LOOKING FOR A 560SL?

AFTER PURCHASING AND SELLING MANY OF THESE VEHICLES ON EBAY-I WOULD OFFER THE FOLLOWING ADVICE "CAVEAT EMPTOR" (LET THE BUYER BEWARE)! MANY OF THE VEHICLES OFFERED FOR SALE HAVE MISLEADING PICTURES AND DESCRIPTIONS! MANY ARE BEING SOLD BECAUSE THEY NEED REPAIRS (SOMETIMES MAJOR) AND YOU CAN REALLY GET STUNG!

LOW MILEAGE IS NOT AN INDICATION OF THE CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE AS MANY LOW MILEAGE VEHICLES HAVE NOT BEEN WELL CARED FOR. HIGHER MILEAGE VEHICLES IN GOOD CONDITION ARE OFTEN GOOD BUYS. THE ENGINES AND TRANSMISSIONS OF THESE "PANZER WAGONS" ARE GOOD FOR 500,000 MILES BEFORE ANY MAJOR SERVICE IS REQUIRED.

IF YOU CANNOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND/OR YOU ARE NOT TERRIBLY KNOWLEDGEABLE YOU ARE TOTALLY DEPENDENT ON THE SELLER'S DESCRIPTION AND EBAY RATINGS. BUYING FROM A DEALER CAN OFTEN BE PROBLEMATIC AS THEY TEND TO LEAVE OUT IMPORTANT DETAILS ABOUT THE VEHICLE'S CONDITION.

THEREFORE IT IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT TO CHECK OUT THE SELLER'S EBAY RATINGS-BOTH THE NUMBER AND THE QUALITY OF THE FEEDBACK.

I AM A RETIRED PHYSICIAN AND MY HOBBY IS REFURBISHING 560'SL'S. ANY NEEDED REPAIRS ARE SUBBED OUT TO MY EXPERIENCED  GERMAN MB MECHANIC. MAJOR UPOLSTERY WORK IS ALSO SUBBED OUT. I FOCUS ON THOSE RELATIVELY MINOR "NIGGLNG" ISSUES THAT TEND TO BE  QUITE EXPENSIVE WHEN PERFORMED IN A REPAIR SHOP.

MY PHILOSOPHY IS SIMPLE- "PURCHASE A QUALITY VEHICLE AND PERFORM ALL NECESSSARY REPAIRS TO A POINT WHERE I WOULD KEEP IT FOR MY PERSONAL USE." ANY ITEMS NOT WORKING ARE FULLY DISCLOSED.

ABOUT THE 560 SL:

PRODUCTION OF THE "107" BEGAN IN 1972 AND TERMINATED IN  1989 WITH THE 560 SL.. MERCEDES THUS HAD 17 YEARS TO CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVE THIS VEHICLE. IT HAS BEEN DUBBED "THE PANZER WAGON "BECAUSE OF ITS WORKMANSHIP AND DURABILITY.

THE 560 SL WAS PRODUCED FROM 1986-1989 AND IS CONSIDERED TO BE THE MOST POPULAR AND COLLECTIBLE. WHEN THE LAST VEHICLE WAS PRODUCED IN  1989 IT SOLD FOR $64,000 (1989 DOLLARS) , SO ONLY THE VERY WEALTHY COULD AFFORD THEM.

BECAUSE OF THEIR EXTREME DURABILITY AND TENDENCY NOT TO RUST THERE ARE STILL PLENTY OF THESES VEHICLES ON THE ROAD AND THEY ARE QUITE  AFFORDABLE.

IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF  SPORTS CAR HISTORY WRITTEN 50 YEARS FROM NOW THESE LATE MODEL 560 SL'S WILL BE WRITTEN  IN AS THE  LAST OF THE TRULY ELEGANT SPORTS TOURING CARS FROM MB. THESE CARS ARE SIMPLY STUNNING -AND WHILE NEW CARS ARE STILL WONDERFUL BY TODAY'S STANDARDS THEY ARE ALL DESTINED TO JUNK YARDS WHEN THEIR COMPUTER SOFTWARE  SYSTEMS ARE NO LONGER SUPPORTED BY THE FACTORY. THESE SUPERBLY CRAFTED MOTORCARS WILL CONTINUE TO BE ROAD-WORTHY DUE TO THEIR PURE MECHANICAL SIMPLICITY. A GUY WITH A SET 0F TOOLS AND A SHOP MANUAL WILL ALWAYS BE AROUND TO WORK ON THESE GEMS FROM MB, MUCH THE SAME WAY AS CARS FROM THE 20'S AND 30'S ARE  REBUILT ABD MAINTAINED SO SIMPLY TODAY. THE  PAINT ON THESE CARS FROM THAT ERA WILL OUTLAST THE NEW PAINTS TEN TO ONE. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A TRUE FUN,WEEKEND CAR WITH COLLECTOR APPEAL ONE OF THESE CARS IS A GREAT WAY TO GO!

IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THESE MERCEDES SL'S FROM THE LATE 80'S WILL BECOME SOME OF THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER COLLECTOR'S ITEMS  IN THE NOT TOO DISTANT FUTURE. THESE CARS ARE ELEGANT TO LOOK AT AND AS PLEASURABLE  TO DRIVE AS A NEW CAR.

VEHICLE HISTORY: I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN MEMPHIS, TENN. AND DROVE TO TULSA WITH ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS!  BECAUSE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A DEALER I HAVE NO RECORDS PRIOR TO PURCHASING THE CAR. I DO HAVE RECORDS OF ALL REPAIRS MADE SINCE PURCHASE. UNFORTUNATELY THE ODOMETER WAS BROKEN AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE SO I HAVE NO IDEA OF TOTAL MILEAGE. I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE LESS THAN 1000 MILES SINCE PURCHASE.

THE VEHICLE: IT IS FINISHED IN ARCTIC WHITE WITH A TAN (PALOMINO) INTERIOR. THERE ARE ONLY A FEW SMALL CRACKS  ON THE DASHBOARD, INDICATING THAT THE VEHICLE HAS SPENT MOST OF IT'S LIFE OUT OF THE WEATHER. EVERYTHING APPEARS ORIGINAL - HIDES, CARPETS, FLOORMATS, ETC. THERE ARE FEW BLEMISHES ON THE FINISH BUT NOTHING THAT DETRACTS FROM THE APPEARANCE OF THE VEHICLE. THERE IS NO RUST!THE HIDES SHOW SOME EVIDENCE OF WEAR AND HAVE BEEN RE-DYED. THEY DO NOT NEED IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT. ALL GUAGES, LIGHTS, SWITCHES ARE FUNCTIONING PERFECTLY! THE ONLY ITEM NOT FUNCTIONING IS THE CRUISE CONTROL, WHICH I HAVE CHOSEN NOT TO REPAIR. WHEELS ARE PRISTINE AND TIRES HAVE PLENTY OF TREAD LEFT. ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION PERFORM FLAWLESSLY. IT IS SMOOTH AND QUIET AND FLOATS DOWN THE ROAD STRAIGHT AWAY AS A MERCEDES SHOULD. THE VEHICLE STARTS RIGHT UP AND EVERYTHING WORKS EXACTLY AS IT SHOULD.

I HAVE INVESTED  OVER $11,000 IN THIS VEHICLE TO BRING IT TO IT'S PRESENT CONDITION, INCLUDING $2000 IN NEW CONVERTIBLE TOP  ETC.  ALL  NEEDED MECHANICAL REPAIRS  HAVE BEEN MADE BY GERMAN MOTOR SHOP IN TULSA. THERE IS A NEW HOOD PAD, NEW TRUNK SEAL, AND DOOR EDGE PROTECTORS INSTALLED. ALSO INCLUDED IS A MATCHING BEVERAGE HOLDER THAT CAME WITH THE CAR (SEE  PICS). THERE ALSO IS A HARD TOP IN GOOD CONDITION (NOT PICTURED) AND A BATTERY MAINTAINER AND CAR COVER INCLUDED.

AS NOTED I HAVE ALL RECORDS OF REPAIRS MADE TO VEHICLE.

BOTTOM LINE - THIS IS A WONERFUL VEHICLE, READY TO DRIVE AND NEEDING NOTHING!!

The Mercedes-Maybach Pullman Guard is a limo with a bulletproof vest

Thu, Sep 22 2016

As fabulously plush as the Mercedes-Maybach Pullman is, there is a certain class of individual for which luxury is only part of the equation. Oligarchs, dictators, kingpins of questionable businesses, and probably some legitimate world leaders all love luxury, but they sometimes face some hairy commutes that demand a bit more protection. For them, the answer to their luxury car needs is the armored Pullman Guard. The Mercedes-Maybach Pullman Guard tops the line of S-Class Guard models that also includes the Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard and the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard. Like the non-armored Pullman it packs loads of leather, seats with practically infinite adjustability, and redundant gauges for rear passengers. It is also by far the longest S-Class vehicle available, stretching more than 40 inches longer than the next-longest Mercedes-Maybach. This tremendous length allows the Pullman Guard to have four-passenger seating in the rear, with two seats facing two others. It's the perfect place to sign treaties or entertain diplomats. Or, if foreign affairs aren't your speed, it would also be a convenient place to carve up territory, issue ultimatums to enemies, and intimidate dissidents. The Pullman Guard was developed alongside the standard Pullman, and because of that, the added armor does not sacrifice interior space. The armor does affect weight, though. The Pullman Guard weighs over 11,000 pounds. But, in return, the steel plates on the sides and floor, non-Kevlar-brand high-strength fabrics, and polycarbonate-backed windows protect occupants from bullets and explosives. Plus, the Pullman Guard features a twin-turbo V12 that produces 530 horsepower and 612 lb-ft of torque to haul the added ballast around. If a recognized authority is ordering a Pullman Guard, Mercedes also offers sirens, flashing lights, two-way radios, an emergency starter battery, and a loudspeaker system. These items are sure to be useful when trying to navigate seas of protestors in the streets. All of this extra protection will cost you though, and if you have to ask, you definitely can't afford it. But we'll tell you the price anyway. A standard Pullman will run around $500,000 at current exchange rates. For the Guard model, be prepared to shell out about $1.56 million. It's a steep price for sure, but for those whose pampered lives are in danger, it's probably worth it.

Mercedes previews GLC crossover coupe concept for Shanghai

Fri, Apr 3 2015

Say what you will about slant-backed crossover coupes: if the industry has learned anything from BMW and its X6, it's that they're popular... and profitable. Little wonder, then, that Mercedes followed suit with the release of the GLE Coupe. And now it appears set to follow the lead set by the BMW X4 as well with a smaller GLC Coupe... at least, that is, in concept form. Previewed in this latest teaser rendering is the Concept GLC Coupe, a design study which Mercedes is set to present at the Shanghai Motor Show later this month. The statement that accompanies it (which you can read below) doesn't tell us much, except to say that it is "near-production-standard" – which is to say that it stands a strong chance of reaching showrooms. As it is, the GLC with a conventional roofline is set to take the place of the GLK in Benz's expanding crossover lineup. The emergence of this concept ought to preview that new model's styling, regardless of how steeply its roofline tapers off towards the back. The Shanghai show is, incidentally, the same venue Mercedes originally floated the idea of its smallest crossover with the presentation of the Concept GLA two years ago. And as we all know, that subsequently entered production – in a form closely following that of the concept. So we wouldn't be surprised to see a GLC Coupe emerge in close proximity to its more conventional counterpart (maybe even before), heavily influenced by the show car we'll see later this month.
