This is a diesel sports car. I started making these turbo stick shift Mercedes in 1993. We have made more then a dozen over the years. Usually our only constraint is finding a good clean car to start with. I have recently come up with this clean California car. It has a clean title and no accident history that I can find or see on the car. It was a one main owner for just about 30 years. I bought it from the second owner because it needed some mechanical work. When I saw how clean the car was I decided to do the conversion. When I started working on the car it had about 252k on the car. The turbo engine that I put in had only 108k. I took it out of the donor car. I have done a bunch of regular reconditioning on the car as I did the conversion. Here are some of the things that I did to the car. Upgraded items from a 240 to 300 radiator entire exhaust bigger oil cooler bigger drive shaft coolant expansion tank air cleaner valve cover breather hose rear differential fan and fan clutch Items that where serviced new clutch, pilot bearing, new oil cooler line 4 new belts motor mounts fog light new clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder shift rod bushings transmission service engine oil service new exhaust header pipe(with flexible part) New rear muffler new paint shift boot shift knob both fuel filters new air filter rear axle new ac dryer with all new oil rings and schreder valves air at 65 degrees alignment stabilizer shocks rear trans support mount hazard switch So I have gone all over this car to make it right. With the parts and services listed above if you where to take it into any Mercedes shop you would leave with about a $5000 bill just because of the amount of work that I did to it. That doesn't even take into consideration the upgraded engine with low miles, (engine value is about 3000 with only 108k). When you add the fun factor this car can be a deal. This car makes any commute more enjoyable. A couple of things that I like about using a 240 body is it has the manual climate control that hardly ever gives any trouble. It also has left and right heat controls. You can also put heat on your feet or the windshield and open the center vent for fresh cooler air. The manual crank window regulators rarely go bad. The other cool thing about this car is the interior is not only above average but it is a less common color. Most of the diesels in this era have tan, or blue interiors, some have black or cream. This color is very uncommon and I like it for that reason. You should still expect about the same fuel economy with this car. Usually I get about 25-28 with a 5 cyl turbo diesel. Mercedes previews GLC ahead of June 17 reveal
Mon, Jun 15 2015Mercedes has confirmed that it will unveil its new GLC crossover on June 17, releasing this preview sketch and a few details to give us an idea of what to expect. Set to replace the outgoing GLK, the GLC will slot in between the GLA and GLE (nee M-Class) in the Silver Star automaker's growing sport-ute lineup. Its nameplate shifts to better align with the C-Class sedan and the SLC roadster that's set to replace the SLK. The crossover's design was previewed in slant-back form as the Concept GLC Coupe in Shanghai a couple of months ago, but as you can see from this sketch, it'll initially come with a more conventional roofline. In announcing the livestream of its reveal, Daimler revealed that the GLC will feature a multi-chamber air suspension, Dynamic Select transmission control, and 4Matic all-wheel drive. It also promises to consume 19 percent less fuel than the GLK it replaces. World Premiere Mercedes-Benz GLC With the introduction of the new GLC on June 17th, Mercedes-Benz presents the second generation of its mid-range SUV. The GLC retains its predecessor's outstanding off-road characteristics and combines them with an all-new design. Test drive the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive with Chris Harris
Thu, 11 Apr 2013It's hard to not like the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT. The all-aluminum coupe is fitted with a wonderful naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 delivering 583 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Not only does the burly combustion engine launch the two-seater to 60 miles per hour in less than four seconds, but it does so with one of the world's greatest exhaust soundtracks as it roars, burbles and cackles down the road.
But what happens when Mercedes-Benz takes away the V8 and its accompanying fire-burning song? Stripped of one of its most appealing assets, does the SLS lose its soul?
Chris Harris recently had the opportunity to take the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive for a track spin in Europe. Sans gasoline, but with four electric motors providing a combined 740 horsepower (737 pound-feet of torque), all-electric all-wheel drive coupe uses sophisticated torque vectoring and a multi-mode operating system to put oversteer - drifting! - back into the equation. Autoblog's adventures at the Nurburgring 24-Hour race [spoilers]
Wed, May 20 2015The brand-new Audi R8 LMS, said to share 50 percent of its components with the street-legal R8 shown off at Geneva, has won its very first race at the 2015 Nurburgring 24-Hours. The No. 28 car driven by Christopher Mies, Edward Sandstrom, Nico Muller, and Laurens Vanthoor for the Audi Sport WRT team out of Belgium finished only 40.279 seconds ahead of the No. 25 BMW Sport Team Marc VDS Z4 GT3 in second place, for the smallest winning gap since the race began in 1970. Those two cars traded the lead throughout Sunday morning and were less than a minute away from one another for the last two hours. They were part of a total 35 lead changes during the entire race – a record for the event – and both did 156 laps. Third place went to the No. 44 Falken Tire Porsche 997 GT3, one lap down. The Audis did what they always do: lurked close to the front, stayed out of trouble, then pounced when everyone else faltered. For the opening stretches the BMW Z4 teams owned it, running 1-2-3 for a while, but all of them hit trouble. When morning came and the race got over its yellow-flag fever, the No. 28 Audi was in front and stayed there. It was the third Nurburgring 24-Hour win for Audi in four years, the brand's first win only coming in 2012. Last year's winner, the Phoenix Audi team that set a race record by doing 159 laps, had both of its cars retire. One hit an oil patch about 12 hours in, spun and was hit by another car behind, taking on too much damage to continue. The other retired with engine issues. Other Notes Three cars crashed out of the race while leading, after the rains that weren't supposed to happen, happened about 90 minutes in. The No. 20 Schubert BMW Z4 led the first 50 minutes of the race, hopped a crest at Pflanzgarten, landed in a pool of water, and hit the wall on the 30th lap. Then the No. 30 Frikadelli Porsche, with a driver team that included ex-'Ring Taxi driver Sabine Schmitz, hit the No. 31 Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 on the approach to Carrousel and crashed out. Then the No. 1 Phoenix Audi, last year's winning car, took the lead but hit the wall after that oil patch near Pflanzgarten and was out of the race. Aston Martin celebrated a class win in the SP8 category with the No. 49 Vantage GT4 N430. This being the tenth anniversary of the Vantage running the Nurburgring-24, this year's car was painted in the same colors as the racecar from ten years ago.
