This is my 3rd Miata. This is the best running one I have ever had. I had a 2002 and it was rather wimpy in 6th gear and pinged during shifting in the mountains. This 2004 I am selling is like a little rocket. Even when shifting to 6th gear it takes off. No lull in any gear.

I am selling this because my elderly mother no longer drives. She has a sedan that my wife and I drive her around in. Or, we use my wife's Prius. So, the Miata just sits in my garage. Never left outside.

I am in central California. My Miata is never exposed to a salty ocean environment, or road salted snow mountain conditions.

The oil and filter was changed last week. Always used Mobil One synthetic oil.

The upgrades listed below not only dramatically improve performance, but also make the car look great.  They have taken the Miata to another level. This Miata is a serious sports car.
The upgrades include:

1. Eibach-KIT PERFORMANCE SPRINGS (SET OF 4 SPRINGS)
Gives Miata a Beefy look with the factory body widening kit. Hides gap between wheel well and tire. Improves handling and ads fun. See this link for example. http://performance-suspension.eibach.com/products/mazda/miata/shinsen/2003/18l1839cc-l4/pro-kit-performance-springs-set-of-4-springs/5535.140

2. RoadsterSport 3 Polished Stainless Steel Miata Exhaust Muffler, Improved Exhaust from original with great roadster purring sound. Not loud or obnoxious. See this link for example. http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Part/11-1004.html
Adds engine zip along with the added cold air intake upgrade listed below.

3. AEM 22-482P Cold Air Intake System.  See this link for example. http://www.frsport.com/AEM-22-482P-Short-Ram-Intake-System-99-05-Mazda-Miata-_p_26626.html

4. ICW Racing 17" Rims. Came with 16's.
The 17's look great and hug the road much better than the 16's.
Please look at side body pictures of the tire against the wheel well.
Notice the No gap. That is because of the upgraded performance springs
and the 17's.  Takes away any notion that the Miata has a wimpy
look.

Come and drive it. Compare it to others. You will be surprised.

Next Mazda MX-5 Miata to weigh a ton(ne), literally

Wed, 27 Nov 2013

Looking at recent spy shots of the fourth-generation Mazda Miata, it's obvious this sporty little roadster will grow in size compared to the current model, but it's also going on a diet. At the Tokyo Motor Show, Auto Motor und Sport sat down with Mazda executive Kiyoshi Fujiwara, who gave a little more insight into the Miata's redesign.
Fujiwara said that they're aiming for a curb weight of a tonne (metric ton), which is 1,000 kilograms or right around 2,200 pounds, for the next-generation Miata. This would make the roadster at least 300 pounds lighter than the current NC Miata, but still about 200 pounds heavier than the original NA.
There is no indication as to how Mazda will go about removing that much weight from the bigger car, but with as popular as the power retractable hard top (PHRT) model is on the current car, the new Miata may ditch this feature to lose its weight. Improving the power-to-weight ratio appears to be a key goal of the Mazda team, so we also wouldn't be surprised to see a more powerful engine underneath the longer hood.

Mazda6 diesel may finally launch this year according to CARB certification

Tue, Feb 11 2020

For close to a decade, Mazda said it would bring its latest generation of diesel engine, Skyactiv-D, to the United States. And for most of that time, it said that engine would appear in the Mazda6. Last year Mazda finally brought us the engine in the CX-5, and it looks like this year, the 6 will finally get it, too. This seems to be the case based on a CARB certification posted on January 31 specifically for the midsize family sedan. The CX-5, in both front-wheel- and all-wheel-drive variants, is listed in a different certification, so it's not a case of a blanket certification for every vehicle the engine could appear in this year. As expected, the document lists the 6 as having a 2.2-liter turbocharged engine with a six-speed automatic, though it doesn't say whether the model is front-wheel-drive or all-wheel. Either is certainly possible, since all-wheel drive, in particular with the diesel, is available in overseas Mazda6s. Like in the CX-5, the engine will probably make 168 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. While this certification tells us the diesel 6 will probably launch this year as a 2021 model, we're left to estimate the reveal date. Midway through the year, or possibly at the start of the next auto show cycle would seem likely, which would coincide with a model year update. Mazda has stated it will only be offered on the top-tier Signature trim, which starts at $36,345 with the standard turbocharged gasoline 4-cylinder. Looking at the price difference between a turbocharged Mazda CX-5 Signature with all-wheel-drive and the diesel CX-5, the price difference is about $4,000, so it would seem reasonable to expect the Mazda6 diesel to ring in at about $40,000. Mazda's rotary engine may live on as a range extender (UPDATE)

Mon, Oct 16 2017

Update: We received a response from Mazda that confirmed plans for a 2019 electric car available in battery-only and range-extended models, but there was no comment on any other details. The text has been updated to reflect this. It may be time for rotary fans to start getting their hopes up a little for a return of the spinning triangle engine. Automotive News spoke with Mitsuo Hitomi, the man in charge of Mazda powertrains, who said there's a very good chance the next implementation of the rotary engine will be as an electric car range extender. The news source also suggests that such a vehicle could be just around the corner, since Akira Kyomen, Mazda's vehicle development program manager, confirmed to Automotive News that the company will have an EV out in 2019 in both pure electric and range-extended versions. We reached out to Mazda for more information, and a representative confirmed both the pure electric and range-extended models for 2019, but couldn't comment on anything else regarding those vehicles. Looking back, we have reason to believe that this really might happen. As far back as 2013, Mazda was working on a rotary-engine range-extended electric car in the form of the Mazda2 RE Range Extender. It had a total range of 250 miles, half of which came from its battery, the other half from a 330 cc rotary engine generator fueled by a 2.6-gallon gas tank. More recently, Mazda has also teased rotary power with the RX-Vision concept at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show and another rumored rotary concept at this year's show, which could be the design concept teased recently. But most convincing is the patent we found from Mazda that described a range-extended electric car that would specifically use a rotary engine. The powertrain layout looks just like the one used in that Mazda2 concept. There's also the fact that, as we've previously pointed out, and as Hitomi mentioned to Automotive News, the rotary could be a good range-extender due to its compact size and smoothness. Of course it also isn't known for being the most efficient engine, but if it isn't required to provide all the forward propulsion, it could be made small enough that it's frugal, and the added space and weight savings would be important for making the vehicle more practical, adding more batteries, or simply keeping the car lighter. This news might not excite rotary die-hards who have been waiting for an RX-7 and RX-8 successor, but they shouldn't quite abandon hope yet.
