Exterior The CLS-Class redesigned exterior takes the look up a notch, incorporating elements from the SLS AMG supercar including a deep grille and long hood. The profile evokes a sports car rather than a sedan, but the rear has a stubby, teardrop shape.Standard features include bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights and 18-inch wheels. Nineteen-inch wheels and full-LED adaptive headlights are optional.Interior The redesigned interior has room for four with front bucket seats and two rear seats separated by a full-length center console. Theres real wood trim, and the seats are finished in standard leather upholstery. Heated and ventilated front seats are optional. Additional options include a power rear sunshade, a heated steering wheel and iPod connectivity.Under the Hood The CLS550 is powered by a 402-horsepower, twin-turbo 4.6-liter V-8 engine while the CLS63 AMG features a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 that belts out 518 hp (550 hp with the AMG Performance Package). Both engines work with a seven-speed automatic Standard safety features include side-impact airbags for the front seats, front knee airbags, side curtain airbags, antilock brakes, an electronic stability system and active front head safety features include side-impact airbags for the rear seats, a blind spot warning system, lane departure warning and prevention, a collision warning and mitigation system, front and rear parking sensors, a backup camera and night vision.

YouTube's Super Bowl commercial buzz list dominated by automakers [w/videos]
Thu, 31 Jan 2013After Sunday's big game, YouTube will be the place to watch every commercial that you missed when you left your seat for an emergency guac refill or, as we say in Cleveland, took the Browns to the Super Bowl. That makes YouTube the nation's water cooler on Monday, and it's got some preliminary stats to share in the lead up to kickoff.
As you know, Super Bowl advertisers, particularly automakers, like to endlessly tease their big budget commercials in the weeks before the game, many times revealing them outright days in advance. Because of this, YouTube can tell us which commercials have been viewed the most so far, and their top five list is all automakers.
Kaley Cuoco appears to have been a good investment for Toyota, as her ad for the RAV4 has garnered the most YouTube views - six million and counting - among Super Bowl commercials so far. Second place goes to Mercedes-Benz, though not its actual Super Bowl commercial, but rather the teaser for it. You know, the one with Kate Upton and the car washing, which is up to 5.6 million views. Third place is Audi's Prom commercial (3.3M views), fourth goes to Volkswagen's slightly controversial Get In, Get Happy ad (3.3M views), and the fifth and final spot is bookended by the teaser video for Kaley Cuoco's commercial (3.2M views). The all-new 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, designated W222, is one of the most highly anticipated debuts of its model year. Every generation of the flagship sedan has broken new ground in technology and innovation for the entire industry, and the German automaker appears determined to raise the bar much further with its latest arrival as it promises to deliver "the best automobile in the world." Mercedes-Benz has just released nearly two dozen interior images of the new sedan, showing off style in design, craftsmanship in execution and pioneering advancements in technology.
Unlike all previous generations - the first S-Class officially arrived in 1972 - the 2014 model completely discards a traditional instrument cluster and replaces it with two high-resolution color displays in 8:3 format with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches (the outgoing model's gauges were a mix of digital and analog). The left unit displays traditional analog gauges (digitally, of course) while the right unit is reserved for infotainment and comfort settings with the automaker's all-new mBrace2 - a cloud-based entertainment and information delivery system that is rolling out this year.

In the wintery wilds of northern Alaska, even the cute little critters want to kill you.
As I am about to nod off on my long leg flight from Minneapolis to Anchorage ahead of driving to the Arctic Circle, the friendly twenty-something Alaskan knitting furiously in the seat next to me pauses and says, "When you're driving up there, don't open your windows." In the dead of winter? I hadn't planned on cruising alfresco, but her warning to keep the glazing snugged against the weatherstripping is one I would take to heart. She continues: "If you leave 'em open, a fox is liable to jump right in. There are lots of rabid foxes up there, and they leap into your car and just Go. To. Town." And here I was, thinking that a curious bear or maybe an ill-placed moose in the road was going to be my biggest potential four-legged threat.
