Up for sale I have a 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente Sedan with original matching numbers 260 V8. This car is excellent condition. Aside from small surface rust around the back window this car is virtually rust free. The car has about 129,000 miles and still sports it's original 260 V8 - This car was produced in early 1964 prior to the introduction of the 289 at the end of 1964 with the release of the mustang. This is an amazing driver - the car runs and drives excellent and has the power to hang on the highway with the modern guys.
Breakdown of the vehicle :
The motor runs and drives excellent. It has a brand new alternator and voltage regulator. The car has electronic ignition, recent plugs and wires, coil, chrome valve covers, new brake lines all the way around.
The interior is in amazing condition with newly recovered seats in the original factory style. New carpet and headliner. Door panels are in excellent condition with wood grain details and Caliente "C" on the panel. The dash is excellent condition with only minor wear. The car has a dash pad as well. A CD player has been installed with some aftermarket speakers. The original space for the radio was used and the dash was not cut. All dash gauges work and all of the lights work as well. The car has an aftermarket tach. The car has seat belts in the front and back.
The car was painted about 5-6 years ago and has a really nice red exterior with a white top. The chrome and trim on the car are all in great condition. The car has a few minor dents and dings but nothing out of the norm. The only issue the body of the car has is that the drivers fender was replaced and the paint wasn't matched correctly. The front drivers fender just needs a little smoothing out and a paint match - nothing major and it's strictly vanity. The tires a Bf Goodrich raised letter and are in excellent condition.
The under side of the car is excellent condition. The floor pans are perfect and I mean perfect. The floor pans in this car don't even show any surface rust. The frame is excellent condition as well. The car leaks no fluids.
This is a beautiful driver car. It drives excellent and shifts really smooth. The car is complete with all emblems and trim. I have the factory hubcaps that go with the car as well.
Please email with any questions and I will get right back with you.
The car is being sold AS-IS with a Bill of Sale (I do not have a title for the car - as it is not required in this state.)
Buyer responsible for any shipping or transport of this vehicle. I will assist in any way possible to make shipping the car as easy as possible.
$1000.00 non-refundable deposit due at the closing of auction. The remainder of the payment must be made with 48 hours of the auctions has ended (in cash or certified check) and arrangements to get the car must be made within 72 hours of the auctions end. Ford's J Mays feels vindicated by Fusion reception
Tue, 25 Sep 2012It's hard to think back now, but the same man overseeing the design of the 2013 Ford Fusion also presided over a rather lackluster period in Ford design, highlighted by vehicles like the Five Hundred and Freestyle. With the redesigned Fusion receiving high praise, J Mays tells Automotive News that he feels vindicated from criticisms suggesting he's not a daring enough designer.
When Mays took over as lead of design in 1997, he admits to having quite an ego ("My head would barely fit through the door some days. I've long since gotten over myself") and the workload to match. With the Blue Oval's portfolio full of premium brands like Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo at that point, along with the bread-and-butter Ford, Lincoln and Mercury models, Mays certainly had quite the challenge.
It was in the mid-2000s that Mays took over just the premium brands, and took on the new title of Chief Creative Officer. At the time, Mays endured some criticism for looking backwards to retro styling, rather than setting a new standard for American car design - criticism that Mays says he is free from with the all-new Fusion.
Junkyard Gem: 1989 Mercury Tracer Four-Door Hatchback
Sat, Mar 6 2021During the life of the Mercury brand, which began in 1939 and ended in 2011, nearly every Mercury sold in North America was a cosmetically enhanced version of some Ford model also sold here. The exceptions to this rule came when Mercury sold Fords originally designed for non-North American markets, and for which no Ford-branded version existed on our shores. The 1991-1994 Capri was such a car, as was the 1999-2002 Cougar (the Mondeo-based Cougar was unique among all Mercuries in that no other cars in the sprawling Ford Empire shared its body). The 1970-1978 Capri was sold through Mercury dealers here, but never had Mercury badging. One of the rarest of all these Mercury cars was the first-generation Tracer, a Mazda design that made its way here via Australia. The bloodline of the Tracer goes back to the Mazda 323, the ancestor of today's Mazda3 and the platform used for all those US-market Ford Escorts of the 1990s. Starting in 1991, the Tracer name went onto badge-engineered Escorts, according to Mercury tradition, but the 1988-1989 Tracers were based on the Australian-market Ford KE Laser. Underneath all of those cars (as well as the early-1990s Capris) lived Mazda 323 running gear, of course. This one nearly made it to the 175,000-mile mark during its time on the road, which is respectable by the standards of 1980s Mazdas. With an automatic transmission transferring the 84 horses from its Mazda B6 engine to the front wheels, this car wouldn't have offered a great deal of driving excitement. 1989 Tracer buyers could choose between a two-door hatchback, a four-door hatchback, and a four-door wagon. Not many Americans hurried over to their local Mercury dealers to buy Tracers, despite the fact that the nearest Ford-badged identical twins were on the other side of the globe. Mercury still seemed relevant in the late 1980s, but its days were numbered. The actress driving the Tracer in this TV commercial seems to have the same deer-in-headlights facial expression of the hapless driver-training students in the 1968 AMC Rebel commercial.
What do you do with a fake Bugatti Veyron for $60k?
Tue, Mar 29 2016Replica cars are a challenging labor of love because builders spend countless hours recreating a vehicle that people immediately compare to the real thing. Perhaps, the person behind this Mercury Cougar-based Bugatti Veyron should look for another way to pass that time. The coupe is currently for sale on eBay Motors for $59,900. The builder deserves some credit because the fiberglass body looks acceptable in the photos from farther away. The car might even fool a few people from a distance. However, the devil is in the details, and the closer you look, the worse this gets. The side intakes are especially rough. The red interior is atrocious. It's essentially the Cougar's cabin but in an eye-searing shade accented with lots of fake carbon fiber. The seller's eBay Motors ad really tries to market the look, though. "You slide in to [sic] this extremely comfortable leather interior and you feel like your bank account just quadrupled in size," the listing says. Don't expect to win any top speed titles in this Veyron replica, either. Rather than a mid-mounted quad-turbo W16, a 3.0-liter V6 from a Mercury Sable sits at the front. Thanks to an upgraded intake and exhaust, the seller claims, "It doesn't sound like your grandmas [sic] Sable." We wish the seller the best of luck, but the asking price of nearly $60,000 is probably too optimistic. We would still think twice about buying it even after taking a zero off that figure, but at least this thing is fun to look at. Related Video:
