2004 Mazda Rx-8 6 Speed Manual, Grand Touring, Upgrades, New Engine, Clutch! on 2040-cars
Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States
I've had this RX-8 up for sale once before but I backed out of the sale because I just couldn't give up the car. The little RX-8's are just that good! This time around, I've saved up a bit more for a new(er) car and I can finally see myself parting with it. Lucky for all you guys! So, let's get to the part you care about:
I have every record from when he owned the car, dating back to the window sticker and information pamphlet on the RX-8. Both of us changed the oil like clockwork every 2,500 miles and have the receipts to back it up! The car has never been tracked or abused in its lifetime although it has gotten an Italian tuneup running through mountain roads. As all rotary enthusiasts know, Italian tuneups are the best way to keep an RX of any kind in tip top condition. Without getting the RPM's up near red line every so often, carbon builds up and can severely damage the engine. The first engine in the car was a little less than perfect from the factory and was replaced by Mazda under warranty at 70k miles. It was late enough in the life cycle of the RX-8 to get a R2 engine making it much more robust. The engine itself now has only 26k miles on it! It's barely broken in! In addition to the near new engine, I have taken the time to fix up the weak links in the RX-8's design. The coils were always a particularly weak point of the car and so have been replaced by Black Halo Racing's (they're an all rotary race and engineering team) coil upgrade kit. Normally, coil replacement is a fairly regular part of RX-8 ownership and expensive! But with these coils, they should last the life of the car. Also to be noted is the car had its first clutch replacement at 94k. This should tell you just how well this car has been cared for. Normal for an RX-8 according to Mazda is between 40-60k depending on driving habits. Please note, I am usually busy with work or other obligations. Email or text is by far the best way to contact me. I will make every effort to answer calls but if I can't, please do leave a message and I will call you back within a few hours. A full list of upgrades and notable features are below:
So, what's wrong with it? Aside from being impractical for me at this time, there are a few minor problems I will point out: The steering wheel shows some signs of wear on the left side. You can probably see it in the pictures. A Cadillac Escalade hit a deer, propelling it over the highway barrier and into the driver's side fender. It left a small dent, USAA replaced the entire panel. If there's a VIN report on it (guessing there is) that's the reason for it. I have pictures of the damage, it wasn't much but it sure made me mad :D Ding in the passenger side suicide door from a jerk opening a door into it in a parking lot Small scuff on the rear bumper, once again, someone in a parking lot I never caught. You may be able to see them in the pictures. They're hard to see unless you're looking for it. Also, the right rear TPMS sensor is on the way out. On occasion, the TPMS will warn the driver that one unit is failing. It's intermittent and I check my own pressures regularly so I never saw a reason to change it out. Aside from that, the car runs brilliantly, cranking almost instantly with the latest software updates from Mazda! And as always, any questions you have, don't hesitate to ask! |

2018 Mazda6 refresh takes the car further upmarket
Wed, Nov 29 2017The 2018 Mazda6 is, on the surface, a very mild refresh. The front grille has been given more depth, and the fascia is generally cleaned up a bit, putting the design inline with the new CX-5 and future Mazda products. The interior has been given the same treatment: cleaned up and modernized. But throughout the car, some important updates under the skin make the 6 a more compelling product, and one that continues the company's push upmarket. The biggest change has already been partly revealed, and that's the addition of Mazda's turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder. It's the same engine found in the CX-9, and Mazda has now revealed it will make the same 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque with premium fuel. The engine will also happily accept 87-octane, in which case the engine will make 227 horsepower. Though the addition of this engine is welcome, we're a bit disappointed to learn that it will only be available with a six-speed automatic transmission. If we're lucky, we might see Mazda add a manual option, since when Mazda launched the current Mazda3, the larger 2.5-liter engine was initially only available with an automatic. But try not to get your hopes up too high, either. The good news is that Mazda will continue to offer a manual transmission as well as an automatic with the base, naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder. This engine will now feature cylinder deactivation, as will the 2018 Mazda CX-5. This system will shut off the cylinders on each end at cruising speed to improve fuel economy. Official fuel economy ratings for both engines have yet to be released. Aside from the powertrain, Mazda says it has made a few other mechanical improvements. The suspension has been retuned, and the steering rack rigidly mounted to the chassis to improve handling. Thicker sheet metal for the rear wheel wells, thicker trailing arms, and a bevy of braces have also been added in order to reduce noise for a more refined driving experience. The interior has also been updated for more refinement, particularly on the new Signature trim model. The sleeker interior design on all Mazda6s is joined by redesigned seats Mazda says are more comfortable. Those seats are now available with optional ventilation. A windshield-projected heads-up display, adaptive cruise control that can bring the car to a stop and resume accelerating, as well as an instrument panel with a configurable 7-inch screen are other options.
Mazda6 sees gains in ugly month for midsize sedans
Thu, Jul 5 2018Though June overall wasn't a terrible month for automaker sales, at least for the most part, it was pretty hideous for midsize family sedans. Basically every single model in the segment saw declining numbers including the Subaru Legacy, Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion, Volkswagen Passat, and even perennial volume sellers such as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. All of these cars are down in year-to-date numbers, too. But there's one bright spot, and it comes from Mazda. Mazda reports that the Mazda6 actually had a really good month. It sold 3,204 examples of the family sedan in June 2018, compared with 2,360 in June of last year. That's a nearly 36 percent increase month-over-month. It was also enough to bump Mazda6 sales for 2018 ahead of 2017's numbers through June. Those numbers also put the Mazda6 ahead of the Volkswagen Passat for June, and just 20 vehicles shy of the Subaru Legacy. Admittedly, these are still small numbers all around. In the same month, Honda sold over 26,000 Accords, and Toyota sold about 27,000 Camrys. Sales of Mazda's other vehicles also indicate that crossovers really are the new hotness. The CX-5 sold a whopping (relatively) 12,710 units. The CX-3 and CX-9 sold about 2,300 examples each, which is below both Mazda3 and Mazda6, but both crossovers gained more this month and over the year than both cars. Mazda3 is actually down this month and overall. All of this also seems to give some credence to Ford's decision to move away from traditional sedans. Still, for fans of more conventional cars, it's a bit heartening to see that more niche players can find some success with the design. We're also pleased to see such an excellent sedan recognized with actual buyers. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Will Mazda show the next Miata's chassis in NY?
Fri, 21 Mar 2014Mazda is being very sneaky about what it is bringing to the New York Auto Show, and it might have something to do with the next-generation MX-5 Miata. Australian website Motoring.com.au spoke to a company insider who told it that at least the chassis for the roadster would debut in Manhattan. The rumor goes that the show will act as the kickoff for the PR campaign for the new model.
We contacted Mazda USA PR Director Jeremy Barnes to find out more, and he would neither confirm nor deny the rumor. "Just because you read it on the Internet doesn't mean you should repeat it," he said to Autoblog. That's not exactly an outright, No.
Supporting evidence that the new drop top might be appearing in the Big Apple includes Mazda's plan to celebrate the model's 25th anniversary at the show. It's bringing 15 cars from the first three generations to display. "It will be absolutely worth attending the New York Auto Show if you're a Miata fan," Barnes said. That at least hints that there might be something he's not telling us. Otherwise it's a lot of sizzle without much steak.
