You are bidding on one of the lowest mileage Mercedes CLK320's remaining. This car has only travelled 26,200-miles from new, has never seen snow, always garaged and is in immaculate condition. I bought this car from an independant Florida dealer who in turn obtained it as a trade-in from the original owner. Between Florida and Texas this car has seen nothing but sunny, salt-free roads and it shows!

This particular CLK320 is in immaculate condition presented in a very rare Quartz Blue with Black leather interior. The car is solid, rattle free, in excellent condition and will be sadly missed. The following text is a very honest assessment of the car and it's condition -

  1. Mechanical - as of today the car needs nothing! See my notes below on the $5,000+ work performed since April 2013. Next service due in approximately 5,000-miles (per the onboard computer)
  2. Exterior - there are a couple of small stone chips on the hood and a very small dent on the rear fender that would not show up on the photos due to its small size! Otherwise all paint and body panels are original
  3. Soft Top - immaculate and free from any holes or tears. All hydraulic cylinders are working well and the top raises and lowers as it should.
  4. Interior - Exceptionally clean! No discoloration of seats, wood or interior parts. Carpets are in fantastic condition. This car includes a 100% intact rear wind breaker with all sliding sleeves working well.
  5. Electrical - everything works without exception. Radio and CD changer work well, all speakers are in fantastic condition.
  6. Extras - the mobile phone is still inside the car and powers up - the 1G network on which it worked of course no longer exists in the USA (so you can't make calls from the phone). All books, three keys (two original and one new 4th generation key) and receipts for the work I've performed are included.
  7. Known defects - at present the only item that does not work is the multi-contour seat function. This is ran by the same (new) vacuum pump that operates the central locking so I do not know what has caused the seat contour function to stop working. Note! This is totally separate from the multi-way seat adjustment that works well for both the passenger and drivers sides.
So why am I selling? This is an excellent car and I have thoroughly enjoyed driving it. I have recently bought a very rare 1999 Mercedes E55 with 30,000-miles which I have just finished restoring. I only have room for one of these and the E55 wins for practicality with my 11-month old daughter! If I hadn't found the E55 I wouldn't be selling this one!

Since buying the car I have invested more than $5,000 in 'Life Preservation' work to ensure this car is mechanically excellent. If you are looking at a car that is 14+ years old and was rarely driven, then all fluids and associated items should be replaced (or you will be doing it very soon!) Rest easy knowing that since April 2013 a Mercedes Benz Main Dealer or an Independent Mercedes Benz garage has performed the following work -
  • Replaced Valve Cover Gaskets
  • Replaced Vacuum Pump in the trunk (operates the central locking)
  • Replaced Passenger Door mirror motor
  • Replaced Oil and Filter
  • Replaced Air Filter and Cabin Filter (time consuming one as it is behind the dash)
  • Replaced Fuel Filter
  • Replaced Rear End Fluid
  • Replaced Transmission Fluid and Filter
  • Flushed, cleaned and replaced Coolant System
  • Recharged a/c system
  • Oiled and Lubricated all door locks and convertible hood joints
  • Cleaned and protected all electrical connections
  • Installed new OEM black floor mats
  • Installed new Glove Box Lid catch (the old one looked scratched)
  • Bought new 4th Generation ignition key from Mercedes ($430!!)
  • Bought locking wheel nuts from Mercedes
  • Replaced leaking Rear Deck Lid Soft Top latch and replaced soft top hydraulic fluid at Mercedes ($1,307!)
  • Mercedes re-machined three of the four AMG alloy wheels
  • Bought four new Yokohama YK580 tires ($847) that now have ran 7,000-miles since installation.

F1 title fight gets closer | 2016 US Grand Prix recap

Mon, Oct 24 2016

We ran into an old friend at the US Grand Prix: an on-form Lewis Hamilton. Reliability and proper clutch actuation helped the Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver resurrect the kind of performance we haven't seen since July at the German Grand Prix. After demolishing the previous qualifying record around the Circuit of the Americas, he put the field in his mirrors as soon as the lights went out, was never bothered by anyone behind, and crossed the finish line 4.5 seconds ahead of teammate Nico Rosberg. The drive was exactly what Hamilton needed to keep his molecule-thin Championship hopes alive. Rosberg, however, did exactly what he needed to do as well by finishing second. The German had a sketchier path to the checkered flag than Hamilton, getting pushed back to the third at the start by Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo. Worse, Ricciardo appeared to have the pace to keep Hamilton honest ahead and hold Rosberg behind. Red Bull and Mercedes matched one another's pit stops, and it was clear the German would need more help to pass the Aussie. Rosberg didn't have to make his own luck, Ricciardo's teammate Max Verstappen made the luck for him. Ricciardo pitted on Lap 26, ceding second position on track to Rosberg. On Lap 30, Verstappen's gearbox failed while headed down the back straight. The Dutch teenager said the team told him to try to get the car back to the pits, so he dawdled through a few corners before following more team orders to pull over and park. Verstappen's parking spot and bad gearbox meant marshals couldn't push the car off the track, they needed to use a crane. That brought out a Virtual Safety Car, slowing the whole race down and allowing Rosberg to run a longer stint while losing less time on old tires. When the German came in for new tires on Lap 31 he emerged ahead of Ricciardo, and they ran that way to the end of the race, much to Ricciardo's disappointment. Sebastian Vettel claimed fourth for Ferrari, a placing perhaps due only to Verstappen and Kimi Raikkonen retiring from the race. An otherwise anonymous weekend for the scuderia called attention to itself on race day when Raikkonen had to call it a day after a botched pit stop, and Vettel couldn't make any impression on the teams ahead. Fernando Alonso rode home to a brilliant fifth for McLaren. During the first stint while rummaging around outside the top ten, the Spaniard complained about his lack of pace. By Lap 15 Alonso was tenth, on Lap 34 he was eighth.

Race Recap: 2016 Austrian GP is mishaps from start to finish

Tue, Jul 5 2016

At the 2015 US Formula 1 Grand Prix, rain mixed up the grid and a first-lap incident cast the die for the race. The Austin, Texas event made highlight reels for those reasons and because it decided the Driver's Championship. At the 2016 Austrian F1 Grand Prix, rain mixed up the grid and a last-lap incident cast the die for the race. The Spielbergring race will feature in this year's highlight reel because it might force Mercedes-AMG Petronas to make some hard decisions about the rest of the season. For the first time this season, Lewis Hamilton converted pole position into a lead through Turn 1, and began slowly pulling away from the field. Teammate Nico Rosberg started from sixth because of a gearbox penalty, but was up to third when he pitted on Lap 11. Mercedes normally pits the lead driver first, in this case being Hamilton, but Mercedes wanted to get Rosberg ahead of the two Ferraris. Hamilton pitted on Lap 22, emerging behind Rosberg because of a slow stop. Sebastian Vettel led the race for Ferrari on Lap 27 when his right rear tire exploded coming down the start-finish straight – an eerie reminder of the 2015 Belgian Grand Prix. The Safety Car rolled out, yet when racing resumed Rosberg stayed ahead. After the two Mercs came in for second stops everyone expected Hamilton to lead, but Hamilton had messed up his in-lap and lost a cumulative 3.3 seconds during his actual stops compared to Rosberg's pit-stop times. The Brit remained second. Hamilton chased his teammate for the final 15 laps. At the beginning of the last lap Rosberg messed up Turn 1 and Hamilton closed in. Rosberg took the inside line into Turn 2 as Hamilton pulled up on the outside, then Rosberg appeared to drive straight on as if he simply wasn't going to turn. Hamilton turned in, colliding with Rosberg and driving over the German's front wing. By the end of Turn 2, Hamilton had the lead and Rosberg had a broken car. The Brit won, the German puttered home to finish fourth. The incident promoted Max Verstappen to second and Kimi Raikkonen to third. Verstappen scored his second podium for Red Bull after his victory in Spain. Conversely, Raikkonen's third place for Ferrari was more gifted scraps for the scuderia. Daniel Ricciardo came fifth in the second Red Bull, Jenson Button delivered a terrific sixth for McLaren- Honda, Romain Grosjean got Haas back in the points, Carlos Sainz, Jr. secured eighth for Toro Rosso, and Valtteri Bottas in ninth for Williams.

Production Mercedes GLC Coupe coming in 2016

Fri, Sep 18 2015

If the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe Concept from this year's Shanghai Motor Show caught your eye, we've got good news. The company confirmed that this model will enter production, and we should see the road-going model early next year, probably at the New York Auto Show. Dr. Gunnar Guthenke, Mercedes' G-Class boss, confirmed this during an event following this week's Frankfurt Motor Show. He's particularly proud of how Mercedes has expanded its crossover and SUV lines, and the addition of the BMW X4-fighting GLC Coupe only proves further commitment to this growth. The numbers don't lie – Mercedes' crossover and SUV sales are up 25 percent this year, compared to 2014 numbers. Even Mercedes' halo of SUVs, the G-Class, is experiencing increased sales. The company set a record for G-Class sales in 2014, and is on track to do it again this year; sales are up roughly 20 percent. For 2016, the G-Wagen gets a number of enhancements, including a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 as the new base engine. Other markets get a new diesel engine for 2016, and more updates are on the way. "Our legend has a bright future," Guthenke said. We'll have a full review of the updated G550 next week, so stay tuned.
