If you are a Rotor head, you know this is the "holy grail" first Gen RX7. That's why I got it, and why I put a fresh engine in it.

If you are not a "Rotor Head" I can tell you they made these cars for two years only and they had the larger, more powerful 13B fuel injected engines and larger brakes and wheels. They are really a great car and they are sought after by RX7 enthusiasts and collectors who see them as a car that going up in value.

Since I got it, I have taken on other, more valuable projects and the RX7 needs a new Rotor daddy.

The GOOD: Straight body, fresh rebuild (about 4,000 miles)good clutch, gearbox, rear end, Air conditioning and power steering, great tires, new idler arm etc.

The BAD: The seats have tears, the rear carpet is shot, the rear interior trim panel; is MIA and the left taillight is coming apart.. There is minor oil leak at the cooler, there is a Power steering leak. The car has the RX7 "on center" wander in the steering, but it has the new updated Idler arm so it may be a steering box adjustment. I'd call it "normal".

It is intermittently hard to start cold..your guess is as good as mine:).

I always under describe and over deliver in my auctions, so understand this is not a $1500 beater car. It has more money than the "Buy it now" invested in the engine and new parts, it just needs more attention than I have time for to make it a very valuable car. I am done with it, come get it!

NOTE: If you want one of these that needs less attention, there is very nice red GSL SE on eBay with now, with the nicer gray interior, it is at $5,000 with more than 50 bids as I type this......

Mazda and Lexus crowned with KBB 5-Year Cost To Own awards

We report on a lot of awards, some of which are given out based on more solid criteria than others. This one, the Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own awards, seems like one that new car shoppers should pay attention to.
The cost of a car goes far beyond what you pay for the actual metal, leather and rubber at the point of purchase. Fuel, insurance, maintenance and repair costs, and the cost of fees from the state and financing will all weigh on your wallet while you own the car. That's not even taking into account the biggest cost: depreciation, or the amount of money you lose based on what your car is worth years from now versus the day you bought it.
KBB tracks these sorts of things, and they've compiled a list of winners for 2013 models. On the brand level, Mazda and Lexus earn the 5-Year Cost to Own award for having the lowest overall projected five-year totals (though, curiously, we note that Mazda and Lexus each had only one segment winner). There are lots of winners for all the various segments, so we'll just pick out a few surprising ones to share and you can view the rest here.

2018 Mazda3 gets low-speed automatic braking across the board

Though the Mazda3 is mostly carry-over for the 2018 model year, Mazda has sweetened the deal on all trim levels ever so slightly with more standard equipment. Most notable is the inclusion of low-speed automatic emergency braking on the base Sport trim. That makes the feature standard on every version of Mazda3, and it's also included on manual transmission models. Touring's big change is the inclusion of the 184-horsepower 2.5-liter engine as the standard powertrain. This means you'll only be able to get the 2.0-liter engine on the Sport trim. Finally, Grand Touring gets a lighting upgrade with self-leveling LED lights up front along with LED taillights and running lights. Mazda also supplies these additional features while barely changing prices. The Sport trim level increases by $250. The Touring trim actually drops in price by $355 for the sedan, and an impressive $1,555 for the hatchback (when compared with the existing Touring 2.5 trim level). Grand Touring pricing remains the same as the 2017 model year. Related Video:

Driving a $500 junker in a 500-mile off-road rally race | 'The List' #0500

Jessi and Patrick have done some insane rally races on "The List," but in an effort to continually out-do themselves, this might be the craziest yet. It's called the Gambler 500, and the idea is that 2,000-plus participants take $500 cars and drive them 500 miles across Oregon, mostly off-road. It's a maniacal mishmash of cars with not enough doors, too many doors, airplane wings strapped to the tops, graffiti'd cartoons on the hoods, stuffed animals hanging out the windows — you get the idea. Our hosts start the race with an absolutely epic Mazda Miata sitting atop super swampers. It didn't have a top, but have no fear because it had a roll cage, so ... that's better? Unfortunately though, they didn't have time to customize the car fully to their liking before the race, so the first stop after the starting gun was naturally a garage sale for some knickknacks to give the car a little more flair. One of the defining aspects of the Gambler 500 is having the most obnoxious, bonkers car possible, and the old Miata needed a bit of a kick in the ass. Thankfully, the crew found the largest teddy bear in existence, strapped that bad boy to the roll cage, and they were on their way. There are a few routes you can choose to take in the Gambler 500, and our crew chose the most challenging, called "The Devil's Butthole." A hilarious name for an outrageously fun route, it's definitely not one that many Miatas have likely tackled. And therein lies the gamble: Will they make it to the end?
