1993 Mercedes-Benz 190E (type W201) 2.6 Limited Edition with Sportline option. 1 of 700 made for Mercedes-Benz North America.

More than 1.8 million W201 models were manufactured by Mercedes-Benz. 1993 was the last year of the W201 chassis. A total of 1,400 "Limited Edition" 190E models were made available through Mercedes-Benz North America. These models were not available outside North America. There were 700 190E 2.3 models finished in emerald green and 700 190E 2.6 models finished in black. The 2.6 Limited Edition is different from the standard 190E in the following ways:

--lowered suspension and stiffer springs similar to the 190E 2.3 16v suspension
--15"x7" 8-hole wheels
--quicker steering ratio
--faux carbon fiber trim on dash and center console
--Recaro 2-tone leather seats (black with red piping and inserts)
--Sportline badges on quarter panels and shift knob
--black and red door cards

700 of these cars were offered for sale 20 years ago. Not many are left on the road today. This is the top of the line model for the 190E 2.6 and with its smooth running inline 6, this car is a truly magnificent touring sedan.

This car is in remarkable condition. Build date is January 1993. All body panels and paint are original. There is no accident damage. Borderline concours condition with a little work. The following caveats should be noted:

--original airbag steering wheel has been removed and replaced with an aftermarket Momo wheel. I do not have the original airbag wheel.
--wheels are straight and true but I painted them black. It is not a professional job.
--leather seats have separated at the seams at the rear seat back top.
--door panel trim is starting to pull away from around the inside latch trim on the passenger side.
--gauge cluster was replaced and odometer shows 80,000 + miles. Actual mileage is about 190,000.
--small 1/2" rock chip in front windscreen that is out of the driver's direct line of sight.
--stock headlights and front corners have been replaced with aftermarket "European style" lights (Depo). Car no longer has headlamp washer system.
--new brake pads will be installed prior to sale. I will smog the car for CA buyers.

Car has always been serviced by MB techs. AC has been converted to R134. Everything on the car works as it should. It is a toy not a daily driver. Nevertheless I have taken it on at least three 1,000+ mile road trips in the last 2 years and it is flawless on the highway. The only reason I am selling is to fund another acquisition. I have limited garage space so I have to make room.

New Mercedes-Benz pickup to be called GLT?

Fri, Apr 17 2015

The Mercedes-Benz pickup will allegedly be called the GLT, and it won't be "a fat cowboy truck." That's according to the head of MB's truck project, former AMG boss Volker Mornhinweg, quoted by Car. We already knew that Mercedes would be teaming up with Renault-Nissan for its double-cab pickup, but until Car sat down with Mornhinweg, we were unsure of how the vehicle would be targeted. Aside from being neither fat nor cowboy like, the exec shed some light on the German brand's mindset behind the new truck. "We are not going to develop a fat cowboy truck for North America. After all, the big three – Ford, GM/GMC and Ram – already own about 90 percent of that market which typically absorbs in excess of two million units per year," Mornhinweg told Car. "In this cutthroat environment, newcomers like us would invariably fight an arduous uphill battle. That's why our focus is on a smaller and lighter pick-up truck which is already perceived as premium product in South America, Africa and the Middle East." While Mornhinweg wasn't the one to let slip on the new Mercedes truck's name, Car reports that it will wear the GLT badge. There's no mention of where the publication came up with that title, though, aside from "rumors." We've reached out to Mercedes-Benz for comment on the truck's name, and should they get back to us, we'll be sure to update this post. Detroit Auto Show prankster 'damages' hundreds of thousands of dollars of cars

Thu, Jan 29 2015

Obtaining credentials for an auto show is generally a pretty selective process, especially at one of the world's premier shows, like Geneva, Los Angeles or Detroit. That didn't stop online prankster Dennis Roady from getting credentialed for the 2015 North American International Auto Show on behalf of a Russian YouTube channel to cover the show. While he wasn't brought on strictly to cause mischief, Roady couldn't help but have some fun at the expense of the product specialists during the serious business of covering the show. He took to an app called "Dude, Your Car," which allows Apple iPhone users to take snaps of vehicles and then edit them to add some serious, but fake, dents and scratches. Naturally, the pranking session was caught on video, where you can enjoy the sight of poor product specialists freaking out over damage to vehicles ranging from the Mercedes-Maybach S600 to the Audi R8 and a lovely Dodge Challenger. Take a look. News Source: howtoPRANKitup via YouTube, The Detroit News Humor Detroit Auto Show Audi Dodge Mercedes-Benz Coupe Luxury Performance Videos Sedan 2015 Detroit Auto Show prank

YouTube viewers prefer BMW

Fri, Sep 11 2015

BMW owners sometimes get a bad rap as being snobbish, rude drivers, but according to a new study by the online marketing company ZEFR, Bimmer aficionados also have a close relationship with the brand's vehicles. With well over 4 billion YouTube views, the German automaker is the industry's king of the road online. Making the popularity even sweeter for marketers, 95 percent of those clicks are for fan videos, which represents loads of free advertising. BMW isn't the only automaker with such an extensive following. Honda comes in a close second with around 4 billion views, and Mercedes-Benz is just a little behind it. Among all brands, it's the norm for fan-made videos rather than the official ones to get the lion's share of the clicks, generally 95 percent or more. "YouTube has become a treasure trove for connecting with the right people for automakers," Dave Rosner, ZEFR marketing boss, said to Automotive News. Beyond just a popularity contest among brands, automotive videos are big business on YouTube, according to ZEFR's research. Enthusiasts are leading the way, too. Racing is by far the most-watched category with 895,000 clips generating a staggering 8.2 billion views. Classic cars are also a very hot topic with 305,000 videos getting 1.6 billion clicks. Surprisingly, when it comes to watching auto videos, sedans are most popular on YouTube with over 9 billion views, according to Automotive News. Meanwhile, SUVs, performance vehicles, and pickups were each around 3 billion or less. You can check out the full study for yourself, as a PDF, here. Related Video:
