Mercedes Ml 500 2002 - Garaged - Looks And Runs Like A Low Mileage Vehicle on 2040-cars
Stuart, Florida, United States

Don’t put too much emphasis on the mileage. This nice, one owner, Mercedes is in really great condition with no damage history, a new torque converter, a recently rebuilt transmission and all services up to date. All of the manuals, both keys, original brochure, Mercedes high mileage award, and window sticker are also present. With one caveat (tires) that is discussed below, I would drive it across the country tomorrow with expectations of a completely trouble free trip.
This was my single 52 year old daughter’s car. It was purchased new from the Mercedes dealer in Knoxville, TN and serviced by them until last fall. While technically a two owner vehicle, the second owner never really got to use it and it has been in my garage here in Stuart, Florida ever since my daughter brought it from her garage in TN. This premium Mercedes spent most of its life in a garage, was never driven to work, rear seats rarely used - no children - never smoked in - no accidents - never used as a truck. While it has the towing package, it has only been used for one short easy tow of about 5 miles. Most of the mileage came from my daughter travelling back and forth to Florida to visit her parents. Of course, living some twenty minutes from the closest grocery store didn’t help either. But the bottom line is that the vehicle was in a garage whenever it was not on the road and the finish still has a great shine and the interior and the exterior look great.
Last fall we sold this ML to a close friend, at a time when he was fighting lung cancer. While the prognosis for recovery was very good at the time, it turned out to be overly optimistic, and he passed a couple of months ago. I am now offering this fine vehicle on behalf of his widow. She has another car and no need for two. I may just buy it back from her if it doesn't find a new home fairly quickly. I would do so in a heartbeat if I had any use for another vehicle, however my wife and I are the only drivers in our household and our six car garage is already pretty full with four other Mercedes, plus a Toyota Previa van that meets our needs for a utility vehicle. We are a family of automotive enthusiasts that take care of our vehicles. They are not just detailed for sale; they are maintained that way at all times. We have been active members of the Mercedes club for over forty years. One of the last personal Mercedes that I sold was a 300SEL 6.3 that I had owned for 29 years. I sold it back to Mercedes and it currently resides at their classic car center in Irvine CA.
This ML500 has been a great vehicle from a service standpoint with no significant service issues until 225,000 miles. At that point, my daughter detected an increase in fuel consumption which led us to replace the torque converter. Since that meant dropping the transmission, we had the transmission rebuilt by a top transmission shop as preventive maintenance, even though it was still functioning perfectly. With this work so recently completed however, the potential for any expensive service issues has been substantially reduced. The engine runs perfectly and uses no oil. I truly believe that this vehicle will run for the next 200,000 miles without any serious maintenance issues. This vehicle has been meticulously maintained and everything works perfectly from the remote door locks to the radio, CD player and Navigation system (with updated maps).
I would be remiss if I did not mention that the tires are approaching the end of their useful life. Personally, I would replace them now, although our good friend that bought it last fall was not concerned, because he did not expect to be putting a lot of miles on the vehicle. If a buyer so desires, I could arrange for installation of a new set of 275/55/17 Michelin Latitude tires prior to delivery. Cost with mounting, balancing and the recommended 4 wheel alignment would be $985. The vehicle just had a complete service and inspection by the local Mercedes dealer. As a result of their detailed inspection we went ahead and replaced the isolation bushings on the torsion bars along with the transmission mounts even though our service adviser felt that replacement was not really necessary. In my opinion this ML500 is currently driving and performing as well as it did when it was new. This is a very nice Mercedes in excellent condition. As long as we can get a refund on eBay fees we will refund all funds if not completely satisfied at time of pickup. If you would like to see any additional photos just ask. |

Mercedes-Maybach spied inside and out sporting the huge S-Class screen
Wed, Apr 22 2020A new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is well on its way, and that means a new Mercedes-Maybach is following right behind it. We were introduced to the new Mercedes-Maybach strategy over five years ago. At the end of 2019, Mercedes added to the small collection with the GLS 600, bringing an SUV into the Maybach fold. These spy shots mark our first good look inside and outside the next-gen Mercedes-Maybach sedan. We’ll point out the massive screen first. Photos of this huge slab of screen have largely shown it turned off. Now, we get a solid look at the display all lit up and running MercedesÂ’ next iteration of MBUX. The icons and UX look a whole lot like MercedesÂ’ current infotainment system design, just blown up to a much larger size. Mercedes is surely going to hit us with some new out-there features we didnÂ’t know we wanted and may not even use, but thatÂ’s the way it goes with excessive luxury. The gauge cluster is pretty standard for new Mercedes with a flat digital screen. An “EQ” emblem displayed in the cluster also indicates that Mercedes plans to implement its EQ Boost mild-hybrid tech with the turbocharged engine(s) offered in this new generation. The current car comes in S560 (V8) and S600 (V12) variations. We don't know what MercedesÂ’ powertrain plans are for the time being, but the GLS 600 uses 48-volt technology with its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and makes 550 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. Ideally, the smooth and silky V12 sticks around in the top-shelf S-Class as well. As for the design, itÂ’s exactly what one might expect from a Mercedes-Maybach. The wheelbase is stretched compared to the regular S-Class weÂ’ve spied before, and it has the signature slatted grille. Pop-out door handles appear to be carried over from the new S-Class, too. We expect the new S-Class isnÂ’t far from a reveal. ThereÂ’s a chance it still breaks cover this year, even as most automakers face delays from the coronavirus. Once itÂ’s out, the Mercedes-Maybach is likely to follow soon after. Related video:
Our love of SUVs is killing people in the streets
Tue, Jul 17 2018Americans are fond of supersized fast-food meals and colossal convenience-store fountain drinks, even though they're clearly bad for our health and U.S. adults keep getting fatter. We also like large vehicles, and our love affair with SUVs is killing people in the streets. According to a recent investigation by the Detroit Free Press/USA Today, the increase in SUV sales over the past several years coincides with a sharp rise in pedestrian deaths in the U.S. — up 46 percent since 2009, with nearly 6,000 people killed in 2016 alone. With SUV sales surpassing sedans in 2014 and pickups and SUVs currently accounting for 60 percent of new vehicle sales, it's no wonder Ford announced in April plans to cease U.S. sales of almost all passenger cars. And this followed Fiat Chrysler's move to virtually an all-truck, -SUV and -crossover lineup. While the Freep/USA Today investigation found that the simultaneous surge in SUV sales and pedestrian deaths comes down to vehicle size, it also points to a lack of action on the part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), even though it knew of the dangers SUVs pose to pedestrians. Also blamed are automakers dragging their feet on implementing active safety features. Using federal accident data, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) determined that there was an 81 percent increase in single-vehicle pedestrian fatalities involving SUVs between 2009 and 2016. Freep/USA Today's analysis of the same data by counting vehicles that struck and killed pedestrians instead of the number of people killed showed a 69 percent increase in SUV involvement. As far back as 2001, researchers at Rowan University forecasted a rise in pedestrian deaths as Americans began switching to SUVs. "In the United States, passenger vehicles are shifting from a fleet populated primarily by cars to a fleet dominated by light trucks and vans," the researchers wrote, with light trucks comprising SUVs.
Aston Martin's deal with Mercedes-AMG more than skin-deep
Tue, Jun 30 2015Aston Martin is working on a raft of new models. But it's not going it alone: it has a technical partnership with Mercedes-AMG, the details of which have only been revealed in bits and pieces. If these latest spy shots are anything to go by, however, the arrangement could run deeper than anyone initially let on. Spied undergoing testing at the Nurburgring, this prototype for the upcoming successor to the Aston Martin DB9 is widely expected to be called the DB11 (10 is being used by James Bond's new ride). From the outside it doesn't look different than the previous versions we've seen running around, but this time we can also peer into the cabin, and that's where things start to get interesting. Despite the best arm-waving efforts by the development engineers, our spy photographers managed to snap a couple of shots of the interior. And though it looks far from being ready for production, the components we see appear to have been lifted from the Mercedes S-Class Coupe – particularly the steering wheel, digital instrument cluster, and almost the entire center console. This speaks to a deeper collaboration between the British and German automakers. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 from the Mercedes-AMG GT, C63, and G500 4x42 is already being adapted for use in the next generation of Astons. Related Video:
