Great little car with a 260 V8."

Up for sale I have a 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente Sedan with original matching numbers 260 V8.  This car is excellent condition.  Aside from small surface rust around the back window this car is virtually rust free.  The car has about 129,000 miles and still sports it's original 260 V8 - This car was produced in early 1964 prior to the introduction of the 289 at the end of 1964 with the release of the mustang.  This is an amazing driver - the car runs and drives excellent and has the power to hang on the highway with the modern guys.

Breakdown of the vehicle :

The motor runs and drives excellent.  It has a brand new alternator and voltage regulator.  The car has electronic ignition, recent plugs and wires, coil, chrome valve covers, new brake lines all the way around.

The interior is in amazing condition with newly recovered seats in the original factory style. New carpet and headliner.  Door panels are in excellent condition with wood grain details and Caliente "C" on the panel.  The dash is excellent condition with only minor wear.  The car has a dash pad as well.  A CD player has been installed with some aftermarket speakers.  The original space for the radio was used and the dash was not cut.  All dash gauges work and all of the lights work as well.  The car has an aftermarket tach.  The car has seat belts in the front and back.

The car was painted about 5-6 years ago and has a really nice red exterior with a white top.  The chrome and trim on the car are all in great condition.  The car has a few minor dents and dings but nothing out of the norm.  The only issue the body of the car has is that the drivers fender was replaced and the paint wasn't matched correctly.  The front drivers fender just needs a little smoothing out and a paint match - nothing major and it's strictly vanity. The tires a Bf Goodrich raised letter and are in excellent condition.

The under side of the car is excellent condition.  The floor pans are perfect and I mean perfect.  The floor pans in this car don't even show any surface rust.  The frame is excellent condition as well.  The car leaks no fluids.

This is a beautiful driver car.  It drives excellent and shifts really smooth.  The car is complete with all emblems and trim.  I have the factory hubcaps that go with the car as well.

Please email with any questions and I will get right back with you.

The car is being sold AS-IS with a Bill of Sale (I do not have a title for the car - as it is not required in this state.)

Buyer responsible for any shipping or transport of this vehicle.  I will assist in any way possible to make shipping the car as easy as possible.

Junkyard Gem: 1973 Mercury Montego MX Brougham Sawzall Convertible Edition

Fri, Apr 21 2017

You know how it goes— the weather is warm, you want to do some top-down driving, and you lack a proper convertible... but you do have a hooptie Detroit car on one side of the garage and a big ol' Sawzall on the other. Put the two together and you have a Sawzall Convertible, which generally lasts for about one summer before it gets scrapped. Here's a fine example of such a car, photographed in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service junkyard. Most Sawzall Convertibles (yes, it should be called a roadster, but nobody does that) have raw, ragged metal edges, or maybe duct tape over the stumps of the amputated pillars, but someone went to the trouble to weld nice smooth metal covers over the hackage on this one. The windshield is gone. Instead, the windshield frame is ringed by tongue depressors held in place by gooey roofing tar. No, we don't know why. The Montego MX Brougham was a hot-selling personal luxury coupe in its day, selling for $3,041 in 1973. That's just under $17,000 in 2017 dollars. It must have been fun, cruising this thing on Bay Area streets with no roof and a rattle-can spray-bomb job. This one has the optional 400-cubic-inch V8 engine, rated at 171 horsepower. What would this car's original buyer have thought of its fate? This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The 1965 Ford Mustang could have looked a lot different

Fri, May 8 2020

The 1965 Ford Mustang is unquestionably an automotive design icon, and nearly every generation of Mustang has some connection to that original car. Because it's such a universally-known vehicle, we were amazed to see all the different designs that were being considered. Head of Ford's archives Ted Ryan recently shared photos of design proposals for the original Mustang on Twitter that he and Jamie Myler found, and we reached out to them to find out more. As Ryan initially noted, the photos were taken on August 19, 1962, and they are proposals for the Ford Mustang. Apparently Ford had committed to doing a Falcon-based youth-oriented car at this point, and it did have plans to launch the car in 1964 for the 1965 model year. But after having little success with early design proposals, the company asked all of its design studios — the Advanced Studio, Lincoln-Mercury Studio and Ford Studio — to submit proposals. With only about two years before the planned launch, Ford was understandably short on time, and it's believed that the studios only had a month to create and present these designs. Lincoln-Mercury design proposal View 8 Photos The majority of the designs, a total of five, came from the Advanced Studio, and part of this was because they already had a couple of concept designs in reserve it could present. Two other models representing three design possibilities came from Lincoln-Mercury, and just one model with two options came from Ford. The Advanced Studio proposals are shown in the gallery at the very top of this article, and the Lincoln-Mercury and Ford proposals are in the gallery directly above this paragraph. The Advanced Studio's most radical design is the one that was clearly related to the Mustang I concept that would be shown later that year with huge wraparound rear glass, turbine-inspired bumpers and enormous side scoops. The other proposals from the studio were more conservative, featuring simple lines, grilles reminiscent of the Falcon, and one even borrowing the jet-thruster-style taillights made famous on the Thunderbird. Lincoln-Mercury had some impressively bold designs, particularly its fastback that had buttresses to extend the shape all the way to the tail. This car had two different side trim possibilities. The other Lincoln-Mercury design was toned down a bit, but had two interesting possibilities for side detailing, as well as some crisp, low-profile tail fins.

Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman

Wed, 17 Nov 2010

Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!
