Mazda CX-5, Mazda6 and Mazda3 could stall due to software glitch
Fri, Jul 12 2019Mazda is recalling 262,220 vehicles due to a software error that could cause the engine to unexpectedly stall out. The recall affects 2018-2019 CX-5 crossovers, 2018-2019 Mazda6 sedans and 2019 Mazda3 models. According to NHTSA recall No. 19V497000, which was filed June 27, a programming issue in the powertrain control module (PCM) on select Mazda vehicles could cause the engine to shut down. More specifically, "the software controlling the hydraulic valve clearance adjuster may operate improperly when transitioning from cylinder deactivation to full cylinder activation modes." This could potentially cause the intake valve rocker arm to come out of position and hit something else in the engine. If this occurs, the engine could misfire, the engine could lose power, and the Malfunction Indicator Light would be triggered. The recall affects 143,004 2018 CX-5s, 81,236 2019 CX-5s, 18,295 2018 Mazda6s, 2,551 2019 Mazda6s, and 17,134 Mazda3s. Some cars from those model years received the improved software at the factory and won't be affected by the recall. Although the first report of a related issue was chronicled in January 31, 2018, no injuries tied to the problems have been reported. Mazda is expected to start its recall on or before August 26, 2019, and will reprogram the PCM with improved hydraulic valve adjustment control programming for free. Updated Mazda6 Wagon to look lovely in Geneva
Tue, Feb 6 2018For the 2018 model year, Mazda updated the Mazda6 sedan with some design and mechanical tweaks. It will take the stand for its European debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. There, it will be staged alongside the Mazda6 Wagon, which will be getting its own global debut at the Swiss expo. Unless there's some sort of miracle, we won't be getting the five-door version here in the United States, which is a shame, because it's a beautiful wagon. Customers here — apart from a handful of die-hard fans and, perhaps, the entirety of the American automotive press — prefer something with a bit more elevation to it. Ask a Mazda dealer in Michigan or Arizona for a Mazda6 Wagon, and they'll probably try to sell you a CX-5 instead. That frustrates the wagon fans. "It's gorgeous," said Autoblog Associate Editor Joel Stocksdale. "It kills me that we don't get it." The Mazda6 Wagon, like the new sedan, features an updated exterior and interior design, new seating, better performance, and improved driving dynamics. The Mazda6 Wagon will be on the show floor with a number of other beautiful cars, including the Mazda Kai and Vision Coupe concepts, which bowed at the Tokyo show. Mazda will also showcase its new gasoline-powered Skyactiv-X spark controlled compression ignition, which we were recently able to test in a prototype vehicle. Sunday Drive: Tracking Tokyo's top performers
Sun, Oct 29 2017The big news of the week mostly came from Tokyo. All of Japan's biggest automakers made waves at the Motor Show, but the winner of the event has to be Mazda. The big Vision Coupe and little Kai Concept stole the show, won our hearts, and earned a ton of attention for the automaker. We can't wait to see how these two concepts impact the design, engineering, and technology of future production models. Take a look at our mega image gallery post below to see everything in high-resolution glory. Interestingly, the single biggest click-magnet of the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show was the BMW X2. We shouldn't be surprised. Crossovers of all shapes and sizes dominate the American marketplace, and the X2 is clearly the most attractive of BMW's even-numbered, coupe-influenced X models. Plus, it's headed for production, with sales starting in the spring of 2018. Moving past the Tokyo Motor Show, Autoblog readers are apparently very interested in the 2019 Chevy Camaro. Spy shots of just about every iteration of Chevy's muscle car lit up the 'net last week, leaving us very interested in seeing what's hiding behind all that camouflage. As always, tune in to Autoblog next week for a front-row seat to all the happenings worth following in the automotive industry. 2017 Tokyo Motor Show | Mega Gallery Mazda Vision Coupe | Tokyo Motor Show's big, sensuous 4-door Mazda Kai concept hints at a more muscular, refined Mazda3 2018 BMW X2 crossover revealed, adorned in gold and silver 2019 Chevrolet Camaro: 1LT, SS, ZL1 all spied with updated styling
