Up for auction is my 1967 Cougar GT 390 with original date code matching (7D20) 390 engine and C6 automatic transmission and 9" 3.00 conventional rear axle.  I originally bought this car at auction with the idea of restoring it but other projects (mostly house projects) call and I need to let this go to a home that will appreciate it and hopefully be able to give it the restoration it deserves.  The car was originally shipped to Portland, Oregon and the paperwork I have shows the previous owner in Oregon, so I'd say the car has likely spent its "life" in the Northwest.  The car starts and runs great.  Odometer indicates 20322 miles though I'm sure it's more likely 120322 miles.  I've driven it just a little since acquiring it about 2 years ago. I had it out on the highway to take it about 20 miles away to a local Cougar club show this summer.  The exhaust is solid and it shifts good.  The transmission was rebuilt in 2005.  It it sits for awhile it will seep out transmission fluid.  The steering is on the loose side, though, I haven't tried adjusting the steering gear box yet.  Power front disk brakes work okay.  Wiring has been changed in places for a past stereo system and other accessories.   I'd recommend either a new harness or replacing the sections that need it under the dash and console.  Lights and sequential turn signals work, but vacuum headlights don't raise and lower.  Carlite glass in all windows except windshield are original. clean and no cracks.  Windshield has been replaced in the past and is in good condition with no cracks.  Front floor pans have been replaced and are solid, torque box is solid, inner fender panels have no rust in the usual place where they overlap.  Inside of trunk is solid with no rust in the typical places around the rear spring mounts.  Some bubbles and rust through in lower quarter panels, and lower front of driver's door and along entire lower portion of passenger door.  Front fenders have no rust.  Bumpers and trim are straight and look very nice. Front valence has a dent where the front license plate goes that would be easy to straighten.  Two small rust areas under front lip of hood that wouldn't take much to repair.  Some rust around lower corners of rear windows.  Cowl leaks thru vent on driver's side if left outside in the rain.  Lower chrome trim on the passenger side rear quarter window looks good but has come loose at the front and needs to be re-attached.  Tires look nearly new with deep tread and no cracking.  Interior is original Ivy Gold that has been unprofessionally dyed black that came out more dark grey and is peeling in places.  Plan on re-dying interior panels and new upholstery for seats and a new headliner.  Console base is solid with no cracks or breakage.  Front pad around radio area was cut and needs replaced.  I have the original AM radio.  Dash pad has no cracks and is serviceable but is a bit wavy.  One of the defrost ducts was removed but I have it to re-install.  Edelbrock carburetor works great.  I don't have the original holley carb or air cleaner.  Chrome Ford Motorsport valve covers replace the original ones.  See photo of Marti Report to see all that originally came with this car.  It was originally Lime Frost Green but has since been painted yellow.  Paint is presentable but could use a repaint which would need to be done anyway after doing some of the outer body rust repairs.  Original steering wheel is missing.  Car appears to have at one time been in a light front end collision since front grill is for a 1968 Cougar and left front inner fender panel looks to have been straightened at the front.  Radiator support and all else on the inner structure look straight.

I try to describe everything I can so you'll have no surprises if you purchase this classic and hard to find GT Cougar.  It is a great car to start a relatively straight forward restoration or it could be a driver now, though I'd want to get the steering tightened up and fix the cowl leak if it would sit outside.  Please look at all the pictures and if you have any questions, please ask before bidding.  If you wish to see the car in person or have it inspected, please send me a message with your phone number and I'll call you so we can set up a time to meet.  All inspections are to be done before the close of the Auction.  John at Cascade Classics in Sumner, who is an expert on Cougars, can do a pre-buy inspection for $75.  I can put you in contact with him if you're interested.  Shipping is the buyer's responsibility, but I will be willing to deliver the car to a shipping facility within 30 miles of Seattle, WA.  Car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early.  Thank you and good luck bidding!

Is this '47 Chevrolet a rat rod or a sports car?

