1983 Mazda RX7 GSL. Near perfect deep black paint over rust free/bondo free Florida body. Body has 159k (and may go up slightly as I still drive the car a few times per week); 12a motor has roughly 58k on full Atkins Rotary rebuild. Suspension is all new (Racing Beat springs and urethane bushings) and car drives super. 4-wheel discs; limited slip rear. Power windows, power brakes, sunroof with steel panel and rare glass panel, 5-speed manual trans, cruise (works) and JVC Arsenal am/fm/cd/mp3/bluetooth player. New Racing beat cat back exhaust (cat is deleted) and car is still really quiet. Everything is 100% and car is a pleasure to drive anywhere... for an older RX7, it corners like it's on rails even with the 13" tires. Selling as I need a larger car for more seating - must be sold, so if you're looking for a fully sorted first gen RX7, this is definitely worth looking at!
Motor fully rebuilt aprx 58k miles ago by Atkins - runs 100% with stock Nikki carb
Rat's nest removed due to failed solenoids (car starts/runs perfect and returns 21mpg all day with daily driving - pushes close to 30mpg on the highway)
New K&N drop in air filter
New driveshaft
New Racing Beat springs
New Racing Beat cat back exhaust
New cat delete mid pipe with resonator
New Racing Beat urethane suspension bushings throughout
New dual alternator pulley (air pump deleted)
New rotary aviation adapter for injecting 2 cycle oil from separate oil storage tank into the motor for better lubrication - easily removed/disabled to return to stock
2nd Gen fuse block installed under hood to do away with the problematic fusible links
Cosmetic issues - the original dash was covered with a replacement dashpad cover. It's starting to wrinkle a bit. Carpet in rear cargo area is faded from sun exposure. One area of the paint has odd crazing (which was even in the original paint before the car was stripped and repainted - so slight it's impossible for me to photograph - it's above the gas door and hasn't ever been noticed by anyone but me). Body plastic pieces (@ rear bumper ends) are starting to age warp a little. Car originally had A/C but was removed long before I acquired it.
Car draws incredible attention wherever it goes - ALWAYS drawing complements on the quality of the paint and regarding the overall condition of the car.
All prospective bidders are encouraged to call me with questions or to schedule a viewing of the car. If anyone would be interested in having a local Mazda dealer look at it for condition verification, feel free to call me between 9am and 10pm EST @ 716.250.8439. Additional photos of specific areas available on request. Winning bidder is responsible for all shipping issues.
Once again, this car must be sold, so feel free to make reasonable offers!

Mazda Miata 'fathers' Hall and Case offer a tour through the roadster's history
Wed, 10 Sep 2014The original Mazda Miata broke onto the automotive scene in 1989 and was a huge success. However, the convertible's genesis goes all the way back to the early '80s. Bob Hall and Dean Case were among the inside men of the program on the US side, and they were on hand at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during the recent MX-5 event there to tell some of their stories about the project's beginning.
Hall was on the Miata project from very early on, and one of his most fascinating stories is how the convertible got its shape. The droptop wasn't necessarily going to be a rear-wheel drive roadster. There were both front-wheel-drive coupe and mid-engine concepts being considered. In fact, the classic look of the NA generation was the least favorite of the three at the sketch stage.
Hall comes off as a jokester hiding a genius mind. He has a fountain of information in his head about what a Miata should be, but it all comes down to "less is more." However, he admits that it's easy to conceive that idea, but it's much harder to actually execute it well.
Mazda Raceway gets first new MX-5 Cup as pace car
Sun, Aug 16 2015Mazda's motorsports department officially finished the first example of its new MX-5 Cup racer. But while the rest of the fleet will be used in the Global MX-5 Cup championship, this initial unit has been designated for another purpose. It's been dedicated to serve as the new pace car for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Based on the latest ND-generation MX-5, the Cup racer was previewed in racing spec this past November ahead of its debut at the SEMA show. Though we've still yet to see the final spec sheet, it clearly benefits from key upgrades to the rolling stock, not to mention the added roll cage, racing buckets, and more. The pace car also features emergency lighting and a livery designed by Mazda and applied by Sticky Fingers Design out of Huntington Beach, CA. The beefed-up little roadster will join a cadre of pace cars used at the legendary Northern California circuit. Other pace cars in the fleet include a Mazda6, RX-8, CX-5, and the previous Miata. The season is winding to a close at Laguna Seca, with the Pirelli World Challenge finale and Mazda Road to Indy still set to take to the track next month. (August 13, 2015) – Mazda Motorsports used the annual car-fest known as the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion to roll out the first production 2016 Mazda MX-5 Cup race car. This particular vehicle is guaranteed to lead races as it will be the newest pace car in the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca fleet of Mazda safety vehicles. The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Cup race car follows a 26-year history of the MX-5 Miata in motorsports. The first race cars to be sold to customers will be used in the 2016 Global MX-5 Cup, known in the U.S. as the Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup. With the 2016 racing season still many months away, placing the first production race car into pace car duty allows Mazda to gather additional durability data while showcasing it in front of one of the most influential motorsports crowds of the year. "For Mazda, this weekend is the perfect blend of past, present, and future," noted John Doonan, director of motorsports for Mazda North American Operations. "We are celebrating our motorsports heritage on the track with our vintage race cars.
Mazda RT24-P brings KODO style to the Rolex 24 at Daytona
Thu, Nov 17 2016In addition to its new CX-5 crossover, Mazda revealed its new racecar, the RT24-P, at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The car has been designed for the Daytona Prototype international (DPi) class in IMSA's WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and will make its racing debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. It was designed using Mazda's KODO design language, which the brand has so successfully applied to its road-going cars. The racer's relation to Mazda's production cars is made obvious by the small five-point grille at the tip of the RT24-P's nose. While plenty of credit needs to go to the stylists and aerodynamicists at Mazda and Multimatic, one of the companies Mazda partnered with on the car, some of the credit needs to go to IMSA's new DPi rules for 2017. The new DPi class is very similar to the LMP2 class that it competes with in the WeatherTech series, with some noteworthy differences. The DPi class allows manufacturers to create unique bodies and engine packages for one of the four chassis available. The LMP2 class requires competitors to use the chassis companies' bodies, and are restricted to one engine package. View 14 Photos As for the powertrain, the Mazda RT24-P uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that puts out roughly 600 horsepower. Mazda used the same engine in its P2-class race car last season. Mazda's body and engine will ride atop a chassis developed by Riley Technologies and Multimatic. You may remember that latter company as the one that developed the awesome spool valve shocks on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. The RT24-P will be campaigned by Speedsource, a company that has been racing Mazdas in American endurance racing for years, including last year's P2 cars. Considering Mazda's success in making such a cool race car, we're excited to see what other manufacturers do with the extra design freedom of the DPi class. Both Chevrolet and Ford competed last year in the WeatherTech prototype class with Daytona Prototype-style cars, and Honda competed with an LMP-style racer. Depending on what other makes decide, this year's WeatherTech line-up could have some nifty designs.
