1981 Mercedes-benz 300td Touring - Excellent Condition, Very Clean Car on 2040-cars
Downey, California, United States
|
Selling a 1981 Mercedes-Benz 300TD in fantastic mechanical and cosmetic condition. Starts instantly, runs and drives beautifully. Transmission doesn't shift harshly like on so many other diesel Mercedes of this era, instead it's very smooth. Turbo spools nicely and makes very decent power. Options like Cruise Control and Power Door locks work perfectly. Seats show almost no signs of wear at all, and are soft and supportive, not hardened or faded AT ALL, no sagging springs either. The floor carpet was removed and replaced with rubber mats for durability. Trunk area carpet is still intact and in very good condition. I have the spare tire cover (not pictured) Has one oil stain, that would probably come out with some scrubbing. Blaupunkt Portland stereo installed and working.
Exterior is in very very clean and tidy condition for an original car of this age. Has one small dent above the tail light, and some scratches here and there, but nothing major, and no structural rust AT ALL. Not even the jack points are rusty. Always a California car, spent it's life in Montecito. Rear hydraulic self-leveling suspension works fine, doesn't sag or bounce. Original Hirschmann antenna still works but seems to need a new mast. Still wears it's blue and yellow original CA plates, and Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills license plate frame. Brakes and tires still have a good amount of life left in them. Great reliable car, would not hesitate to drive it cross country. The only issues it has, are that the driver's side window is stuck closed, and the A/C system needs to be recharged (verified, has an R134a retrofit notice sticker). No other issues. Clean title. I do have service records for the car, it has had thousands worth of work done in the last 10 years or so. Please don't hesitate to call me with any questions you might have prior to bidding. Hybrids to slowly replace diesels at Mercedes
Mon, Sep 21 2015German automakers have had some success bringing diesel-powered vehicles in America in recent years, but that may not last much longer. A product planner from Mercedes-Benz we spoke to in Austria apparently believes hybrid setups may be more favorable in the long run, and electrified hybrids will eventually replace oil burners. That's why most every concept car we've seen in the last few years features some sort of hybrid or plug-in hybrid setup while there have been very few diesels. "Yes, diesel is technically complex, and very expensive. The additives to reduce particulate matter are very costly. You'll see more hybrids to meet the changing regulations," according to our source. We've seen this exact scenario play out with Mazda, which has struggled to bring its 2.2-liter diesel engine to America, citing the costly process to reduce emissions in order to meet California-level standards while still maintaining suitable performance for the US market. It's certainly interesting that this news comes hot on the heels of revelations that VW, the automaker that offers the most diesel-powered models in the US, was found in violation of emissions rules on its popular 2.0-liter TDI engine. New Mercedes GLE Will Have An Active Chassis Mercedes has launched an all-out product offensive in the last two years, but the product planning think tanks in Stuttgart have a few surprises in store, too. While Benz has just launched its new GLE SUV family, GLE product planners are already hard at work on the next-generation – yes, a good 5-6 years away – and tell us it will evolve to boast new chassis technology, "something that doesn't exist today." The next-GLE is codenamed 167 – the previous ML (now replaced by the GLE) was internally referred to as 166 – and the GLE planner we recently talked to calls the platform an "active chassis." He further alluded that the next version could be electrified. Currently, the only aspect of the GLE's chassis that is 'active' today are the hydraulic pumps on the roll bars, he said. Many of Mercedes' models can already be had with an adaptive air suspension, multiple selectable driving modes, and other features that were rare or nonexistent just a couple generations ago. One More Compact Crossover On The Way The planner said we can also at least one more all-new, forthcoming compact crossover to be built on the GLA platform. In addition to the GLA, that architecture is currently shared by the A-Class, B-Class, and CLA-Class models.
Mercedes pickup could have Nissan DNA
Fri, Apr 3 2015Daimler and the Renault-Nissan Alliance are already close partners. Now it seems that the upcoming Mercedes-Benz midsize pickup might have a little Nissan DNA in it, too. Or maybe not, depending on how you interpret comments by Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn. "I don't want anybody to think that because they announced a pickup truck, they have to make it with us. Not at all," Ghosn said at the New York Auto Show, according to Automotive News. "They are completely free to do it by themselves, to do it with somebody else, etc., and also, or to do it with us." The Mercedes Vans division is responsible for the truck's development, and the pickup is aimed at the popular global midsize segment against vehicles like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. There's no mention of any plans for the model in North America. Instead, Mercedes wants to focus on Latin America, South Africa, Australia and Europe for a launch slated before 2020. Ghosn was quite clear there was no decision either way as of yet. "Is this something that can eventually be on the table? I told you, everything is on the table between us," he said, according to Automotive News. If the two companies do decide to collaborate on a midsize truck, the timing would seem perfect. Nissan completed development of its NP300 Navara in 2014, and the automaker has been at work at least evaluating powertrains for the next Frontier possibly for 2019. Related Video:
