This AMG has been professionally blacked out with smoked headlights and taillights. Also has black powder coated rims (not painted). The powder coating bakes the paint onto the rims for long lasting durability. This vehicle also has brand new tires, brakes and rotors with less than 1000 miles on them. This work was done by RBM Mercedes of Atlanta.Car & Driver Reviews.2008 Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMGLet's leave it at this: stupefying. SHORT TAKE ROAD TESTLike the top-dog S-class sedan on which it's based, the CL-class two-door is now offered in four versions that range from the 382-hp CL550, a luxurious coupe that would seem to offer enough thrills for any reasonable driver, to its evil twin, the thoroughly entertaining, completely irrational, Lohan-grade 604-hp CL65 AMG. Slotted between those amusing extremes are the other two versions of the CL, the CL600 and the CL63 AMG. At first glance, the CL600 and the CL63 seem quite similar—they are priced within $10,000, each has just over 500 horsepower, their weight varies by some 11 pounds, and they post nearly identical performance numbers. Yet the character of each version is actually as different as a CL550 is to a CL65.Two distinctive engines are what make the two CLs very singular cars. Powering the CL63 AMG is a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V-8 that churns out 518 horsepower at 6800 rpm and 465 pound-feet of torque at 5200 rpm. Eminently powerful, the V-8 lives to rev to its 7200-rpm redline and is perfectly matched to the seven-speed automatic. The powertrain thrusts the CL63 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 12.8 seconds at 113 mph—numbers that are identical to our CL600 test car's performance.Since the CL63 is a product of Mercedes-Benz's AMG tuner shop, it gets a full-on Los Angeles-grade body kit, 20-inch wheels on a stiffened and lowered chassis, and a dual exhaust that sounds like ripping hundred-dollar bills at high amplification.

Maybach could become Mercedes-Benz sub-brand

Wed, 22 Jun 2011

When you're arriving in a twin-turbocharged, twelve-cylinder Maybach limo, there's no reason you should ever have to be late. Except, maybe, to make a fashionable entrance. But up at the corporate level, the entire Maybach brand is being slowed down as critical decisions about its future are being undertaken.
Last week, we reported that a decision on what path Maybach would take going forward would be due at the start of next month, but the latest reports indicate that the timeframe has been extended as further options are being considered.
The previous options under consideration were twofold: either relaunch the brand with production outsourced to Aston Martin - which suddenly finds itself with excess production capacity - or shut it down completely. And those are still two very real options. Word has it that Aston has put together four concept cars for the Daimler brass to consider, all based on the next-generation S-Class platform (and thankfully not the old one).

Mercedes C-Class Coupe due to go on sale next December

Sat, Dec 6 2014

While we expect to see the coming Mercedes C-Class convertible sometime next year, perhaps at the Paris Motor Show, Auto Motor und Sport reports that the C-Class Coupe will go on sale in December 2015 (probably in Europe first) - it's possible we'll see it debuted at the same time as the cabrio. The German magazine says the two-door will have sharper lines on a body that is four inches longer, almost two inches wider and a fraction of an inch lower than the sedan, dimensional aggrandizement that will be put to good effect on the AMG version coming in 2016. We'll have to wait for information on powertrains, which should hew to the sedan's lineup in addition to whatever else M-B might bring over here, topped off by the 503-horsepower, twin-turbo V8 in the AMG variant. Speaking of which, the 'last-generation' C63 AMG Coupe is still on sale until spring of next year, if you're a fan of the classics. Or you can wait on news of the C-Class four-door coupe, if niches inside of niches are what you're really after.

Lewis Hamilton blasts to pole position for British Grand Prix

Sat, Jul 15 2017

SILVERSTONE, England - Lewis Hamilton took pole position for his home British Grand Prix for the third year in a row on Saturday with a sensational lap that left him one step away from Michael Schumacher's Formula One record. Hamilton's championship-leading Ferrari rival Sebastian Vettel, who has a 20-point advantage after nine of 20 races, qualified third. The Mercedes driver was half a second quicker than Ferrari's second placed Kimi Raikkonen and his time of one minute 26.600 seconds was so outrageously quick there were gasps before the crowd erupted. "I always try to leave the best to last," the Briton told retired champion Jenson Button in post-qualifying interviews on the grid. "I had to make sure I got that lap in. I couldn't do it last weekend (in Austria) so I made sure I could here." Hamilton still faced a nervous wait after race stewards announced they were investigating an incident involving French driver Romain Grosjean, who complained he had been blocked earlier in the session. They swiftly decided to take no further action. The Briton's mastery of a damp but drying track lit up an overcast afternoon and the pole was the 67th of his career, sixth of the season, and gave him every chance of equalling Schumacher's record 68 before the August break. The triple world champion has won the last three British Grands Prix and can equal the late Jim Clark's feat of four home wins in a row, and five in total, on Sunday. Saturday ensured he has already matched Clark's 50-year-old record of five British Grand Prix pole positions. "I feel amazing in front of a great crowd like this. I hope you liked the lap," Hamilton told the grandstands full of cheering fans. "I generally like it to be dry, but I like it when the conditions are tricky." Hamilton's Finnish team mate Valtteri Bottas, winner in Austria, was fourth fastest but has a five-place penalty following a gearbox change. That promoted Red Bull's Dutch teenager Max Verstappen, who has suffered five retirements in the last seven races, to the second row. Renault's Nico Hulkenberg and his former Force India team mate Sergio Perez filled the third row. There was good news for beleaguered McLaren, who raised a cheer when Fernando Alonso made the most of improving conditions to set the fastest time in the first phase of qualifying, with Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne qualifying ninth.
