THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION

This 88 was purchased by me a little over a year ago from the second owner. The first owner had the car for the majority of its life and according to the information I've gathered used it primarily for long road trips from central Missouri to New York and Texas. The second owner had it for a summer toy and put only a few thousand miles on it. I used it as a daily driver for the first few months of owning it and for periodic fun cruises since. Car has been garaged throughout and has quite a bit of documentation showing consistent maintenance. Car is very smooth to drive, corners wonderfully, sounds very very good, and gets a lot of attention on the road.

This is my first rotary and I've been very impressed by it. I intended to keep this car as a car to restore and improve, but due to a family health situation am unable to put the time into it and do not want it sitting in the garage. I'm hoping to find a good RX7 home for it on ebay. This is not the high maintenance car most non-rotary people believe it to be, but it is not a typical Japanese car of the era and requires some specific knowledge for trouble free enjoyment. I'm not a rotary expert but have come to understand the basics and am happy to answer any questions I am able to.

I'm assuming most potential buyers will be RX7 lovers, but for new rotary people here is a great summary of the car:

http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/2009/12/01/hmn_buyers_guide1.html

This 88 is good but has a few characteristic issues of the year and model. I have bought and sold a number of cars from a distance so I understand the importance of knowing the condition of a car bought sight unseen, so I will try to best describe anything I would want to know.

Original leather seats are included but need reupholstery. I removed them and installed standard Series 4 cloth seats which look good but are not nearly as nice as the original convertible seats.

Dash vent covers - see pics - are missing.

Backlighting on HVAC panel is out.

Carpet has minor discoloring in floorboards.

Original RX7 floormats are included, driver's side is very worn.

Trunk release lever does not work from cabin, must use key cylinder on trunk.

Minor exterior scratches and dings.

Rust on passenger rear wheel well. I have not done anything to the spot as I was debating restoring to original or removing and installing fender flares throughout.

Minor exhaust leak at manifold.

Motor will flood easily in cold weather start up, installed fuel cut off switch in cabin which is very effective but should be considered a temporary fix.

Brake fluid reservoir sits loosely in grommets, have compressed with ties to prevent any leakage but should be considered a temporary fix.

Oil cooler upper hose has leak at cooler end which dirties radiator and driver's A arm, have replacement braided hoses which will be included but have not installed them.

Convertible top has small tweaks at hinge point behind roll bar.

Blue tonneau cover is included but not shown in pictures.

Spare, jack, BBS lug cover tool etc included. I haven't discovered any original equipment that is missing.

New plugs, air filter, most fluids, some hoses, battery, tires within a few hundred miles.

A/C converted to R134a.

Adult owned entirety of life, no modifications other than tires now 225/50-15 (stock 205/60-15).

Please contact with any questions or requests for other pictures. Mileage may increase slightly as I drive it ~ 1/month to keep it lubed.

I have shipped cars as both buyer and seller and am happy to assist in any way should shipping be required upon sale.

Mazda poaches designer Kevin Rice back from BMW

Wed, 30 Oct 2013

Kevin Rice left Mazda a baker's dozen years ago, but now he's back.
A graduate of the Transportation Design program at Coventry University (just across town from Jaguar headquarters), Rice worked his way up in the industry working for the likes of Opel and Italdesign Giugiaro before landing a job at Mazda. Between 1995 and 2000, he collaborated on such projects as the RX-8 and the 1999 Neospace concept that previewed the Mazda2 before moving on to BMW, where the new 3 Series and 4 Series were among the last projects he worked on during his 13-year tenure in Munich.
Now back at Mazda, Rice has been named the Japanese automaker's new creative director, charged with further honing the brand's KODO design language from its European headquarters in Oberursel, Germany. We're looking forward to seeing what he and his design team come up with in the coming years.

Mazda Miata could get retractable hardtop in New York

Fri, Mar 11 2016

The upcoming New York Auto Show just got a little more exciting because Mazda could debut the latest MX-5 Miata with a power retractable hardtop there. The best evidence comes from Autocar, which has an image of Mazda's invitation. The message promises a "world premiere" in the Big Apple and further teases, "Help us blow the lid off the New York Auto Show." The last Miata PRHT made up 52 percent of the roadster's sales mix in the US, so creating another one is an easy decision for the company. According to Autocar, expect the new roof mechanism to be lighter and more compact than the previous design. It would still add some weight compared to the cloth top, but customers would get the added insulation and security from the hardtop. With the NC PRHT as a guide, don't expect many changes for the new other than the roof. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque with either the six-speed manual or automatic should still make for an exciting drive. The hardtop just makes life a little more comfortable if you have to deal with rain or snow for part of the year. We can't wait to see it. Related Video:

2016 Mazda CX-3 is a 2 cute ute

Tue, 18 Nov 2014

One day removed from our latest round of spy photos, Mazda has finally lifted the veil on its 2016 CX-3 crossover, giving us our very first glimpse at the Mazda2-based entry into the rapidly expanding world of subcompact crossovers.
Mazda's KODO design language is once again on display, presenting some increasingly familiar styling touchstones including a five-point grille that integrates neatly with the front headlights to present an almost protruding snout that's both clean and complex. Like previous KODO designs, the CX-3's profile features swoopy character lines that highlight the wheel arches and a higher beltline. Mazda has cleverly chosen to black out the CX-3's D-pillar in favor of a floating roof look, a design decision that adds to the model's fashionable styling. It's the rear of the design that borrows most heavily from the Mazda2, largely in the shape of the headlights and rear hatch.
Globally, under that fashionable sheetmetal sits Mazda's 2.0-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder that can be mated to a six-speed manual or automatic. Unfortunately, in North America, it looks like we'll only get the automatic. Regardless of gearbox, power can be sent to an optional next-gen all-wheel-drive system that uses the active torque control system found on the Mazda CX-5. Like the Mazda2, front-drive is standard.
