Probably the greatest "Q Car" of them all !!!

You are looking at what is undoubtedly one of the nicest Mercedes 300 SEL 6.3 saloons available on the market
today.
This beautiful 6.3 has been driven 140,000 miles from new and is in absolutely perfect
running order. It comes with an extensive history file including decades of invoices. Note: Current miles showing
are just over 80,000, although a documented speedometer replacement was carried out 11/12/79 at 59,729 miles. I am
also regularly using the car as it is such fun to drive, so the mileage will increase slightly while the car is
being offered for sale.

This impressive 6.3 is largely original, save for a top quality bare metal repaint performed by marque specialists
Hatch & Sons at a cost of $12,000 in 1990 (invoices in file). The Moss Green paint still looks absolutely beautiful
with only the slightest evidence of age and use. The completely original Cognac interior is in truly remarkable
condition for its age. The leather has a beautiful patina and the cabin has a wonderfully luxurious, gently worn
feel to it.

Recent major service work by a 6.3 specialist included installation of a rebuilt steering box and the complete
overhaul of the air suspension system. The air conditioning system has also been recently serviced and blows cold.
Our Mercedes 6.3 runs and drives beautifully. It has excellent, factory specification compression and oil pressure.
Everything works on this car, including the electric windows, lights, horns, wipers, sunroof - and even the clock,
which keeps perfect time! The heating and cooling controls are in perfect working order, including the often
troublesome heater vent levers which are in perfect condition and operate smoothly.

Compression test results: cold

Right bank # 1 (front) = 142 psi

#2 = 146 psi
#3 = 148 psi
#4 = 148 psi

Left bank # 1 (front) 140 psi

#2 = 147 psi
#3 = 141 psi
#4 = 140 psi

This amazing car cruises effortlessly at very high speed, easily keeping up with modern traffic while wafting along
in imperial style. The factory claimed a 6.3 second 0-60 time and a top speed of 142 MPH. This legendary
performance made the 6.3 the fastest four door sedan in the world for more than two decades, before finally having
that title wrested from its grasp by another S class Mercedes in 1992.

This car is absolutely 100% rust free. It is as dry, straight and rust free a 6.3 as you are ever likely to see.
There is not a grain of rust anywhere beneath the car. The front and rear bumpers were both recently re-chromed and
look beautiful. The doors, bonnet and boot lid all exhibit factory perfect shut lines, and all close with a
resounding clunk that is indicative of the ultra high build quality these cars are famous for. The engine runs
quietly, idles smoothly and pulls like a train.

This is a car that you could fly in and drive home in complete luxury and comfort. In terms of condition, it is at
the upper end of what might be termed a 'very high quality driver'. Although not quite 'show condition', it would
undoubtedly be welcomed at any concours event, whether marque specific or otherwise. It could easily be taken to
the next condition level with a few very minor cosmetic improvements. In terms of mechanical performance, it is
about as good as you are likely to find, at any price.

Note: An original Becker radio is included in the sale. A later model Blaupunkt is currently installed.

F1's Vettel leads, Verstappen and Grosjean crash at Silverstone

Fri, Jul 6 2018

SILVERSTONE, England — Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel pushed Formula One title rival and home race favorite Lewis Hamilton off the top of the British Grand Prix practice timesheets on Friday while Max Verstappen crashed. Hamilton, winner for the past four years at Silverstone, had started the day by leading a Mercedes one-two in the sunny opening session. Vettel, who leads the Briton by a point in the championship after nine races, put in a lap of 1 minute 27.552 seconds in the afternoon to end the session 0.187 faster than his fellow-four-times world champion. That was still slower than Hamilton's morning time of 1:27.487, however, with Vettel third then and half a second slower. Hamilton's Finnish teammate Valtteri Bottas, with a new engine in his car after last weekend's mechanical retirement in Austria, was second and third fastest respectively in the two sessions. Australian Daniel Ricciardo and Kimi Raikkonen traded fourth and fifth places while Max Verstappen, winner in Austria for Red Bull, was sixth in the morning but crashed after lunch without setting a time. The 20-year-old Dutchman had ended the first session early after he was told to stop the car. Haas's Romain Grosjean had a heavy crash at the fast first corner, slamming into the tire barriers after failing to close the drag reduction system (DRS), in the morning and did not take part in practice two. "The car is destroyed," the Frenchman, who was unhurt in the impact, said over the radio. "I'm very, very sorry guys. I think it was the bump. I missed the (DRS) button." Team boss Guenther Steiner said the team needed to rebuild the chassis. Grosjean's team mate Kevin Magnussen and McLaren's Fernando Alonso were called to see stewards for a "potentially dangerous maneuver" after an incident between them early on but stewards ruled there was no further action needed. "Magnussen tried to hit me two times - in one and three," Alonso reported over the radio. "Very dangerous."Reporting by Alan BaldwinRelated Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Recharge Wrap-up: Cool new Euro VI railroader Unimog, Car2go hearts charity

Wed, Aug 6 2014

Mercedes-Benz's mega-cool road-railer Unimog now boasts Euro VI compliance. Used for railroad track maintenance and train shunting work, this diesel-powered Unimog offers about a 90-percent improvement in particulate emissions over the Euro V. The new engine also offers improved efficiency. It provides 231 horsepower, and with eight forward and eight reverse gears, it can travel up to 31 miles per hour in either direction. It also has new in-cabin features that make it easier to use for the driver. Read more about the new road-railer Unimog in the press release below. Carsharing group Car2go has launched a donation feature within its mobile app, called "ride2provide." The feature lets users find "heart cars," which, when used, include a $1 donation to Whole Planet Foundation. The money raised by the ride2provide program goes towards the Whole Planet Foundation's mission of providing microcredit to the poor for creating or expanding home-based businesses. Car2go's ride2provide program started August 4, and runs for 90 days. Learn more in the press release below. China continues to pave the way for more EVs, but some people are still skeptical they'll catch on. Charging station operators will be forgiven some of their electricity fees until 2020, said the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). China has already extended tax exemptions on EVs through 2017. The NDRC is also urging local governments to offer subsidies and free charging. Still, the costs involved with installing chargers are keeping many from doing it, and many consumers are hesitant to become early adopters of EVs. Fastest cars in the world by top speed, 0-60 and quarter mile

Tue, Feb 13 2024

A claim for the title of “Fastest Car in the World” might seem easy to settle. ItÂ’s actually anything but: Are we talking production cars, race cars or customized monsters? And what does “fastest” even mean? For years, car publications have tended to define “fastest” in terms of an unbeatable top speed. ThatÂ’s distinct from the “quickest” car in a Usain Bolt-style dash from the starting blocks, as with the familiar 0-60 mph metric. Professionals often focus on track lap times or elapsed time-to-distance, as with a drag racer thatÂ’s first to trip the beam of light at the end of a quarter-mile; or the 1,000-foot trip of nitromethane-powered NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car dragsters. Something tells us, however, that you're not seeking out an answer of "Brittany Force rewriting the NHRA record books with a 3.659-second pass at a boggling 338.17 mph." For most barroom speed arguments, the focus is firmly on cars you can buy in showrooms, even if many are beyond the financial means of all but the wealthiest buyers and collectors. Here are some of the enduring sources of speed claims, counter-claims, tall tales and taunting dismissals that are the lifeblood of car enthusiasts – now with EVs adding an unexpected twist to these passionate pursuits.   Fastest from the blocks: 0-60 mph Thirty years ago, any car that could clock 60 mph in five seconds or less was considered extremely quick. Today, high-performance, gasoline-powered sedans and SUVs are routinely breaking below 4 seconds. As of today, the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 crushes all with a 0-60 mph time of just 1.66 seconds. That's simply absurd, but keep in mind the Demon was engineered with the single-minded purpose of going fast in a straight line. It's also important to realize that direct comparisons are difficult, because not all of these times were accomplished with similar conditions (prepped surfaces, adjustments for elevation and so on). The moral here is to take these times with a tiny grain of salt. After the Dodge, the Rimac Nevera comes in with an officially recorded 0-60 mph time of just 1.74 seconds. EVs crowd the quickest list, with the Pininfarina Battista coming in a few hundredths slower (1.79 seconds) than the Nevera and the Lucid Air sapphire (1.89 seconds) right after that. Eventually, you arrive to the Tesla Model S Plaid, which has a claimed 1.99-second 0-60 mph time, though instrumented testing by Car and Driver shows it accomplishes the deed in 2.1 seconds.
