Engine Fire Forces Sale.

History
This has always been a rust-free California car.  I purchased the car about 5 years ago from the 2nd owner, and over time I restored the car.  Everything on the car had been completely gone thru prior to the fire.

The list of things I did is extensive and it pains me to list everything, but here is a brief summary. I have a 3-ring binder full of receipts (including the original receipt from Barry Taylor Enterprises where the AMG WIDEBODY conversion was done) and I'm sure I'm forgetting some things

Exterior
*New 040 black paint and body
*Newly refurbished AMG 5 spoke road wheels
*NOS Lorinser / Sebring muffler
*New BFG GForce Sport tires (sized to correct / original AMG spec)

Interior

*Custom AMG-Style door cards with grey gen2 inserts into black door panels
*Completely refinished all wood trim (by Madera Concepts in Goleta, CA)
*Refurbished speedometer cluster with genuine gray-face AMG speedometer
*Mint black crack-free dash
*New headliner
*New package tray / hat shelf
*New Alpine head unit, new speakers

Mechanical

*Rebuilt transmission
*Installed 2.82 rear differential
*Installed OEM Tri-Y headers
*Plenty of work was also done on the engine (all by Enrique at MR MB Motors) but with the fire that may or may not mean anything going forward

These issues will need to be addressed --

Mechanical --
New wiring harness
How much of the engine is salvageable is unknown, but assume everything that bolts on will need to be replaced.
It had a strong-running stock 5.0L, now would be a good time to drop in that 5.4L!!

Cosmetic --
Most everything from the firewall forward, with the exception of the front bumper, AMG front spoiler and possibly the passenger side widebody fender. It will also need a new windshield.

My plan was to buy a gen1 euro parts car, source most of the missing bits, and go from there. But plans have changed...
Asking $10K. Reasonable offers will be considered. I am NOT looking to part the car out at this time so PLEASE do not ask.
It is in storage, inside, in SoCal if you want to see it in person. However, it's not around the corner from me so I can't take pics of every nook and cranny.

The car rolls and stops but doesn't run

NOTE: ALL PHOTOS HERE ARE OF THE ACTUAL VEHICLE.
*I have included photos of the restoration, including the interior and all the paint and bodywork.
*I have included photos of after the restoration, complete interior and exterior.
*I have included photos of the fire damage.
The car sits as it looks in the fire damage photos, though I have removed the hood for safety.  It still is minty from the firewall back

The TRUE Euro VIN for this vehicle is WDB12604412000356. eBay will not accept this actual Euro-VIN so I inputted a VIN from a 1988 US-spec 560SEC to complete the listing.

Please check my 100% feedback and bid with confidence.  Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have via eBay, email or you can call me at 818-749-7764

2015 Mercedes-AMG G65 Review

Thu, Jun 25 2015

A German friend who lives in Munich told me she might have to retrieve her car from Innsbruck, Austria while I was in Germany to visit her. I said I'd be happy to chauffeur her to the Tyrol in a Mercedes-AMG G65. She responded to the offer with this question: "You mean – in the G65 Rap Train?" I had no idea what it meant, but the name stuck. Her reasoning was that I would be taken for an American rapper, because what other black American would be cruising south, East, and west Germany for ten days in a 272,000-euro, 5,676-pound chunk of... well, let's just say it: bling. Mercedes created the G65 by installing its 604 horsepower, 6.0-liter, twin-turbo V12 in the G-Class engine bay, and laying oodles of quilted leather inside the cabin. Introduced to markets outside the US in 2012, it sat above the twin-turbo, V8-powered G63 that remained the top-of-the-line here. After years of denial, US buyers will finally get their chance to buy the G65 in November for $217,900. It's a 272,000-euro, 5,676-pound chunk of... well, let's just say it: bling. A grandiose, body-on-frame SUV with a price as momentous as its horsepower might appear silly, but Mercedes can point to plenty of good reasons to bring it here now. In the abstract there's customer demand, AMG boss Tobias Moers having said, "There are AMG fans for whom our V12 biturbo engine is the measure of all things." Concrete justification is in the sales numbers: in May 2010 the G-Class sold 99 units in the US on its way to 919 units for the year. In May 2015 US buyers took home 302 G-Classes, and only five months into this year the brand has sold 1,448 of its ultimate off-roader. The G63 outsold the less expensive G550 in the US in both 2013 and 2014. In 2013 the G63 was the best-selling AMG product in the US, and the G lineup posted its best-ever sales year globally during what was its 35th year on the market. Competitive reasons are likewise substantial. The Bentley Bentayga, Range Rover Sport SVR, Lamborghini Urus, and a Rolls-Royce "that can cross any terrain" will soon join the retail celebration of six-figure SUVs. By getting the G65 here first, Mercedes gets the head start. The burble dripping from the quad pipes is quieter on G65 than the G63. In spite of its price, the Rap Train isn't ostentatious – the sample I was given to drive wearing a beautiful coat of muted satin gray. Because Mercedes is going for a more elegant look for the top of the line G-Wagen, the US-market G65 comes without bull bars.

Drive visits a Mercedes Pagoda collector in Bangkok

Tue, Aug 4 2015

The term "icon" gets thrown around a lot, but if there was ever an automobile that deserved the honorific, certainly the Mercedes SL is one of them. Now in its sixth generation, the SL has been the prototypical German roadster since the 1950s. A sports car with that long a history will inevitably attract a great many collectors, but with values of first-generation 300 SLs and 190 SLs skyrocketing, those enthusiasts without bottomless pockets are turning in growing numbers to the second generation. Known as the Pagoda due to the design of its removable hardtop, the W113-generation SL arrived in 1963 and stayed in production until 1971. By that point Mercedes had built nearly 50,000 of them, selling over 19,000 of those in the United States alone. Through three engine variants – dubbed 230, 250 and 250 SL – and numerous body-styles, all featured an inline-six, transmitting to the road through manual or automatic transmissions with four or five gears. More of a cruiser, then, that an outright sports car, but one that warrants its place in the history of the automobile. In this latest episode, Drive travels to Bangkok to profile a local enthusiast and collector. That's a rather difficult undertaking in Thailand, where it's illegal to import old cars, but Sittisan Quan Sundaravej rises to the challenge, locating classics together with like-minded local enthusiasts. The heart of his collection, though, isn't one he acquired, but rather inherited from his late father. That's the kind of provenance you can't buy.
