1966 Mecedes 230 Universal Unrestored Drivable Condition Zero-rust on 2040-cars

This is a 1966 MB 230 Automatic Universal station wagon. At one time this was one of my most favorite W110 Mercedes because of it's non-restored condition and that I bought it from one of the original owners. Since then I have collected more W111 Universals and with the building of my new garage to house only a few MBs, I am sadly selling this one. I have been very fond of Mercedes ever since I was a little kid. For decades I've collected quite a few Mercedes. (mostly fintails) I bought this MB with it's original 230 motor, rebuilt in the 80's and ready to be assembled and put in the car. I've never been fond of two Solex carburetors and with the excitement of wanting to drive this car, I professionally installed a healthy running 250 motor with the two Zeniths that came out of a 1967 250S. I still have the original motor from the MB (pictured) complete with rebuilt Solex carbs that come with the sell of the car. If you look at the valve cover there is a stamp of where the motor was rebuilt ("E.I.S ENGINES PROUDLY MADE IN....") That's all I can read but maybe you recognize the stamp and know where it was rebuilt, I do not. There are yellow markings on all of the bolts, the motor has not been run or taken apart since the rebuilt. Let's talk about taking this MB out for a drive: Since July I've been driving this MB around and added 15 gals of fuel and it still drives great. Some of the issues that it does have: When you drive in a straight line there is play in the steering wheel. I believe it is the center link or a tie rod but when driving over bumps it still feels solid. Talking about the brakes: well they work but like any old MB the brake lines are swollen and sticky and they need replacing. The power steering has a slight leak, I haven't investigated enough to know what it is but it's not terrible. The rest of the MB, Motor and Transmission do not leak a drop. All of the lights and blinkers work perfectly. Random points: -The pictures of the car have been taken on September 4th, 2014. -It has the original 15 inch wheels. -The oil in the trunk of the MB came with it, I am passing it on. -It still has the original California license plate # registered to the car in my name of course. -Five years ago I drove it to Palo Alto "show and shine" event, if you're a local you should remember seeing it. -Around 6203 under-carriages left the Mercedes factories for special body work conversions, this is one of the 639 built in the a two year period but not all became Special body passenger wagons My goal is to sell this Mercedes with a reasonable end-of-auction-bid. The reserve is set at what I consider a reasonable price. Good luck on your bidding. |

Mercedes A-Class next up for facelift
Sun, Jan 11 2015This is the coming Mercedes-Benz A-Class, and in case the paucity of camouflage didn't make it clear, it won't look much different the one that's been on sale for all of two years. Caught in Sweden braving the temperatures, its exterior updates aren't expected to go much further than a reworked face that brings it in line with the recently updated B-Class, including a new grille, headlights and taillights, and bumpers. The cabin is where most of the work is being done, to give it a better punch against the BMW 1 Series. A tweaked dash cluster, better fabrics and materials, the eight-inch tablet-style nav/multimedia screen, and ambient lighting should join the party. The updated range of B-Class engines should also make the jump into the A. A photo caught at a dealer meeting in Barcelona last year makes us pretty sure it will be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year. Until then, there are spy shots to peruse.
YouTube viewers prefer BMW
Fri, Sep 11 2015BMW owners sometimes get a bad rap as being snobbish, rude drivers, but according to a new study by the online marketing company ZEFR, Bimmer aficionados also have a close relationship with the brand's vehicles. With well over 4 billion YouTube views, the German automaker is the industry's king of the road online. Making the popularity even sweeter for marketers, 95 percent of those clicks are for fan videos, which represents loads of free advertising. BMW isn't the only automaker with such an extensive following. Honda comes in a close second with around 4 billion views, and Mercedes-Benz is just a little behind it. Among all brands, it's the norm for fan-made videos rather than the official ones to get the lion's share of the clicks, generally 95 percent or more. "YouTube has become a treasure trove for connecting with the right people for automakers," Dave Rosner, ZEFR marketing boss, said to Automotive News. Beyond just a popularity contest among brands, automotive videos are big business on YouTube, according to ZEFR's research. Enthusiasts are leading the way, too. Racing is by far the most-watched category with 895,000 clips generating a staggering 8.2 billion views. Classic cars are also a very hot topic with 305,000 videos getting 1.6 billion clicks. Surprisingly, when it comes to watching auto videos, sedans are most popular on YouTube with over 9 billion views, according to Automotive News. Meanwhile, SUVs, performance vehicles, and pickups were each around 3 billion or less. You can check out the full study for yourself, as a PDF, here. Related Video:
10 electric cars we’re excited are coming soon
Thu, Sep 22 2022If you were considering buying an electric vehicle a couple years ago, we wouldn't fault you for thinking your options were limited, both in terms of quantity and quality. You just might not have been able to find an electric car that would suit your needs, lifestyle or budget. With the newest generation of EVs that have launched in the past year or two, your options have changed — and improved — dramatically. If you still don't see an EV you like, just wait a little while longer. It won't take long. There are a whole lot more on the horizon, and the problem may soon be in narrowing down your options. To give you an example, here are 10 electric vehicles we're excited about that you'll be able to buy very soon, from GM, from Germany, from Japan and more. Some of these will be available by the end of the year, and all are expected to launch by the end of 2023. The Chevy trio: 2024 Blazer EV, Equinox EV and Silverado EV GM is stepping into the future with strong footing. Following high-end electric launches from GMC (Hummer EV) and Cadillac (Lyriq), Chevrolet is bringing three electric vehicles with familiar nameplates. The 2024 Chevy Blazer EV (above left) will offer a number of versions, starting with the 2LT and RS trims in the summer of 2023, followed by the 557-horsepower SS in the fall and the base 1LT in early 2024. The 2024 Chevy Equinox EV (above right) will go on sale in fall 2023 as a limited-edition model, with volume sales ramping up in 2024, with a base cost of “around $30,000.” For those who prefer a bed to a liftgate, the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV is an electric pickup that looks more like the old Chevy Avalanche than the current Silverado. The WT (work truck) trim launches in fall 2023, while the 664-horsepower RST will follow in 2024.
