Up for sale is a 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300 SD. This is originally from Germany and was imported in 1983, purchased by a corporation. Has 3 service books up to 350000 miles on the car show maintenance and even has the customs record and metal stamp used to get the car here to the US.
I bought the car with just a little less mileage than shown on the odometer. It quit soon after... has been rebuilt once before. I have since added on about 6500 miles. The reason I am selling is that I have too many projects to make this another one. I wanted to murder it out since it's missing the MB emblems and has rough paint... but again, priorities.
Condition of the car:
Paint is worn (common for this year of car).
The engine runs rough when cold, and could be valve timing. I have heard that this is a regular maintenance issue and is relatively easy to do at home, but I am not a mechanic
Engine does not start easily in cold weather.
Engine leaves its mark (leaky seal) and it does eat a bit of oil - Jug of Rotella-T included.
Glowplugs are dead, but I have 5 new ones in box!!
I swapped out the injectors for others from a salvage vehilce with 270,000 miles... it runs a little rougher as they need cleaned out/driven on. Will include the old ones (one leaks and causes a knock)
Interior has some things that are in great shape... Trim on dash (real wood) is warped and hardly attached.
The vinyl around the doors is not tucked as was in factory.
The right rear windows tint is peeling away from window.
There are some stains on carpet.
The dashboard is cracked from sun damage.
Car is well worn.
Car does run, and down the highway, runs great! Hard starts after injector swap especially. Great project car!
Cruise control does NOT work, but all of it is there. It is disconnected from the motor.
Air conditioner does NOT work... needs drained and recharged.
Right rear electric window sometimes will get stuck. Don't know if it's the relay or the motor or electrical connection.
Everything else works pretty good!
Mileage:
Odometer reads 442,275, but it does not work currently. There are about 6,500 more miles on the car than displayed.

All sales are final. Buyer must come to pick the car up, which I will help load on trailer or you can drive!
Thanks and happy bidding!
On Apr-29-13 at 21:02:54 PDT, seller added the following information:
Guages:
Forgot to mention. Tachometer sometimes kicks in, but usually is out. The cable is worn out.
Oil pressure always reads off the chart. Engine has good oil pressure though.
Fuel gauge varies. Sometimes it's right, sometimes it's wrong. The little warning light is ALWAYS RIGHT!

Race recap: 2015 Singapore Grand Prix full of odd sideshows
Mon, Sep 21 2015What greeted the Formula One teams in Singapore? Confusion. The haze was so thick that observers wondered if the race would be held at all. Then practices began, and Mercedes-AMG Petronas driver Nico Rosberg took the first one, but the team fell away after that. Mercedes said it couldn't get the tires turned on, but no one believed the Silver Arrows was in genuine trouble. Then qualifying set the confusion in stone. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel laid down the best time in Q3, taking the team's first pole position since Germany in 2012. Daniel Ricciardo got his Infiniti Red Bull Racing into second, about one tenth behind Vettel. (That may make the team feel better after Ricciardo publicly asked for a better engine than the current Renault unit, and team advisor Helmut Marko said the outfit will quit F1 at the end of this year if it can't get a stronger powerplant for 2016.) Kimi Raikkonen put the second Ferrari in third, Daniil Kvyat put the second Red Bull in fourth. And only then came the Meredes'. Lewis Hamilton's best got him fifth, the Brit saying, "We don't really know what we have got wrong. For some reason the tires are not working on the car. We do the warm-up the same as everyone else and then you see someone one second up the road." For added emphasis on the reversal of fortune, his time was 1.6 seconds behind Vettel's. Teammate Rosberg is next to him in sixth, a further half a second back. Williams is still a hurting a bit on slow tracks, so Valtteri Bottas could only get into seventh ahead of Max Verstappen in the Toro Rosso and teammate Felipe Massa in ninth. When the red lights went out, the 2015 Singapore Grand Prix would get both less interesting and more interesting all the way to the final lap. The men up front got good getaways, and the order into Turn 1 was Vettel, Ricciardo, and Raikkonen. The race finished with those three in that order, never having conceded position. Vettel's Ferrari enjoyed the track so much that he laid a second per lap into Ricciardo for the first five, then relaxed. He'd let the gap come down later in the race a couple of times, but any time he wanted to see what his mirrors looked like without anyone in them he'd take off again. Rosberg took fourth position after holding down sixth for the first stint. It looked like he'd have an even worse day - for a Mercedes driver - when he had problems getting his car started and onto the grid before the race.
One year since accident, most of Schumacher's sponsors still on board
Mon, Dec 29 2014It's been almost exactly a year now since Michael Schumacher suffered massive head trauma in a catastrophic skiing accident in Switzerland, and while details on his recovery have remained few and far between, we're sure his progress has been anything but easy. Meanwhile his sponsors have faced a difficult decision of their own: to continue supporting him financially despite getting nothing tangible in return, or cancel their contracts and suffer the blow to their public image as a result. According to Schumacher's longtime manager Sabine Kehm in speaking to news outlets like Italy's La Gazzetta dello Sport, most of the imperiled former F1 driver's personal sponsors have remained by his side. The encouraging news updates on what we reported back in August, that Mercedes-Benz and German investment firm Deutsche Vermogensberatung AG were sticking with the champ through the hard times. Other sponsors, including helmet manufacturer Schuberth and watchmaker Audemars Piguet, are also believed to still be on board. Not all of Schumi's sponsors have stuck around, though. German bottled water brand Rosbacher reportedly broke off its contract with Schumacher back in July. And more recent reports confirm that Gaydoul Group fashion labels Navyboot and Jet Set canceled their sponsorship deal earlier this month. These and other contracts made Schumacher one of the world's highest paid sports figures and the first billionaire athlete in the world. Even in retirement, he was still making more than most active F1 drivers. While we don't know just how much he's pulling in during his recovery, here's hoping that his continued sponsors can find a way to make their support worthwhile – and that the champ makes a full recovery in the near future.
Mercedes reveals F 015 Luxury in Motion concept at CES [w/videos]
Tue, Jan 6 2015Whatever you think of the idea, autonomous vehicles are emerging as the way of the future in the automotive industry, and Mercedes is showing its vision for that driverless destiny with the F 015 concept at CES this week. Billed as Luxury in Motion, the F 015 first popped onto our radar back in October when it was snapped under wraps and then again when the German automaker released the first teaser image previewing its silhouette, but has now taken center stage at the electronics expo in Las Vegas. So what is it exactly, you ask? Well, aside from being entirely autonomous – bringing together a suite of advanced technologies to take the driver out of the equation – it's also big. It's marginally larger than an S-Class, in fact, and with a more spacious one-box form that turns the cabin into a rolling living room. That's where you'll find four individual bucket seats that swivel towards each other, and pivot towards the giant doors for ease of ingress and egress. The doors open a full 90 degrees and the back ones swing suicide-style like on a Rolls-Royce, but without a B-pillar to get in the way. An array of six display screens turn the cabin – clad in wood, aluminum, glass and leather – into an all-enveloping "digital arena," with gesture-based controls, touch-sensitive screens and eye-tracking technology. Made of carbon fiber, aluminum and high-strength steel, the concept is some 40-percent lighter than a conventional automobile of its size. And while Mercedes isn't saying exactly what would provide the motivation (and to what effect), it does state that "the bodyshell of the F 015 Luxury in Motion was designed to allow the impact-protected integration of an electric drive system with fuel cell." The concept follows the debut of the Future Truck 2025 concept big-rig at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hannover a few months ago, and is earmarked to make transportation through and between the world's growing cities a smoother, safer and less human-intensive ordeal. Whether that's the kind of future you want to live in is another matter, but you can scope it out in the videos and press release below and in the extensive gallery of images above for a closer look.
