1991 350SD 126 S Class Diesel

Quality never fades..

I am proud to offer the Ebay community my 521st listing in this forum, an exceptionally nice 1991 Mercedes Benz 350SD. This 350SD is finished in #122M Pearl Grey Metallic with a complimentary dark blue leather interior. This is a two owner vehicle traded here in Memphis, Tennessee. This is a very nice W126 S class Mercedes Benz.

One might ask, "what, preytell is a W126?"

1991 was the last year of the production of the Mercedes-Benz W126 "S" class sedans. This was a final bow to the old ways of hand production sedans. The W126 sedans were produced from 1980 until 1991. The W126 was comprised of a number of different models that shared the same underpinnings and body.

These models were- the 280SE/L, 300SE/L, 380SE/L , 420SEL, 500SE/L, 560SEL, and the diesel 300SD/300SDL/350SDL. The 1986-1991 models were the final evolution of this platform. The most significant changes to this production was that of a newer interior in 1988 .The seats, door panels, and dash differ from earlier models. This 1991 350SD is a very nice example of how well preserved these cars can be when properly maintained.

Because of the high quality materials and workmanship when this car was constructed, this vehicle defies its age. The overall appearance of this vehicle would appear more as a 1-2 year old vehicle would.

MB nomenclature is easily deciphered.. For example-

350SD

3.5 liter inline six engine

S = Superior class

D= Diesel

I have included approximately 25 pictures of this vehicle to my advertisement. If you have a standard dial-up connection it may take a few minutes for all of them to load.I would rather oversupply you with information than to simply post six pictures and three lines of text as most sellers will.

Please be patient, as it will be worth the wait. You may have to hit "reload" on your browser if all of pictures do not display properly. Please scan down the page using your down arrow key...

I am a frequent seller here on Ebaymotors.com .I have a great deal of experience with Mercedes-Benz automobiles. I grew up with them , as both of my parents drove them. I have now bought and sold in excess of 400 of them myself. It is my opinion that the older Mercedes were built to a higher standard than the newer post 1995 models. This is also the opinion of my MB certified mechanic whom I employ to repair my cars and ready them for sale. You just can't find a better car than the old Mercedes Benz models.

Mercedes invented the automobile (Carl Benz 1899) , and they invented the diesel passenger car in 1936. This 350SD represents nearly fifty years of technical refinement.

This vehicle was the absolute best that MB had to offer in 1991. The original window sticker price in 1990 was $62,500 .By the end of production in 1991 the price had risen to a lofty $67,800 .

The 350SDL and the short wheel base 350SD were only offered in model years 1990 and 1991. The 350SDL was offered in later years in the guise of the W140 S Class. The car was later called the 300SD and then renamed as the S350, again, these were in very limited numbers from model years 1990 through the last diesel S class in 1995.

The 1991 350SD is a very rare bird ,in that only 875 were sold in North America in 1991, the final year for the W126 S class body. To find a high grade example twenty four years later presents an opportunity to step back in time...

I have bought and sold more Mercedes Benz vehicles than I care to remember.

When considering a used MB only one thing should be important, condition. Condition dictates the value of the vehicle . Sometimes the year and mileage are irrelevant factors.

If you parked two identical MB's side by side, let's say two 1987 560SLs.

One is a one owner with 75k miles, no previous paintwork , dealer maintained, perfect books and records, new Michelins, no maintenance deferred.

The other car is a four owner car with 75k miles, 2 paint jobs, no books and no verifiable mileage history, errant gold plated emblems, bald tires and the air conditioner is shot.

To a dealer, the first 1987 560SL is worth $12,000. or more wholesale. The second 1987 560SL is worth around $3500-$5000 .

My case in point- This 1991 SD is in EXCELLENT condition. It is well above the average car in EVERY respect. Please consider that this vehicle is a nicer car than most 2010 S550s that I see.

This car will most probably be rather expensive, but please don't ever forget that you get what you pay for. I learned this the hard way.

This is a wonderfully preserved 350SD.

Standard options are as follows- Leather interior, power operated 10 way front seats with memory system for two drivers, power operated sliding steel roof, ABS brakes, Anti-theft system, limited slip differential, SRS airbag.

During its production from 1986 to 1991 the Mercedes W126 S class cars were the highest rated vehicles ever studied by the NHTSA. The W126 is one of the safest cars in the world.

This is a two owner vehicle. The prior owner drove up from Biloxi,MS to my dealership in Memphis,Tn to purchase a 500E from us. From my own observation the prior owner was of Russian decent, and recent to the USA. He was an older gentleman and owning a Mercedes-Benz automobile was a large point of pride with him.

He explained all the features of the automobile with a thick accent while I quietly listened. He poured over all the maintenence and told us that he always changed the oil himself, and always stamped the maintenence booklet. Pride in ownership is very apparent throughout.

One amazing fact is that the dashboard has ZERO cracks, and miraculously the cruise control actually works!

The vehicle never been smoked in, and it was garaged.

From my careful inspection , the vehicle does not appear to have ever had any prior panel replacement, as all of the body panels still bear the original MB decals with the vin#. Also this vehicle is RUST FREE.

The interior of this 350SD is nicer than I have seen in recent years. This is what I would consider a high grade example of the W126, this is not an ordinary , average car, it is in well above average condition. This car is a two owner vehicle that has been in the south for the last thirteen years. The vehicle has always been garaged and is completely rust free. The sun was rather bright when I tried to photograph the interior, and as a consequence the photos are a tad washed, if you look, you will notice a very well preserved interior.

This is a great driving car. The front suspension is exceptionally firm and tight. There is no freeplay in the steering , and the car does not pull when braking, the alignment is crisp and precise. The engine is quiet , and the transmission shifts well and on time. All signs point to this car being able to log another 100k miles with relative ease.

The prior owner was very careful to maintain the car to a very high standard, to the point that he left printed memos all over the car to remind anyone operating it. When the car arrived , he had even affixed curb feelers under the bumpers to keep the wheels from ever being blemished. While this was effective, I had to remove them due to them being unsightly.

This vehicle was owned by a non-smoking owner and has never been smoked in.

All weather Mercedes-Benz mats are a nice touch.

Factory dash has no cracks!

These are the miles as of 3/24/14. Prior owner left us a decal reminder lest we forget!

The power operated sliding steel roof is the largest sunroof availible in a passenger car of the period.

This is the memory system for the front seats. On the driver side, this system memorizes the exact seat position and the power operated telescopic steering column.

The rear seat has tremendous legroom, and you will enjoy being chauffeured around in this stately old car!

The climate control functions flawlessly and the air-conditioning is quite cold.

Original Becker grand-prix cassette has been replaced with a newer Kenwood unit (although the original Becker is still in the trunk).

I have been around this star for my entire life. I grew up with both of my parents driving Mercedes-Benz automobiles. I was driven to school in one. At age 3, I even had the privilege of driving my parents 220SE through the kitchen of our home. I feel quite comfortable with these cars, and you will too!

For those of you that are not familiar with the star, this represents MB's pursuit of excellence on Air, Land and Sea.

The booklets and owners manual and related literature will accompany the car to its new owner. All of the original delivery material is still in place.

The car is still protected by the Mercedes-Benz roadside assistance program. If you ever have difficulties with your MB vehicle, you can simply call 800-4-Mercedes , and MB will send a technician to repair your vehicle roadside, or in your driveway, etc.

Mercedes will give you a jump start, change a flat tire, or provide you with five gallons of fuel, free of charge. Any other services will be priced to you by the technician, in advance. This service is available to any MB owner in the USA or Canada.

The original first aid kit is unmolested.

The trunk detail is quite nice, and appears to have never been used. Carpets are still clean. Spare tire, jack and factory tool kit are present.

Tires are still serviceable and show 45% or better tread remaining.

Here is the vin# for anyone who should need it.

The OM603 in line six diesel engine was the largest displacement diesel offered by MB in the period. The engine produces 134 HP @ 4600 rpm and 201 lb.ft of torque @ 2400 rpm respectively.

The driveline seems to exhibit wonderful manners. No smoke upon heavy excelleration, and it delivers constant smooth power.

No heavy soot and start up is brisk.

Diesels have long been overlooked here in the US, due largely in part to our abundance of cheap gas. Now, with the current situation in the middle-east, and no end in sight to the political climate there, diesel is making a comeback in the US.

Suddenly, people are really interested in a car that can consistently deliver 25+ mpg with ease. Many auto manufactures are clamoring to get back on the diesel band wagon. Diamlerchrysler is releasing a new Jeep Liberty this spring with a four cylinder CDI powerplant, and VW with the help of Bosch has begun to sell TDI vehicles in some impressive volume. MB has begun to once again sell a new diesel in the form of the Blue tec, after being absent from the market since 1999 in the US.