Sun, May 22 2016

These days there are plenty of vehicles that blur the conventional automotive class structures. For instance, was the Honda Crosstour a wagon or an SUV? And what exactly was the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet? Regardless, those line-blurring cars (or trucks) are out there, and though this one didn't roll off a production line, it's still quite the automotive head-scratcher. Hailing from Missouri, this epic creation is one part mad science experiment, one part 1947 Chevrolet pickup, and one part '95 Mercury Cougar. Add it all up and you get an awesome truck-sports-car hybrid, complete with an outrageous wing and a V8 to boot. And interestingly enough, it's up for sale . RELATED: Check out this Wild-Styled Lamborghini Rat Rod So how does it all come together? According to the listing, the Chevrolet truck cab (which had previously been chopped) was sanded down to bare metal and given a thorough shellacking of clear coat. It was then melded together with the front end of a 1995 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, and set low to the ground on Bilstein suspension drop spindles. Stance achieved. But instead of fielding an engine from either of those pickups, it pulls its heart from a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV—a big 5.3-liter V8 heart, that is. It comes backed-up to a GM Turbo 400 automatic transmission. Towards the rear however is where things get really interesting. A Copper Pearl coated tube frame chassis both attaches the rear independent suspension (a la Mercury Cougar) to the racy spoiler, as well as secures the rat rod's rear-mounted radiator, fan, and fuel tank. I'm not quite sure why, but it just looks glorious. RELATED: Reports Say Mid-Engine Corvette Will Arrive in 2018 Inside the vintage cab, the Chevrolet furthers its racing proclivities (it's said to have won burnout and auto-cross events) with a pair of harnessed racing seats, a drift brake, a detachable steering wheel, and a tachometer with oil and temperature gauges, but oddly no speedometer. The shifter is a crescent wrench. And its shift boot? That's a Crown Royal Purple bag. All in all, this grin-worthy Frankenstein creation tallies up bits and pieces from four different vehicles (five if you include the Camaro wheels), which make it truly a mash-up of epic proportions. Internet, what do you think? Related Video: This article by Zach Doell originally appeared on Boldride. New Forza 6 car pack will let you race the Pontiac Aztek

Fri, Jan 29 2016

Just in time for this weekend's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, the new Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6 on the Xbox One lets you slip into the driver's seat of last year's winner. If you want to take something much weirder for a spin, the collection also includes a 2005 Pontiac Aztek. The download is available now for $6.99. The Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona was in a four-car battle early in last year's race, but it eventually was victorious. Forza Motorsport 6 also challenges drivers who download the car to a new Rivals event around Daytona, and the fastest people could win Alpinestars prizes. If you're nostalgic for a classic Daytona racecar, this pack includes Mercury #15 Whistler Radar Cougar XR-7. The V8-powered beast won the IMSA GTO class in the 24-hour event in 1990. It should be fun around the game's longer road courses like Road Atlanta. This collection also has an eclectic mix of vehicles that aren't racecars. The controversial Aztek and the equally-controversial 1996 Subaru SVX take their places beside a lineup that offers drivers three eras of performance cars – a 1967 Sunbeam Tiger, 1974 Toyota Corolla SR5, and 1992 Alfa Romeo Milano Quadrifoglio Verde. The video below shows all of them in action. Race to the Finish Line with the Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6 By Xbox Wire Staff posted on January 27, 2016 at 8:00 am With the racing season set to kick into full gear during this weekend's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona race, Forza fans now have a chance to get their own taste of endurance racing glory with the Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6, available on Thursday, Jan. 28. Leading off the pack of seven cars is last year's 24 Hours of Daytona winner, the 2015 Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona Prototype. The prototype will be fielded in this weekend's race, which begins at 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Jan. 30 and can be viewed live on Fox Sports 1 in the U.S. The Alpinestars Car Pack features six additional cars, each with a unique pedigree all its own. From the 1990 Mercury #15 Whistler Radar Cougar XR-7 – also a competitor in Daytona 24 Hour events of years past – to the inimitable 2005 Pontiac Aztek (famous more for its fictional owner than its performance), this pack has something for every kind of car fan. Forza Motorsport 6 is the only game where players can drive last year's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona winner on the recently remodeled Daytona International Speedway.

Ford's J Mays feels vindicated by Fusion reception

Tue, 25 Sep 2012

It's hard to think back now, but the same man overseeing the design of the 2013 Ford Fusion also presided over a rather lackluster period in Ford design, highlighted by vehicles like the Five Hundred and Freestyle. With the redesigned Fusion receiving high praise, J Mays tells Automotive News that he feels vindicated from criticisms suggesting he's not a daring enough designer.
When Mays took over as lead of design in 1997, he admits to having quite an ego ("My head would barely fit through the door some days. I've long since gotten over myself") and the workload to match. With the Blue Oval's portfolio full of premium brands like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo at that point, along with the bread-and-butter Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, Mays certainly had quite the challenge.
It was in the mid-2000s that Mays took over just the premium brands, and took on the new title of Chief Creative Officer. At the time, Mays endured some criticism for looking backwards to retro styling, rather than setting a new standard for American car design - criticism that Mays says he is free from with the all-new Fusion.
