1991 Mercedes-benz 560sel Base Sedan 4-door 5.6l - 34.7 K Actual Miles on 2040-cars

1991 Mercedes Benz 560SEL. Extremely low miles (34,770 - may be a smidge higher; I am driving it 2-4x a week).
The Very Good: This car has extremely low and definitely actual miles. It is in amazing shape, except the paint's a bit tired. Interior is like new. Car runs and drives like a near new SEL should. Tracks straight. Drives great. Wood and leather are the BEST I've ever seen in a Benz this vintage. But for the off-color passenger side airbag dash plastic piece (see pics), you'd never know it had been in an accident from inside. Ice cold A/C (updated to take new freon). Heated, power reclining seats in front AND rear; all work great. Except as listed below, all options work so far as I know. Rear self-leveling suspension works as it should; recent gas spheres in rear and new front OEM spec shocks. Interior is in like-new condition; you'd never know it had been wrecked. No rips or tears. No fading (there is some foot wear to driver's side floor mat; rear carpeted footrest triangles are like new and all other apparent fading of carpet and seats in a few pix is from the light outside or from a flash -- interior is primo; looks like a 34k mile Benz would've looked in 1993). Has one or two minor, hairline cracks in the surface glazing on the wood (not the wood) by gearshift; no deep or even really visible cracks. Wood looks like new unless you get close enough to see those and even so it looks fine. It's still the best wood set I've ever seen in a W126. The Bad: It was in an accident about 2 years ago at about 17k miles. As happens all too easily with older cars, it was "totaled" by the insurance company. So, it has accident history in the history on Autocheck or CarFax. It was repaired; and inspected by the Maryland State Police, which is required when a cars is bought from an insurance auction and rebuilt. It currently has a clear Maryland title (at least, I don't see any brand on the title) and is registered, tagged and driven in Maryland. I bought it last year, thinking I'd use it for parts for my '89 (which has 55k miles and which is also F/S). But, I quickly realized it is an excellent example of this car. So, I sorted out a few odds and ends that bothered me (including taking of hideous after market rims and putting on four OEM rims specific to the model with new tires; and have driven it, alternating with my '89). I've kept it covered when not in use to keep the interior nice. Car had like 17 k miles when it was in the accident. Accident was a right front hit. Airbag appears to have deployed. Passenger airbag cover was replaced with off color piece. About 10" of the frame in front of the wheel on the right side was cut out and replaced with a new piece (see pic). Car is straight (see pics). Drives straight. Radiator support was reused and is not perfect, so front pieces don't have OEM alignment. This could easily be fixed with a fresh radiator core support and some basic competent panel alignment, IMO. It could use a respray anyway. Things Not Working: -SRS light on. I doubt both airbags are present, but I don't know. -Radio does not work BUT tape deck does. I use it with a tape deck adaptor and my iPhone. Sounds great. Just doesn't get radio stations in. IDK why. -Locks don't work in sync anymore. I think my son borrowed it and his GF did not know about Benz locks. It should be a simple fix. It did work when I got the car and only stopped recently. Individual doors lock as they should etc. -Brights (headlight brights setting) do not work. Fog setting works fine. -May be other odds & ends that don't work right, but that's all I've noticed. Everything else I've used works great. And, I've used all the options I know about so I'm pretty sure all the rest works. This is an extremely low mileage excellent condition example of this car. The accident was on the Eastern Shore of Maryland; so, I think it was garage kept at some elderly person's beach house before the wreck. That's the only explanation I can think of for the miles, age, location of the accident and the fact that, based on the condition of the interior (wood/leather), there is no way this car spent any significant part of its life stored outdoors/uncovered. Interior is in FAR better shape than my '89 with 55k miles that was not always stored indoors, and that car is in excellent shape in side for a 25 year old car. Car has a reasonable reserve (under $7,000). Reserve is far less than what I have in purchasing and sorting it. I will not sell it for less. TERMS: Car is sold "as is" where is with no warranties express or implied. I am a lawyer & car enthusiast, not a dealer and not a mechanic. Buyers are urged to come see it in person and I will arrange test drives for anyone who wants one; also, I have 10 cars and my own lift (and a mechanic who works for me 3 days a month). So, at my house, the car can be put up and inspected by prospective buyers (or I will allow your mechanic to look it over at your expense). I reserve the right to end the auction early and advertise & sell the vehicle locally at any time. $1,000 deposit due within 24 hours of auction close. PayPal may be used for deposit, at buyer's expense on the fees. Payment for balance due in cash or a bank check payable and cashed by me before car / title will be released. |

Best 3rd Row SUVs of 2024
Wed, Oct 19 2022If you plan on using a vehicle's third row a lot, let us at least make the suggestion that a minivan would be a smarter bet than anything you're going to see on this list of best three-row SUVs. Their third rows are bigger, more comfortable and easier to get to. The kids will definitely be happier. Here are our two top choices. OK, now that that's out of the way, we totally get why minivans are totally depressing and that if the kids want to be happier, they can buy their own darn vehicle. You're buying, you're driving, you're being seen in it and you'd rather have a three-row SUV. Fair enough. Luckily, there are more choices than ever and they're really good. The best do a particularly good job of being family friendly without looking like a drab transportation appliance, although really, you can't go wrong with any of the mainstream three-row SUVs. Now, some of the luxury choices are a bit suspect, including those that are otherwise very appealing but have cramped third-row seats (the Genesis GV80 comes to mind). We're focusing on three-row SUVs here, so having a usable third row is a must. In this list, we have broken things down into four sub-categories: Best Three-Row Crossover | Best Full-size Three-Row SUV Best Luxury Three-Row SUV | Best Flagship Luxury Three-Row SUV Note that we define crossovers as SUVs since most buyers use the terms interchangeably, but acknowledge that "crossover" is literally a vehicle with a car-like unibody structure as opposed to the truck-like, body-on-frame construction that traditionally has defined "SUV." In other words, we consider all crossovers SUVs, but not all SUVs are crossovers (specifically those in the full-size segment and some in the flagship luxury segment). Best Three-Row Crossover SUVs of 2024 2024 Honda Pilot Why it stands out: Exceptional storage and cargo space; unique second-row functionality; refined ride; versatile and capable TrailSport; advanced AWDCould be better: Subpar acceleration with lackadaisical transmission and engine response; so-so driver assistance tech Read our full 2024 Honda Pilot Review The Honda Pilot was completely redesigned for 2023. It maintains its predecessor's family friendly packaging and overall focus, but it has injected a welcome sense of style (especially in the TrailSport pictured above) that makes it stand out much better from the big crossover crowd.
