Up for auction I have a rare find, 1976 Mercury Capri II. I'm selling it for a friend of mine that is unable to work on it anymore due to recent health issues. The body is in excelent condition for the age, It will need very little if any body work, There are no dents to speak of, Its a very solid car. There is a small hole in the floor board that looks like was made from the drivers seat mount worn through about 2 inches by 3 inches. The front seat is not from this car and is a pass side seat from an unknown car, This is how I got it and I have no other front seats, There only appears to be some surface rust around the rear window and the cheapo paint job is chipping from that area it looks worse in the pic then it really is. The bumpers are missing and I got the car that way. The wheels are off of another car again unknown donor, the tires look to be in good shape great tread but would not trust on freeway. I drove this car a week ago and it runs very well, no rattles, knocks and does not smoke, It runs pretty smooth and pulls very hard just like the true german 2.8's should. I did light up the tires and got it sideways in second gear. (testing the trans & clutch) I got it up to 70 mph very easily but it does have the standard high speed wobble that the capri's were known for at over 45 mph and lightly hit brakes (needs front end bushings and maybe struts). The heater core is not connected as it probably leaked, The brakes are very good and it stops nice, I'm also including a new set of pads just as I got with car, There is a spare tire, The car does have true factory dual exhaust with origional cats intact and does not appear to have any leaks, The dash needs fixed as in pics as well as the steering wheel, the steering seems nice and tight with minimal play at all, The transmission and rearend feel very tight without noises, the shifter is a little sloppy not too bad, I looked at it and it just needs linkage bushings redone, The glass is all intact but this is arizona and all the rubber is in bad shape and has shrunk from age so the glass is not being held in very secure, Windshield is cracked. Now for the Bad!!! haha the starter is no good I took it out its sitting in my shop and will need replaced, they are $80 at O'Reilly auto parts. I have been push starting the car without any probs. If the bidding gets to a decent price I will consider buying a starter. If you have any questions please ask before bidding is in its last day as I do not watch the auctions or my emails as I have other things going on. If you are in the phoenix area you are more then welcome to come and look at the car you will not be dissapointed. I'm listing any and all items I see with car and I do my very best to list all of them. This is how I got the car from my friend and this is how its being sold. This is a No reserve auction and the high bidder wins so do not wait till the last minute to bid as it may be over before you get a bid in!!!!

Junkyard Gem: 1973 Mercury Montego MX Brougham Sawzall Convertible Edition

Fri, Apr 21 2017

You know how it goes— the weather is warm, you want to do some top-down driving, and you lack a proper convertible... but you do have a hooptie Detroit car on one side of the garage and a big ol' Sawzall on the other. Put the two together and you have a Sawzall Convertible, which generally lasts for about one summer before it gets scrapped. Here's a fine example of such a car, photographed in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service junkyard. Most Sawzall Convertibles (yes, it should be called a roadster, but nobody does that) have raw, ragged metal edges, or maybe duct tape over the stumps of the amputated pillars, but someone went to the trouble to weld nice smooth metal covers over the hackage on this one. The windshield is gone. Instead, the windshield frame is ringed by tongue depressors held in place by gooey roofing tar. No, we don't know why. The Montego MX Brougham was a hot-selling personal luxury coupe in its day, selling for $3,041 in 1973. That's just under $17,000 in 2017 dollars. It must have been fun, cruising this thing on Bay Area streets with no roof and a rattle-can spray-bomb job. This one has the optional 400-cubic-inch V8 engine, rated at 171 horsepower. What would this car's original buyer have thought of its fate? This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Icon and Stealth EV are building an electric Derelict Mercury

Mon, May 14 2018

Icon, a company known for its high-quality restomod vehicles, is building another Derelict, this one a 1949 Mercury coupe. While the fact Icon is building another one of its sleeper hot rods with patina isn't the most shocking, what's under the hood is. The company has teamed up with Stealth EV to turn this latest Derelict into an electric car. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The car was shown in the above Twitter post with video. The exterior is just what you'd expect from an Icon Derelict. It's solid but with a weathered finish. And even as the guy from Stealth EV approaches the car, it looks like it has a V8 under the hood. But as he explains, there's actually the two motor controllers and half of a Tesla battery pack under there. It's just that they've all been given some classy looking metal casings and mounted to look like a V8. Apparently the motors themselves are in the transmission tunnel. The Stealth EV rep says it uses a pair of AM Racing motors. Depending on which motor controllers the companies are using, those motors could produce as much as 700 horsepower. Power will go to the rear wheels and no transmission will be used, making it direct drive. It will have a limited-slip differential, and the whole car sits on an Art Morrison chassis with independent suspension. This actually isn't the first electric Icon, nor the first developed with Stealth EV. Before this, the companies created a totally awesome electric Volkswagen Thing. That little truck made much less power at 180 horses, but it was also a way smaller and lighter vehicle. Related Video:

Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman

Wed, 17 Nov 2010

Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!
