2017 Mercedes SL leaks online ahead of LA debut

Mercedes-Benz already teased the refreshed face for the SL-Class with a shadowy photo ahead of a big debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, but a newly leaked gallery now sheds light on the upgraded luxury convertible. The 32 photos provide a look at several models of the droptop, and you can check them all out in the gallery above. As the teaser suggests, the new front end adapts elements from the AMG GT like narrower, arched headlights that include the LED running lights. Mercedes' designers also resculpt the hood and fit a front bumper with an additional opening between the grille and lower air dam. The rear incorporates tweaked taillights and a bumper that features small vents just behind the wheels. There appears to be some updated trim inside like a different steering wheel and infotainment improvements. While these images provide a complete look at the updated design, the technical details about the refreshed SL-Class are still a mystery. According to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport, some models reportedly receive a nine-speed automatic, the Dynamic Select system to tweak the drive, and Active Body Control to lean into corners. Upgraded brakes are also allegedly on the AMG models. All of these improvements seem plausible, and we might see some engine adjustments too. We get to learn about any more changes very soon at next week's LA Auto Show. Mercedes-AMG GT3 thunders into Geneva debut [w/video]

Mercedes-Benz took the opportunity to debut its replacement for the SLS AMG GT3 at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show today, showing off the new AMG GT3. Unlike the road car on which it's based, Mercedes ditched the turbocharged V8 for its awesome 6.3-liter V8, which also powered the GT3's predecessor. That's far from the only change found for the racing variant of the new model, however. Mercedes conducted a serious overhaul of the car's aerodynamics, fitting a huge rear wing and an equally enormous front splitter. The front bumper is also home to a quartet of winglets, which add even more downforce to the front end. As we suspected in our original post on the GT3, the rear of the car has been fitted with a none-too-subtle rear diffuser. The cooling needs of the track have also been enhanced, courtesy of large ducts on the fenders and a deep vent in the hood, while meaty slats sit over the front wheel wells. In addition to the rear diffuser, large ducts have been fitted to both sides of the rear bumper. The AMG GT3 looks like a compelling offer in the world of customer racers, although we won't know that for certain until it hits the track for some competition. That should be later this year at the earliest, as Mercedes is targeting late 2015 for the first customer deliveries. Mercedes previews sleek concept for CES

It was over two months ago that we spotted a mysterious cloaked prototype said to belong to Mercedes, but we didn't know much about it at the time. And we still don't, but at least the German automaker has given us an idea of what to look forward to. Released on Facebook is this teaser image showing a silhouette of what appears to be that same concept car. The image is accompanied only by these few words: "The future will be bolder than you've ever imagined" and tagged by an accompanying #mbCES - which tells us only that, a) it's futuristic, which we already knew, and b) that it's coming to the CES, set to be held around a week from now in Las Vegas. The sleek one-box design appears to have some sort of appendage atop its roof – just the kind of periscope that might house, say, some cameras – leading to speculation that the idea behind this concept would be to showcase autonomous driving technology. We'd also be surprised if it weren't electric powered and – given the backdrop for its reveal – all the technology Daimler can throw at it.
