Up for sale is my 1985 Mercedes-Benz 300D Turbo California version. This car is a pleasure to drive and turns head. It’s classy.

To start out, here is a list of what’s been replaced or serviced recently:

New inline and canister fuel filters installed. (Replaced yearly by previous owner as well.)
Fuel system purged.
New air filter.
New hose connecting air filter housing to the turbo.
New oil filter and oil. (Running 15w-40 currently, changed often, a huge key to a happy diesel!)
New front motor mounts.
New Rack Dampening Bolt
Newer power steering gearbox. (The old one leaked like a sieve so I found a pristine one in a local car and swapped them out. It’s been a dream ever since. There is now ATF fluid in the system.)
New oil cap and gasket.
New oil pan bolt.
Brakes were serviced within the last year. They feel good and strong.
The Blower Motor (auxillary fan) was replaced by the previous owner. I don’t know what this does; I just know it got replaced.
An engine block heater was installed to improve cold starts. In a cold climate this is an absolute necessity. Diesel’s are happier warm. This morning I plugged in the car at 8am and the car started easily at 9:30am after I cycled the glow plugs twice, in 22F temperature.
The rear drive axle and front control arms have been replaced. I consider this to be one of the most appealing aspects of this car. The drive axle apparently can be costly and it’s nice to have a newer one under there.
Transmission was serviced last spring and shifts well.
New glow plugs were installed last spring.
A new ignition tumbler was installed by Mercedes-Benz last year.
Many vacuum lines and fittings have been replaced upon inspection when I found cracks or seeming weakness. The car wasn’t shutting off for about 4 seconds after I turned the ignition off, so I went through the routine testing of the vacuum system and found the vacuum pump to be strong, and the shut-off control to be strong, but a few fittings along the way were cracked and hidden by duct tape. Yeah, duct tape, bleh. Anyways, I've replaced bad fittings and lines and all is well.

The body is in great shape for the year. It has some normal dings and scratches that you will find on a 28-year-old car, but is largely in good condition unless you’re inspecting it with a magnifying glass. The car was repainted black sometime before I bought it, and there is no rust on the car, which is quite rare with the exception of a half-dollar size scrape near the rear passenger tire. (pictured below) I bought this car from a guy in Minnesota that had driven it up from Phoenix, AZ about 4 years ago. Papers in the glove compartment indicate to me that the car has spent its life in Southern California, Arizona, then that stint in Minnesota. The man I bought it from kept it in a garage, and this was not his daily driver. Fortunately he was very uptight about road salts and the like, and didn’t take the car out in harsh winter conditions often. I’ve since drove the car to Utah where I live and the car is in a carport right now. It's also my secondary vehicle so I'm not taking it out right now, just starting it weekly for a run around town for errands. The underside of the car show that this car has spent most of its life in the desert. This car has seen minimal winter driving and it shows. There is dark tint on the car’s rear windows, and on the upper quarter of the windshield that looks really sharp! The glass is clear and doesn’t have chips.
You’ll also note that the amber fog lights have been replaced with a white bulb. These are upgraded conversion headlights and fog lights lamps, which make changing bulbs easier and they look better. An extra set of lights, as well as the housings that case the lights, came with the car and are in the trunk should you desire to switch it up.
The locks are manual and function well. There is a key for the ignition as well as service keys to lock the glove box and trunk if the car were valeted. The driver’s side door handle is a little loose. I have an extra on hand, but it hasn’t been a priority to swap since I can make this one work well for the moment and save a take-apart of the door panel. All lights, blinkers, reverse lights etc. work. The emergency brake works.

The tires have about 70% tread left on them, except the front right tire which is brand new. The car wobbled at 60-65mph and replacing the tire solved that. I would replace more, but I'm poor, hence the unfortunate sale of this lovely vehicle. I used my GPS to estimate fuel economy from one gas station to the next on the trip to UT; I found that I managed about 27mpg along the way. It’s harder to estimate what I’ve averaged here in town, but it seems like it’s not far behind my highway average. A full size spare, jack, and lug wrench is included with the vehicle. It’s properly inflated should you experience a flat.

Interior and Accessories: All the power windows as well as the power sunroof work great. All the speakers have been upgraded, along with the stereo, and are in great working condition. The stereo also has IPod (3.5mm stereo jack) and USB hookups. When you close the doors you’ll notice a tight seal, no "wind whistling"! When you close the door you feel like you’re in a little luxury tank, with leather. The interior is in really nice shape. There is some cracking in the seats, but no holes or tears in the seats/leather. The headliner has some pockmarks in it and some wear around the sunroof opening. There is a black plastic dash cover installed that fits well and looks like the actual dash. This was there when I bought the car, so I'm not sure what the condition is underneath. There are no noticeable stains on any of the carpet (It’s black!) within the vehicle, and the wood trim is in decent shape, with only a couple of flaws/chips. Specifically there is horizontal cracking on the center panel wood and one spot that’s chipped away in the bottom left corner of the panel closest to the driver’s seat. The seats feel good in a squooshy old-school way. I was very comfortable on my 1400 mile drive back here if that tells you anything. My friends always remark on the comfort of the seats. The front seats are manually adjustable 6 ways. As with most of these cars, the odometer, trip odometer and tachometer are dead. The odometer reads 130,000 or so miles. The previous owner estimates an additional 30,000 miles of driving. I have added about two thousand miles. I realize 165,000 miles may seem low, but when I really look through this car, it does seem in good enough condition to have this low of mileage. The fuel, temperature and oil pressure gauges all function properly and reflect a motor that is doing well. The heater works, the A/C does not. The vacuum lines that control the A/C have been clipped out of the vacuum system. The previous owner stated that the compressor went out on the air conditioning. He included one in the sale when I bought the car, which I have and will be included with the car. It just hasn’t been a priority at all to install it. I also believe that the belt that runs the compressor has been removed because there’s no need to ask the motor to turn a bad compressor. The backlighting to the climate control switches is working. One of the two dash lights works. There is an overhead light (new) near the windshield that comes on when the front doors are opened and conversely, an overhead light in the back of the car that comes on when the rear doors are open. They both work on a switch when the door is closed as well. A light also comes on when the trunk is opened.
The heater blows at both its speeds. The defrost works. Cruise control does not.

I’m not an expert but the motor seems to be happy. It warms up quickly and seems smooth. This is my first diesel so I’m not sure if there is too much clatter, but judging by the way it runs I don’t feel alarmed or worried by its sound. Since it's cold here I let the car warm up for 7 or 9 minutes if it's been sitting, and it drives SO well. Absolutely purrs. The windshield wipers work great at all speeds, however, fluid does not spray up on the windshield. I don’t know what the cause of this is, but replacement parts are pretty reasonable if you need this function. I checked the rear axle fluid before I drove it and found the fluid to be clean and up to level.

Extras: You’ll note in the picture of the trunk the following: A gas can with some diesel in it. Two new belts, I don’t know which pulleys they are for, they came with the car. The original MB tool pouch with tools and some extra lug nuts. The A/C compressor is in that white box and a MB canister fuel filter is in the gray box. Then there are the extra fog lights and housings, some speaker connections, a 25ft. ext. cord (convenient if you need to plug the engine block heater in somewhere, a repair manual, some AC recharging canisters, power steering fluid, two diesel fuel additives (one for regular temperatures and one that prevents gelling at colder temperatures), and the better part of a gallon of the current motor oil. Also not pictured is the original stereo, and a CD ROM of the MB Mechanic Service manual (Only works on PCs, or at least I personally couldn’t get it to work on my Apple…), an assortment of specific MB fuses, bulbs, and bulb housings, some extra vacuum lines, and an extra door handle. Maybe there are a few more goodies that I’m not remembering at the moment, but that might cover it.

2015 Mercedes C-Class order guide leaked

We may not have an official starting price for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, but as of right now, we can tell you about all the options for the eagerly anticipated new luxury sedan.
Benz Report has the entire order guide for the C-Class, with breakdowns from package pricing to how many different colors, wheel designs and lighting configurations will be available when the new model hits dealers later this year. As we mentioned in our initial review of the C-Class, there will be a pair of engine options, with the now familiar 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder available in both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations and a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6, which can be had in all-wheel drive, only.
From there, though, the available options are impressive. Much like it does on the current car, Mercedes is offering a pair of packages that sort of define the entire car. With the C300, buyers will have the choice of either a Sport or Luxury package in addition to the base trim, while C400 buyers are limited to the Sport model.