I might mention that as of late, much has been learned about using canola oil in MB diesels. It would appear that you can successfully run your Mercedes diesel on used french fry oil. Yep, that's what I said, used french fry oil. You can get an extra tank for your 350SD and fill her up for free at the local restaurant!

I have a friend here in town who is in the business of modifying old MB's just for this purpose, and he runs everyday on used canola, and reports zero problems (he bought his 300D and 300SD from me). I would be happy to put you in touch with him, should you be curious. Many call this a grease car conversion.

Visit www.greasecar.org for additional details and the experience of others.

Here's a list of MB diesels that have been sucessfully modified for greasecar conversion-

Drive visits a Mercedes Pagoda collector in Bangkok

Tue, Aug 4 2015

The term "icon" gets thrown around a lot, but if there was ever an automobile that deserved the honorific, certainly the Mercedes SL is one of them. Now in its sixth generation, the SL has been the prototypical German roadster since the 1950s. A sports car with that long a history will inevitably attract a great many collectors, but with values of first-generation 300 SLs and 190 SLs skyrocketing, those enthusiasts without bottomless pockets are turning in growing numbers to the second generation. Known as the Pagoda due to the design of its removable hardtop, the W113-generation SL arrived in 1963 and stayed in production until 1971. By that point Mercedes had built nearly 50,000 of them, selling over 19,000 of those in the United States alone. Through three engine variants – dubbed 230, 250 and 250 SL – and numerous body-styles, all featured an inline-six, transmitting to the road through manual or automatic transmissions with four or five gears. More of a cruiser, then, that an outright sports car, but one that warrants its place in the history of the automobile. In this latest episode, Drive travels to Bangkok to profile a local enthusiast and collector. That's a rather difficult undertaking in Thailand, where it's illegal to import old cars, but Sittisan Quan Sundaravej rises to the challenge, locating classics together with like-minded local enthusiasts. The heart of his collection, though, isn't one he acquired, but rather inherited from his late father. That's the kind of provenance you can't buy.

Sunday Drive: A new Rambo Lambo takes center stage

Sun, Dec 10 2017

Surprise! Autoblog readers love fast cars. Doesn't matter what shape; doesn't matter what size. As long as it's got big power, wicked acceleration, and ludicrous speed, you're interested. Take, for instance, the brand-new Lamborghini Urus. It's got a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 sending 641 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels. It hits 62 miles per hour in 3.6 seconds, and has a top speed of 189.5 mph. Ludicrous speed? Check. And although you'd be hard pressed to draw a line straight back from the upcoming Urus to the old, off-road-ready LM002, at least you can say that Lamborghini does have a history of producing overpowered SUVs. A 5.2-liter V12 engine producing 444 horsepower and borrowed from the Countach certainly qualifies as big power, especially considering this was in the 1980s and '90s. A prime example just sold for nearly half a million bucks. Moving along to more traditional sportscars, we got a sneak peek at the next Porsche 911's interior, thanks to some intrepid spy photographers. And we spy with our little eyes some major changes to the quintessential German sportscar. Finally, we round out this Sunday Drive with two First Drive reports. Both are German, but past that, they couldn't be more different. Either way, ludicrous speed is all but guaranteed by either one. As always, stay tuned to Autoblog for all the latest automotive news that's fit to print. Mercedes C-Class Coupe due to go on sale next December

Sat, Dec 6 2014

While we expect to see the coming Mercedes C-Class convertible sometime next year, perhaps at the Paris Motor Show, Auto Motor und Sport reports that the C-Class Coupe will go on sale in December 2015 (probably in Europe first) - it's possible we'll see it debuted at the same time as the cabrio. The German magazine says the two-door will have sharper lines on a body that is four inches longer, almost two inches wider and a fraction of an inch lower than the sedan, dimensional aggrandizement that will be put to good effect on the AMG version coming in 2016. We'll have to wait for information on powertrains, which should hew to the sedan's lineup in addition to whatever else M-B might bring over here, topped off by the 503-horsepower, twin-turbo V8 in the AMG variant. Speaking of which, the 'last-generation' C63 AMG Coupe is still on sale until spring of next year, if you're a fan of the classics. Or you can wait on news of the C-Class four-door coupe, if niches inside of niches are what you're really after.
