1987 Mercedes-benz 190-series 2.3-16v Cosworth on 2040-cars
Altadena, California, United States
|
Rare 1987 Mercedes 190e 2.3L -16v with 88k miles. Been stored since 2003, recently registered and up to date tags, 5 speed dog leg transmission, own a very rare piece of automotive history with a racing legacy. Mercedes Benz only imported 2,200 of these between 1986-87 for US customers.
This car sat in a garage for 10 years prior to me purchasing it. Why buy an all original car when you can get a car with all new bushings, control arms etc..Needless to say, it is one of a kind, and truly fun to drive, and not many in this good of condition are still on the road.Recenty replaced engine mounts and transmission mount, new rear bushings, new rear adjustable control arms (all from HedgeHog motorsports - $1700 value). Lowered on bilstein shocks, H&R Springs, drilled rotors, new rear axles, rebuilt rear differential, 16" mercedes SL rims with brand new Toyo Proxes Tires, new kenwood USB stereo, Euro headlights.. I have put a lot of work into the car since owning it.
All the hard work has been done. I have receipts covering its 27 year history. All numbers match. Clean CA title, straight body, all gauges work with exception of lap timer which is common. Interior in good condition with Mercedes floor mats, car cover, Drives and shifts good.
Have tons of extra parts including 500e sway bars and H&R swaybars, original headlights, extra set of rims and more. Magnaflow exhaust, no cats. I have a seperate bolt on exhaust system that will let make it pass smog. Will not pass smog legally. Registration good till 2014, smog check good for 2 years.
These cars are starting to appreciate in value just as when the e30 M3's did a few years back. This will eventually be a $20-$30k car if you were to simply sit on it. Cons:
Dash cracked, Odometer stopped working at 88k miles. Paint is patina in some areas, sunroof doesnt open, lap timer doesnt work, this is a 70/100 car, The AC is non operational at this time, antenna doesnt go up and down. Put some work into the interior and new paint and you will have a 100/100 car. Shipping is buyers responsibility, I am willing to hold on to the vehicle for free at a safe place until it is picked up or arranged for shipment, if i have to store the vehicle for a while I will be more glad to do so for free but it must be paid for in full first.
I will only accept cash in hand, Money orders, Bank cashiers checks. No personal checks will be accepted I am sorry. |

Mercedes-Maybach Pullman is the luxury car for the discerning dictator
Fri, Mar 16 2018For decades, Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-Maybach cars have been the ride of choice for leaders across the globe, presidents, ambassadors, dictators and despots alike. The Pullman model — a long-wheelbase six-seat variant — has been particularly popular with this select clientele. This week, the German automaker announced the latest version of the car, the Mercedes-Maybach Pullman S650. Essentially, this is a stretched version of the V12-powered Maybach with two rear-facing seats just behind the front row. Mercedes is calling this vis-a-vis seating. There's also a partitioning glass between the front seats and the rear cabin. This is of course to help prevent the chauffeur from learning and spilling any state secrets or plans for plans for secret moon bases. New for this model is a front-facing camera for rear-seat passengers. This allows occupants to watch for any oncoming obstacles, barricades or road blocks. Visually, there's no mistaking the Pullman for another Maybach or really anything else on the road. The car is 21.3-feet long, 4.5-feet longer than the standard Maybach or roughly the size of two and a half Smart Fortwo placed bumper-to-bumper. The requisite 20-inch 10-hole wheels are present and the standard pinstripe Maybach grille has been updated with a slightly new design. The car only comes in S650 trim, meaning it's powered by a 630 horsepower 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12. As expected, the Mercedes-Maybach Pullman isn't cheap. Orders have started, but be prepared to shell out at least $615,000 before adding any custom touches. Car subscription services: A slow, expensive start — but the potential is huge
Wed, Dec 26 2018Americans are used to paying for subscriptions — to magazines and cable television, for instance — but experience shows they'll cancel when the price of admission gets too high, or there are more tempting alternatives. Cord cutters ditched nearly 1.5 million pay-TV subscriptions in 2017, according to a survey by Leichtman Research Group. Cable TV started out cheap with basic offerings, and then got expensive. The auto industry's subscription offerings are new, but they're starting out costly, and not price-competitive with traditional leasing. The upside is that they take the hassle out of car ownership for busy people by letting the service take care of maintenance, insurance, licensing and taxes. And they give consumers choice, often allowing relatively painless switches between different cars in the automakers' lineup. Subscription services also point the way toward an ownership-free auto experience, and offer an easy transition to a potential world where ride- and car-sharing will be dominant. Subscriptions are here to stay, but consumers may take a while to "get" them. Lincoln's subscription service for lightly used 2015 to 2017 models, offered through the Ford-owned Canvas beginning this year, got off to a slow start. Many early subscribers canceled. Last month, Cadillac announced it would " temporarily pause" its $1,800-per-month Book subscription service for "adjustments" as of December 1. According to the Wall Street Journal, "Snags with the back-end technology used to support the service made some customer-service functions tedious and time-consuming, adding costs for the company." The challenge for automakers is to come up with a strategy that offers consumers a compelling, affordable option to regular ownership, and one that can also make a profit. I think they'll find that sweet spot, but they're not there yet. Jack Nerad, former executive editorial director at Kelley Blue Book and author of " The Complete Idiot's Guide to Buying or Leasing a Car," points out that "A lot of people expected that subscriptions would be very valuable for people who wanted inexpensive transportation, but the reality is quite the opposite. Subscriptions are offering more choices for the wealthy.
Hollywood stars drink hydrogen B-Class F-Cell emission water in Death Valley [UPDATE]
Tue, Feb 4 2014A plug-in electric vehicle can be used to power a house during a winter storm, but if you're more worried about the heat of, say, Death Valley, then maybe you'll want a Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell along. That's the message of a new video from Daimler and starring Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds) and Joshua Jackson (Fringe) that promotes the company's hydrogen-powered car. The gist? You can drink the tailpipe emissions. The two Hollywood stars drove in Death Vally without any water in their F-Cell but had a special tank hooked up to the tailpipe to collect the H2O drips as they drove in 100+ degree temperatures. There's a reason these two actors were chosen, since they've been driving an F-Cell in their daily lives for two years, according to the Diamler press release. The text is, shall we say, a bit hyperbolic - "Their lives rely on the emissions of the B-Class F-CELL" it says, totally ignoring the film crew that is obviously along for the ride and more than likely had a few bottles with them. Also, when the California Fuel Cell Partnership promoted the same idea a few years ago, it clarified that, "A fuel cell doesn't produce enough water to fill your glass. ... If fact, fuel cells produce about the same amount of water as gasoline vehicle – about 1/3 cup for a full day of driving." Thus, this whole thing is a Hollywood stunt, but it's a visually effective one. See for yourself in the mini-movie below. UPDATE: Daimler has told AutoblogGreen that there was no "extra Hollywood magic" needed for the water collected in the video. Instead, Madeleine Herdlitschka, who works at global communications for Mercedes-Benz Cars, said, "Considering the technical characteristics, the Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL emits about 9 kg of water vapor per kg of hydrogen while driving. The vehicle has a hydrogen capacity of about 3.7 kg, what is sufficient for a max. of about 400 km of range. A tailor-made construction, designed by the production company Markenfilm Crossing in cooperation with our fuel cell experts, made it possible to collect the water in a tank - previously cooling the vapor with a specially designed pipe system."
