1977 Mercedes 450 Sel 6.9 on 2040-cars
Chico, California, United States
|
This beautiful rare 6.9 liter 250hp black sedan is one of 462 models sold in the US and the 1st year this car was offered in America. Only 1816 were sold between 1977 and 1980. It was ranked the top Luxury and Muscle car of its time. Dubbed the Presidents car by its fully loaded standard features. Everything appears to work and look great. There appears to be a flaw in the paint on the trunk and a missing 3" trim piece on the rear fender. I'm not sure if the Wheels are original but they are pretty slick non the less.
(2) quotes from Car and Driver in 1977. About the car in general: "This may be the car that Daimler-Benz has been working toward for 30 years, the culmination of all that pioneering experience with things like fuel injection, independent rear suspension, crashworthy structures, aerodynamics and -- last but not least -- racing. It is curiously appropriate that the people at Stuttgart-Untert?rkheim should introduce this particular car at this particular time. The 6.9 is like an exclamation point on the story of an entire automotive era, perhaps the last great, fast sedan to be offered the public as we enter the puritan confines of the energy crunch." About the engine and power: "How
does it all work? Superbly. The 6.9 feels more nimble, more agile than any
other Mercedes we can remember. The new suspension, combined with the extra
power of the 417-cubic inch engine makes it possible to toss the big sedan
around like a bug-eye Sprite. It accelerates 0-60 in a little over seven
seconds and has a top speed of nearly 140 mph. It is rock-solid and practically
silent on the road, at any speed, and the engine's mid-range performance makes
serious high-speed mountain driving a positive joy." I'm not a Mercedes person so to speak or a collector of classics. I'm a recipient of a gift from a family member who is no longer with us. I can however see that this is a fine machine and I'm hoping to find it a good home with someone who will appreciate the rare and special nature of the this car and its history. |

Mercedes Alabama ops ordered to allow workers to discuss unionization
Wed, Dec 3 2014A decision last week by the National Labor Relations Board has bolstered the efforts of the United Auto Workers at Mercedes-Benz's Tuscaloosa, AL factory, as the union continues its attempts to represent the factory's workers. According to Reuters, the NLRB ruled that Mercedes-Benz US International, the proper name of the company behind the Tuscaloosa factory, can no longer prevent workers from discussing unionization in work areas while off the clock. While MBUSI maintains that it's not taking a side on unionization and that it wants the "the decision left to our team members," the UAW is still arguing that the US facility should take the same position on unions that the rest the world's Mercedes-Benz plants take and. Speaking to Reuters, the UAW says that stance "acknowledges the human right to form trade unions" and "respects the right of collective bargaining." According to Reuters, the Alabama factory employs 3,500 workers – 2,500 full time and 1,000 "temporary" – and is the only Daimler-owned factory on the planet not to offer employees the opportunity for representation. Presently, the Tuscaloosa facility assembles Mercedes' C-Class, GL-Class and M-Class vehicles.
Aston Martin signs Letter of Intent for technical partnership with AMG
Thu, 25 Jul 2013A little over two months ago came reports that Daimler and Aston Martin were in talks, again, about "supply and technical-cooperation agreements." The next step has been taken with Aston Martin announcing that it has signed a Letter of Intent that looks "towards a technical partnership" with Mercedes-AMG GmbH, and the two companies aiming to have definitive agreements done by year's end.
While it will get to use certain electric and electronic components from AMG, the true golden egg for the maker of the Vanquish will be the ability to develop a new line of "bespoke V8 powertrains" that will be fitted to "a new generation of models." In return for opening up the larder, Daimler will get a non-voting stake of up to five percent of Aston Martin.
Nothing else is being said about the tie-up for the moment, but there's a press release below with a few more details.
New Mercedes E-Class nearly exposed, may be Maybach
Mon, Sep 14 2015The all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is marching closer and closer to production, with a new round of spy photos giving us our best look yet at the S-Class-inspired looks of the German brand's executive luxury car. There really is very little camouflage this time around – what's there looks more like the kind of plastic wrapping you'd see on a freshly imported vehicle at the port. In front, we can see the new E will wear similar LED accents to the S- and C-Class. The E-Class' big and little brothers also inspired the tail of the new model, where we can see slightly disguised, vertically oriented LED taillights. Prominent, enclosed exhausts are very similar to what we saw in our spy shots of the Mercedes-Maybach E-Class. Aside from the exhausts, this particular car also wears the same blingy wheels as the range-topping tester we spied last August. The thick-rimmed, multi-spoke design isn't the only giveaway to this car's luxurious intentions, though. Our last Maybach sighting showed a car completely covered in camo, making it difficult to tell just how large the rear doors are relative to the car we're seeing today. Instead of the doors, though, we suggest you look at the windows. Like the August spy photos, this prototype features tinted rear glass, which could perhaps indicate that we're looking at yet another example the second Mercedes-Maybach model. So is this yet another Maybach E-Class? We're leaning towards yes. The size of the back doors – and the rear quarter window, in particular – is close enough to what we saw last month, and the presence of tinted glass, the same exhausts, and the same wheels can't be discounted either.
