For your consideration, the last of the true German made luxury classics. The flag ship for the 1991 model year is considered by collectors to be the finest example of Mercedes engineering and refinement. After 1991 these cars were made either here in America or in Canada.  This was the very last year they were built in  Germany.

This 22 year old beauty has been lovingly maintained over the years and has averaged less than 5,000 miles a year over her life time.  She is one of,  (if not they) nicest 560 SEL's on the East Coast.  Included is the original window sticker and every single maintenance record dating back to the original purchase. The car is from Las Vegas (originally purchased from Fletcher Jones Imports, Las Vegas NV).  She has only been in the Philadelphia area for 2 years, always garage kept.  Runs great, drives very smoothly, perfect daily driver for the discerning individual who desires the status and luxury that comes from only the finest Mercedes Benz ever built.

EVERY THING works on this car as it should.  When I purchased her in Feb of 2013 I had her completely gone over by a Mercedes factory authorized master mechanic and fixed or replaced any and all issues that can sometimes problematic after 20 years.  I purchased this same model new in 1991 and drove it for over 250K miles before parting with her and it was one of few cars I have every regretted parting with.  This one was bought with the full intention of driving her and keeping her for many more years.  My ONLY reason for selling her is that I am now restoring two classic cars for my own private collection and will not have the garage space for her over the winter. I can't stand the idea of her sitting outside.  So it is time for some one else to enjoy her comforts.

Work recently completed:
- Rear leveling system replaced ($4000 worth of part and labor)
- New Shocks
- Brakes replaced
- Fan Motor Clutch
- New fuel tank (old tank had a pin hole leak and did not want to just patch it)
- New injectors  (yes she is a full injected V-8...that's what the "E" in SEL stands for).
- New Heater Core (heat and air blow hot in winter, icy cold in summer).
- Transmission completely rebuilt like new
- Complete tune up with Spark plugs, wires and rotor and distributor replaced
- New battery
- New dark window tinting (PA legal).
- Professionally detailed every 2 weeks.  Paint is original and in VERY good shape.
- Pennsylvania inspection (safety + emissions) good through December of 2013

The one and only "flaw" in the car is a minor tear in the window pillar vinyl.  A common problem for this make and year and can easily be repaired by an upholsterer.  I have included a photo of this.
This was a sentimental restoration for me and I know that I have more in her than she will sell for (almost $12K).  My reserve is set at just over 1/2 that amount and she is worth every penny of that.  I have listed her on EBAY twice before and every one is looking to steal this car for $3500-$4000.  That's not going to happen.  Hemmings Motor news recently had an article on this year,,make and model stating "the 1991 Mercedes 560 SEL is the epitome of classic Mercedes Benz style, prestige, comfort and luxury".  "True  collectors have missed out on the potential of the finest example of flag ship engineering that Mercedes has produced in over 50 year".  The car's value has stayed constant over the last 5 year but will only increase in years to come.

Buyers must have a current Pay-Pal account and will be responsible for a $500 deposit with in 48 hours of the end of bidding.  The rest will be due as either a bank check or wire transfer on time of pick up or delivery.   I am more than happy assist in finding a reputable shipper (I have shipped many cars over the last 20 years) , BUT shipping costs will be solely on the buyer.
I do have the car listed locally and reserve the right to end this auction at any time. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have either via email or call 484-639-2717.

Enjoy the bidding, and more important enjoy the car.  Thank you

On Oct-22-13 at 19:44:28 PDT, seller added the following information:

I've received several emails letting me know of a mistake in this listing regarding the exterior color of this vehicle. The correct color of the car is indeed white, as shown in the picture. I apologize for the mistake of listing it as black at the top of the listing in the description part of the listing. Once again, the vehicle is WHITE with gray interior.

Mercedes-Benz engines with 48-volt systems coming in 2017

Tue, Jun 14 2016

As part of a big green push announced yesterday, Mercedes-Benz is jumping into the world of 48-volt power. The company will launch a new family of efficient gasoline engines next year and will begin rolling out 48-volt systems with it, likely in its more expensive cars first. Mercedes will use the 48-volt systems to power mild-hybrid functions like energy recuperation (commonly called brake regeneration), engine stop-start, electric boost, and even moving a car from a stop on electric power alone. These features will be enabled through either an integrated starter-generator (Mercedes abbreviates it ISG) or a belt-driven generator (RSG). (RSG is from the German word for belt-driven generator, Riemenstartergeneratoren. That's your language lesson for the day.) Mercedes didn't offer many other details on the new family of engines. There are 48-volt systems already in production; Audi's three-compressor SQ7 engine uses an electric supercharger run by a 48-volt system, and there's a new SQ5 diesel on the horizon that will use a similar setup with the medium-voltage system. Electric superchargers require a lot of juice, which can be fed by either a supercapacitor or batteries in a 48-volt system. Why 48-volt Matters: Current hybrid and battery-electric vehicles make use of very high voltages in their batteries, motors, and the wiring that connects them, usually around 200 to 600 volts. The high voltage gives them enough power to move a big vehicle, but it also creates safety issues. The way to mitigate those safety issues is with added equipment, and that increases both cost and weight. You can see where this is going. By switching to a 48-volt system, the high-voltage issues go away and the electrical architecture benefits from four times the voltage of a normal vehicle system and uses the same current, providing four times the power. The electrical architecture will cost more than a 12-volt system but less than the complex and more dangerous systems in current electrified vehicles. The added cost makes sense now because automakers are running out of ways to wisely spend money for efficiency gains. Cars can retain a cheaper 12-volt battery for lower-power accessories and run the high-draw systems on the 48-volt circuit. The industry is moving toward 48-volt power, with the SAE working on a standard for the systems and Delphi claiming a 10-percent increase in fuel economy for cars that make the switch.

One year since accident, most of Schumacher's sponsors still on board

Mon, Dec 29 2014

It's been almost exactly a year now since Michael Schumacher suffered massive head trauma in a catastrophic skiing accident in Switzerland, and while details on his recovery have remained few and far between, we're sure his progress has been anything but easy. Meanwhile his sponsors have faced a difficult decision of their own: to continue supporting him financially despite getting nothing tangible in return, or cancel their contracts and suffer the blow to their public image as a result. According to Schumacher's longtime manager Sabine Kehm in speaking to news outlets like Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport, most of the imperiled former F1 driver's personal sponsors have remained by his side. The encouraging news updates on what we reported back in August, that Mercedes-Benz and German investment firm Deutsche Vermogensberatung AG were sticking with the champ through the hard times. Other sponsors, including helmet manufacturer Schuberth and watchmaker Audemars Piguet, are also believed to still be on board. Not all of Schumi's sponsors have stuck around, though. German bottled water brand Rosbacher reportedly broke off its contract with Schumacher back in July. And more recent reports confirm that Gaydoul Group fashion labels Navyboot and Jet Set canceled their sponsorship deal earlier this month. These and other contracts made Schumacher one of the world's highest paid sports figures and the first billionaire athlete in the world. Even in retirement, he was still making more than most active F1 drivers. While we don't know just how much he's pulling in during his recovery, here's hoping that his continued sponsors can find a way to make their support worthwhile – and that the champ makes a full recovery in the near future.

Mercedes reveals F 015 Luxury in Motion concept at CES [w/videos]

Tue, Jan 6 2015

Whatever you think of the idea, autonomous vehicles are emerging as the way of the future in the automotive industry, and Mercedes is showing its vision for that driverless destiny with the F 015 concept at CES this week. Billed as Luxury in Motion, the F 015 first popped onto our radar back in October when it was snapped under wraps and then again when the German automaker released the first teaser image previewing its silhouette, but has now taken center stage at the electronics expo in Las Vegas. So what is it exactly, you ask? Well, aside from being entirely autonomous – bringing together a suite of advanced technologies to take the driver out of the equation – it's also big. It's marginally larger than an S-Class, in fact, and with a more spacious one-box form that turns the cabin into a rolling living room. That's where you'll find four individual bucket seats that swivel towards each other, and pivot towards the giant doors for ease of ingress and egress. The doors open a full 90 degrees and the back ones swing suicide-style like on a Rolls-Royce, but without a B-pillar to get in the way. An array of six display screens turn the cabin – clad in wood, aluminum, glass and leather – into an all-enveloping "digital arena," with gesture-based controls, touch-sensitive screens and eye-tracking technology. Made of carbon fiber, aluminum and high-strength steel, the concept is some 40-percent lighter than a conventional automobile of its size. And while Mercedes isn't saying exactly what would provide the motivation (and to what effect), it does state that "the bodyshell of the F 015 Luxury in Motion was designed to allow the impact-protected integration of an electric drive system with fuel cell." The concept follows the debut of the Future Truck 2025 concept big-rig at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hannover a few months ago, and is earmarked to make transportation through and between the world's growing cities a smoother, safer and less human-intensive ordeal. Whether that's the kind of future you want to live in is another matter, but you can scope it out in the videos and press release below and in the extensive gallery of images above for a closer look.