Recharge Wrap-up: Porsche 911 hybrid possible, Ecocruise EVs coming soon
Thu, Oct 9 2014The next-generation Porsche 911 could use hybrid power, according to Porsche CEO Matthias Muller. "There is no reason against it and we will see if we have some reasons to do it," Muller says of the model due around 2018. He also suggests that hybrid technology could eventually make its way into all Porsche model lines, but that the Boxster and Cayman would first get four-cylinder versions. Muller cites carbon emissions and "sportiness" as reasons to use hybrid power, pointing to the 918 Spyder as a good example of both. Read more at Car Advice. A B-Class F-Cell from the Mercedes-Benz fleet has hit a benchmark of 300,000 kilometers (about 186,411 miles) in everyday use. The achievement won Daimler an "f-cell award" for hydrogen fuel cell technology and innovation. The 300+ fuel cell cars in the Daimler fleet have driven a collective 9 million-plus kilometers (more than 5.5 million miles). The information gathered from this testing is being used to improve development as the company looks toward expanding commercialization of fuel cell cars. "We have clearly demonstrated that the fuel cell electric drive is ready for the road," says Professor Herbert Kohler of Daimler. "The last hurdles we will overcome in intensive cross-industry and cross-border teamwork." Read more in the press release below. A company called Ecocruise has new EVs coming out soon. Along with electric scooters and service vehicles, Ecocruise develops street-legal neighborhood electric vehicles like the three-wheeled EZip-3, the four-wheeled EZip-4, and the fun looking Cruser Sport (see a prototype in the video below). The EVs are scheduled to go on sale in January of 2015, which is right around the corner. Ecocruise was started after the founder of Kasea Motorsports decided to switch to electric vehicles with the goal of offering providing affordable emissions-free driving. Learn more about Ecocruise and its vehicles at the company's website. The new EU Fuel Quality Directive (FQD) does little to discourage dirty fuels like tar sands and coal-to-liquid, says Transport & Environment (T&E). The FQD requires suppliers to reduce greenhouse gas intensity for transport fuel in the EU by six percent by 2020. The much-delayed FQD doesn't do as much as it could, though, say critics, and it doesn't label dirtier fuel sources as such despite the urging of scientists. T&E, an organization focused on cleaning up EU transport, blames Canada, the US and Big Oil.
YouTube viewers prefer BMW
Fri, Sep 11 2015BMW owners sometimes get a bad rap as being snobbish, rude drivers, but according to a new study by the online marketing company ZEFR, Bimmer aficionados also have a close relationship with the brand's vehicles. With well over 4 billion YouTube views, the German automaker is the industry's king of the road online. Making the popularity even sweeter for marketers, 95 percent of those clicks are for fan videos, which represents loads of free advertising. BMW isn't the only automaker with such an extensive following. Honda comes in a close second with around 4 billion views, and Mercedes-Benz is just a little behind it. Among all brands, it's the norm for fan-made videos rather than the official ones to get the lion's share of the clicks, generally 95 percent or more. "YouTube has become a treasure trove for connecting with the right people for automakers," Dave Rosner, ZEFR marketing boss, said to Automotive News. Beyond just a popularity contest among brands, automotive videos are big business on YouTube, according to ZEFR's research. Enthusiasts are leading the way, too. Racing is by far the most-watched category with 895,000 clips generating a staggering 8.2 billion views. Classic cars are also a very hot topic with 305,000 videos getting 1.6 billion clicks. Surprisingly, when it comes to watching auto videos, sedans are most popular on YouTube with over 9 billion views, according to Automotive News. Meanwhile, SUVs, performance vehicles, and pickups were each around 3 billion or less. You can check out the full study for yourself, as a PDF, here. Related Video:
