn't take much to make a perfect show car, right now it is a very nice driver!! It is a real head turner. No warranty expressed or implied, I personally recommend seeing the car in person, but certainly not mandatory. I can help with loading etc. $500.00 dollar non refundable deposit due within 24 hours of auction end. Car is located in Clarion Pennsylvania, 16214. LOW RESERVE!! As you can tell in the photographs, this car had minimal miles put on it since the rebuild. It was driven just enough to maintain it properly, she never sat long periods of time and was always maintained properly when in heated winter storage.

Curtain officially comes down on Mercury as dealers remove signage
Mon, 03 Jan 2011The process of shutting down the Mercury is complete. Ford officially made the decision to close its mid-level brand in June of 2010. In the months that followed, Ford offered its dealers money to stop selling the cars, with production shutting down in September. The last Mercury, a Mariner, rolled off the assembly line in the beginning of October and former spokesperson Jill Wagner said her good-byes to both the car and her job. Now the last piece of the brand has come down as dealers are removing any and all Mercury signage from their lots.

Junkyard Gem: 1981 Mercury Cougar XR-7
Sun, May 24 2020The story of the Mercury Cougar involves more plot twists and unexpected digressions than that of just about any other Detroit car, with successive Cougar generations based on the Ford Mustang (1967-1973), the Ford Torino and/or Thunderbird (1974-1979), various Fox Fords including the Thunderbird (1980-1988), the MN12 Thunderbird/Lincoln Mark VIII (1989-1997), and the Ford Mondeo (1999-2002). There were wagon and sedan Cougars for brief periods, just to confuse everybody, and the rakish XR-7 Cougars sometimes lived on different platforms from their ordinary non-XR-7 counterparts. I think the Late Malaise Era Fox XR-7s are among the most interesting of the bunch, so I was quite excited to spot this tan-over-gold '81 in a Denver yard. I tried to count the number of screaming-cat badges on and in this car and gave up once I hit a dozen. The steering wheel, door panels, C pillars, center console, and — of course — the hood ornament all boast snarling felines. Earlier Cougars had emblems showing full side views of stalking catamounts, but the Cougar logo for the 1980s showed just the head. This car got the optional center console, which I hear is quite a rarity. You had to pay $174 extra (that's around $513 in 2020 dollars) for an AM/FM/cassette audio system in the '81 Cougar, but at least the air conditioning was standard equipment. Believe it or not, thieves used to steal these radios. Kumpf Lincoln-Mercury still exists in Englewood (as Landmark Lincoln), and the yard that now houses this car can be found just 15 miles up Broadway on the north side of Denver. The padded landau roof hasn't fared so well beneath the fierce Colorado sun, but overall this car seems very solid. Sadly, only the Mustangs and (once in a long while) Fairmonts get much love from the Fox Ford crowd these days. Three Mercury "wire wheel" hubcaps and one from a Lincoln. The base engine in the 1981 XR-7 was the "Thriftmaster" 200-cubic-inch (3.3-liter) straight-six, but very few XR-7 buyers would have refrained from checking the box for one of the two optional Windsor V8s. I can't tell if we're looking at the 255-cubic-inch (4.2-liter) version or the 302-cubic-inch (5.0-liter) one here, but real-world drivers might not have noticed the difference between the 120-horse 255 and the 130-horse 302, anyway. The non-XR-7 Fox Cougars had five-speed manual transmissions as base equipment (which nobody wanted), but all 1981 XR-7s had automatics.
What do you do with a fake Bugatti Veyron for $60k?
Tue, Mar 29 2016Replica cars are a challenging labor of love because builders spend countless hours recreating a vehicle that people immediately compare to the real thing. Perhaps, the person behind this Mercury Cougar-based Bugatti Veyron should look for another way to pass that time. The coupe is currently for sale on eBay Motors for $59,900. The builder deserves some credit because the fiberglass body looks acceptable in the photos from farther away. The car might even fool a few people from a distance. However, the devil is in the details, and the closer you look, the worse this gets. The side intakes are especially rough. The red interior is atrocious. It's essentially the Cougar's cabin but in an eye-searing shade accented with lots of fake carbon fiber. The seller's eBay Motors ad really tries to market the look, though. "You slide in to [sic] this extremely comfortable leather interior and you feel like your bank account just quadrupled in size," the listing says. Don't expect to win any top speed titles in this Veyron replica, either. Rather than a mid-mounted quad-turbo W16, a 3.0-liter V6 from a Mercury Sable sits at the front. Thanks to an upgraded intake and exhaust, the seller claims, "It doesn't sound like your grandmas [sic] Sable." We wish the seller the best of luck, but the asking price of nearly $60,000 is probably too optimistic. We would still think twice about buying it even after taking a zero off that figure, but at least this thing is fun to look at. Related Video:
