I purchased this RX-7 in 1986 and have enjoyed it very much.  I turned it into a dedicated Autocross car in 1990 and raced it until 1997.  I have had it in storage for several years and had the intention to do a 13B Turbo upgrade but have not been able to find the time to finish it.  The 12A motor is pretty tired and I would not consider it a running motor.  I purchased the 13B turbo and 5-speend transmission from a 1990 RX-7 in 2008.  The auction includes the car and any spares I have to go with it.  Please contact me with any questions or additional pictures.  Delivery is an option for a fee, enough to cover my expenses.  Reserve is far less than I have into the car.

Body:

Mazda factory race flares from the competition dept.
Custom Kevlar / glass front.
Glass hood and rear wing.
Windshield is plexiglass, would recommend replacing it if used anywhere other than an autocross.

.125 wall DOM tubing full cage.
(2) Corbeau race seats.  (seats are in quite bad condition and would need to be rebuilt to be used)
Small gauge panel with Auto Meter Phantom Tach, Oil Temp & Oil Pressure.
Doors have been gutted to save weight and recovered with aluminum.  (latched are still functional, however the exterior door handles have been removed.)
New carpet set in Grey (not installed)

Suspension:

Competition Front lower control arms with rod end bearing for camber adjustment.
Delrin bushings on lower tension rods.
1-1/8" Front sway bar with urethane bushings.
KYB five way adjustable front struts.
Shorter / stiffer springs F/R
KYB std gas shocks rear.
Racing beat 3/4" adjustable rear sway bar.
Competition pads with 4 wheel discs.
Brake system is braided stainless from master cylinder to all calipers.  Also includes a brake proportioning valve.

Driveline:

12A rotary  (considered not in running condition due to 17 years of storage.)
Mikuni 44PHH sidedraft carb.
Custom long primary header ending in a flowmaster comp muffler.
GSL rear end with limited slip differential.

Misc:

13x10 three piece aluminum race wheels.
New Kumho Ecsta V700 235/45R13 tires.
8 Gallon fuel cell with Holley high flow pump and braided lines.
set of 13x10 steel wheels with old rain tires.  (used for practice, tires are too old to use now.)
extra 5-speed trans for a 12A motor powered car.
13B Turbo and 5-speed trans from a 1990 donor car.  Included wiring harness and computer.
Racing Beat front motor mount.  Fits 13B into this chassis.
New Aluminum lightweight flywheel for 13B (installed with correct auto trans counterweight.)
New clutch & Pressure plate for 13B.
New intercooler.
stock steel hood.
Original headlight parts and other misc items shown in pictures.

2002 Mazda MX-5 Miata powered by a Jaguar-sourced V6 for sale

Tue, Aug 25 2020

Cars & Bids, a relatively new site that specializes in auctioning modern enthusiast cars, is selling a 2002 Mazda MX-5 Miata. While that's hardly unusual, this example lost its four-cylinder engine and gained a Jaguar-sourced V6. Pulling a 3.0-liter six out of a 2000 S-Type and dropping it into an unsuspecting Miata is apparently easier than it sounds. England-based Rocketeer offers a kit that makes the swap reasonably straightforward, though the listing notes the factory air conditioning system is not compatible with the new engine. Cold air aside, the installation is done so neatly that it looks like Mazda envisioned the Miata with a bigger engine. Jag's V6 inevitably adds weight to a roadster praised globally for its nimble handling, but it also brings a whole lot of horsepower to the table. Left stock, a 2002 Miata is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that makes 142 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. The example listed on Cars & Bids puts 220 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque under the driver's right foot, figures that easily offset the weight gain. And, somewhat surprisingly, the six spins the rear wheels through a stock five-speed manual transmission. Flyin' Miata sway bars and Koni shocks improve handling. Close the hood, and this Jagazda looks like a run-of-the-mill 18-year-old Miata. The seller made no modifications to the body, it's still painted in its original shade of silver, and he kept the stock 15-inch wheels. The dual exhaust tips hint at the V6, but they're subtle enough to surprise more than a few racers at the next autocross event. The auction is live now, and bidding stands at $4,250 as of writing with about three days left before the hammer drops. If you miss your chance to bag it, several shops sell kits that let skilled shade-tree mechanics shoehorn Mazda's K-Series V6 (which powered the MX-6 and the Ford Probe, among other cars) into an older Miata. Mazda3 officially unveiled

Wed, 26 Jun 2013

Mazda has officially pulled the sheets off of its 2014 Mazda3. The all-new compact boasts a wheelbase that's a full 2.4 inches longer than the outgoing model, yet the hatchback is a nearly two inches shorter from stem to stern. The machine is also lower and wider than before, which should give occupants plenty of space indoors. The driver gets treated to a new human-machine interface that features a new Active Driving Display for information like vehicle speed and navigation instructions conveniently in the line of sight. Likewise, the vehicle's infotainment system has received a complete rebuild.
Outside, the new Mazda3 makes full use of the company's KODO design language, and to our eyes, the result is one of the most attractive entries in the segment. Jump under the hood, and buyers can expect to find a Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine with 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, though no fuel economy estimates are available. For those looking for a bit more thrust, Mazda also offers a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G gasoline mill with 184 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. So far there's no word on the diesel engine available to our friends in Europe.
Both engines can be mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic and feature the automaker's i-ELOOP brake energy regeneration systems. The recaptured energy is stored in a capacitor and used to power the vehicle's various electrical systems.

Confirmed: Mazda Miata gets more power, higher redline, telescoping wheel

Mon, Jun 11 2018

Our friend over at Road & Track, Bozi Tatarevic, has a keen nose for stuff just like today's Miata news, and he spotted an article by the Japanese car magazine Car Watch that details Mazda's upcoming updates. Car Watch actually got to drive the car, too. There's a lot to go through, but the highlight has to be confirmation of what we told you earlier this year about a significant power bump: The Miata will indeed get an increase of 26 horsepower, from 155 to 181. But the power's not the whole story. Mazda has increased the redline from 6,800 RPM to 7,500. It's not clear at this point where torque and power peaks are in the rev range, or how these changes affect low-speed drivability, but more revs are almost always a good thing and aren't likely to detract from the roadster's fundamental goodness. Car Watch reports that lighter pistons and connecting rods are fitted to help reduce rotational mass in the 2.0-liter inline-four. Some valvetrain changes were needed to support the higher redline, mainly stiffer valvesprings to prevent valve float. Mazda also changed the shape of the valves and optimized the intake ports to breathe better at higher RPM. The inner diameter of the exhaust ports were increased to flow better through a new muffler better tuned to the engine's new operating range. This confirms and gives a little more detail to what we reported earlier based on a leaked document from Mazda Canada. Car Watch also confirms that the revised Miata will get a low-inertia dual-mass flywheel, which should help absorb some vibration, noise and harshness from the higher-revving engine without losing too much of the directness that a single-mass flywheel provides. Mazda usually gets stuff like this right, so while we won't know until we get a chance to drive it whether the DMF feels "right," we're not too worried about it. There's also a telescopic steering wheel, a first in any Miata, which has a range of about 1.1 inches. That doesn't sound like much, but it should help folks with longer legs reach the wheel without having to crank the seat forward. Interestingly, Car Watch reports that the telescoping wheel was opposed by some in the company seeking to save every fraction of an ounce of weight, and to get it through, the company apparently had to change some of the material in the upper steering column from steel to aluminum to satisfy the weight-conscious. Little details like these are fantastic.
