"My Bee" has been a wonderful car for my wife for the last 5 years. We are actually the second owners as the first owner was actually the dealer who kept the car at their vacation home for a year.  The second owner of record only put 9K miles on the car in the next 4 years.  The exceptional condition of this gas sipping 4 cylinder wagon will please it's next owner.  It has a smooth shifting 5 speed manual transmission, front wheel drive, power steering, and has a peppy engine which gets over 30 mpg on the highway.  The A/C keeps you cool in the summer and the soft custom black/yellow leather seats will keep you comfortable all year.  Custom floor mats and cargo mat were installed to protect the carpets and brighten the interior while matching the  soft custom leather seats.  A custom fitted plastic cargo tray is included in the sale but not pictured.

Last year we replaced the front and rear brakes with Hawk HPS pads, Stoptech cross drilled rotors, and new braided lines.  We replaced all of the struts with new Tokico HP struts and alignment.  We also replaced the prior custom wheels with Stinger wheels and Hankook tires.  All belts were also replaced at that time.  The result is a wagon that handles like a dream without losing comfort and does it quietly.  We invested in these items as we were going to keep the car for a long time but a change in jobs has made it necessary to buy a newer, larger, (and more expensive) wagon for my wife.

All of the power options are in operating condition.  The C/D changer skips and should be replaced but the stereo radio works fine.  The interior door lock switch has moved slightly in it's channel (shown in picture of the interior drivers door) and still operates the locks well.  A known problem with the Prot'eg'e is that the headlights (inexpensive) seem to blow out  more often than most cars and is true with this Prot'eg'e. They are OK now.

The exterior is in exceptional condition with a couple of exceptions.  I pictured two small chips in the paint about the size of a pin head.  One is on the driver side rear door and the other is on the edge of the driver side front wheel lip.  I will touch these up before you buy the car.  There is an area where the paint is scratched in front of the passenger front wheel.  It is hard to see (even in the pictures in this ad) as most of it is below the visible part of the body.  Again this will be touched up before the car is sold.  My camera took great pictures but they are too large for ebay and these pictures were taken by my phone and are more grainy and less shiny.  Contact me to get better pictures if needed.  I am very picky about the looks and functionality of our cars and want to be honest about their condition.  You will appreciate the condition of this car and enjoy it for years.

The interior is beautiful with the custom leather being in excellent shape.  There are no tears or scratches but only a very slight rubbed area in the crease of the drivers back and that is not really noticeable.  The rear seat has some depressions in it from the baby seat but they are disappearing.

Any questions...just give me a ring at 314-359-2002.  I have priced it to sell fast so don't hesitate to call with your questions.    Mick

United States drivers buying fewer Mexican-made cars

Tue, May 10 2016

Crossovers and pickup trucks are not only growing in market share, they're also more profitable than cars. A crossover on the same platform as a sedan retails for thousands more, despite similar components. It's one of the reasons we've seen automakers rapidly shifting production of their sedans and hatchbacks to Mexico, where cheap labor preserves the thin profit margins on these inexpensive vehicles. But as the market continues to shift in the United States, Mexico is getting burned by its lack of product diversity. The country's auto exports, which are heavy on cars, suffered a 16-percent drop last month, Automotive News reports. In total, year-over-year exports fell from 233,515 to 197,020 last month, while year-to-date exports are down by 7.4 percent, from 922,029 to 854,118. The number one culprit? America – which usually accounts for 75 percent of Mexico's exports – and its appetite for crossovers and pickup trucks bolstered by cheap gas prices. While Mexico does build some light truck models – AN specifically calls out the Ram 2500, Honda HR-V, GMC Sierra, and Toyota Tacoma as export leaders – the vast majority of vehicles rolling out of its factories are sedans and hatchbacks. In fact, the three biggest drops in Mexican exports came from companies whose south of the border factories only build cars – Ford (Fusion/Lincoln MKZ and Fiesta), Mazda (Mazda3), and Volkswagen (Golf and Jetta). Mexican Automotive Industry Association President Eduardo Solis told AN the export shortfall will likely be sorted out sooner rather than later, thanks to a pair of new factories – a Kia car factory and an Audi SUV plant – that are coming online by year's end. The two facilities will add around 100,000 vehicles to the country's export totals, which Solis said should leave the industry on the verge of breaking another export record in 2016. But how sustainable will these record-breaking years be? Slapping an "Hecho en Mexico" sticker on a new German SUV won't be enough to change the fact that Mexico's product mix is tilted too heavily towards body styles that are not growing in volume. Mexico's record-breaking export years probably aren't at an end, but we'd argue they're certainly under threat. 2016 Mazda CX-5 [w/video]

Mon, Apr 20 2015

It's difficult for me to get excited about crossovers. I try hard not to be the stereotypical car guy: ignoring the fact that the rest of the world loves these tall hatchbacks, while yelling, "station wagons make more sense!" until I've voided my lungs of air. Deep down I am that guy, but I work around it. Historically the Mazda CX-5 is one crossover that has been quasi-immune to my knee-jerking. It doesn't weigh two tons, offers a manual transmission (in poverty spec, but still...), and looks faster than its competitors. Most importantly, the CX-5 can round a corner without wobbling like a Slinky at the top of the stairs. No item on that list of plaudits would likely crack the top ten "desirables" for average small CUV shoppers. So, for the 2016 update, Mazda instead upgraded the in-cabin experience along with the requisite nips and tucks to the exterior. I borrowed a 2016 model CX-5 to see whether or not those concessions to comfort affected the car-nerd stuff. And to see if the Mazda could still be my go-to CUV recommendation. Driving Notes The engine options are unchanged for 2016. You can still have the fine, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with its 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque, or its wimpier 2.0-liter lil' brother. My fully spec'd Grand Touring came with the bigger engine, which feels adequately powerful for the class, but not quick. In an era where turbocharged engines are everywhere, revving the Skyactiv 2.5-liter up to its torque peak at 3,250 rpm takes some commitment. I'm annoyed that there's no manual offered with the 2.5L (a combo I can have in both the Mazda3 and Mazda6), but I don't hate the automatic transmission. The six-speed unit is unobtrusive 99 percent of the time; something I regretfully can't tell you about certain nine-speed autos. There are no paddles to play with, but you can tap the shift lever up and down if you're struck by a need for total control. With a new center console and dash, and the addition of the Mazda Connect infotainment system, the '16 CX-5 feels like a new vehicle from behind the wheel. An attractive, pliant, leatherish material swaths the neat console and surrounding real estate. And the perforated leather seats feel damn near upscale. I think that Mazda Connect's version of the central control knob (with handy adjacent volume knob) is almost luddite-proof in its simplicity. There's no latency between twisting and reaction on the screen.

Why you absolutely need to take your Miata to a track

Wed, Nov 23 2016

Our long-term 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata entertained us all summer, but we couldn't let the good weather pass without taking a trip to a race track. So we headed to GingerMan Raceway on the other side of Michigan to give it some exercise. It's there that I fell deeper in love with our little silver-white Club and immediately regretted not taking it to the track every single weekend prior. I make a very simple case in the video above: Miatas belong on the track. They're made for it, especially our ND Club, the most track-friendly version Mazda currently makes. The Miata is also a wonderful tool for those learning to drive in these conditions. It gives you good feedback, there isn't too much power available, but the engine's output is plenty to make things entertaining. It's also one of the more balanced performance cars you can buy today and doesn't rely on fancy electronics to go faster – it's a nearly direct connection between you and the car, with no weird intermediaries or adjustable elements. This is really the simplest form of fun. To sum up: If you have a Miata, take it to a track. If you don't have a Miata, go buy one. Watch the video again if you're not convinced. Related Video:
