You are bidding on a used 1996 Mazda Miata MX-5 convertible with approximately 84,000 miles on the odometer.  This car is in great running condition and a blast to drive with or without the top down.  I am the third non smoking adult owner of this Miata and while in my possession has been garage kept and not driven in winter. Here is a list of the features and options:
  • 5-Speed Manual Trans
  • Air Conditioning
  • Factory Hard Top
  • Chrome Style Bar
  • Aluminum Diamond Plate Gas Pedel Extension
  • Power Windows
  • Power Door Locks
  • Keyless Remote Entry (No Alarm)
  • Stainless Cat-Back Exhaust System By COBALT
  • Hella Halogen Headlamp Kit
  • Factory Tonneau Cover
  • Factory Soft Top
  • Glass Rear Window
  • Short Shifter Kit By COBALT
  • Drivers Seat Heater
  • Aluminum Shift Knob
  • AM/FM Radio With Accessory Inputs
The exhaust, headlamp kit, and short shifter were installed 2 years ago.  With the exhaust I replaced the pre and post cat O2 sensors.  The soft top is in excellent shape as most of the time down I have the tonneau cover on to protect it from sun damage.  The factory hard top is in great shape as well however it has been repainted in the past.  I am also including a rope and pulley hoist for the hard top allowing you to store the top from the garage sealing.

Mechanically the car runs great with the exception of a small valve cover leak I have been meaning to fix but have not.  The engine pulls you just enough to make you smile when approaching red line.  Shifting is effortless with a quick flick of the wrist.  The clutch, brakes, and fluids are all in great shape.  The tires are at about 70-80% and should last a few years depending on how you drive. A few years ago I had the rear main seal replaced along with all the seals in the transmission.  Wheels do not have any major gouging or cracks however they could use a paint job.

As I mentioned the hard top has been repainted but you really have to look hard at the window gasket to tell.  The car has typical dings, scratches, and chips for a car this age.  Unfortunately the rocker panels are rusted and bubbling in some spots as you can see in the pictures.  The rust is contained to behind the front tires and in front of the rear tires along the black painted rocker panel.  The rest of the paint shines up nicely with a little wax.  Windows are clear and the interior cloth seats have no rips or tears.

This car is a BLAST to drive and just fast enough to get you in trouble if you let it.  This action is for local pick up only in the western suburbs of Chicago.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.  If you leave a phone number I will call back after working hours.  Please take a look at my 100% positive feed back I have always received.  I have sold 2 cars previously on E-Bay and have always had positive feedback.  You can bid with confidence.  Apon winning the auction a $500 deposit to my PayPal account within 3 days is required.  The remainder of the balance is due in cash and must be completed within 10 days of auction ending.

Good luck bidding and thanks for your interest in my auction.

Mazda reports highest profits in its 94-year history

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

We may only be a third of the way through 2014, but for Japanese companies, March 31 marked the end of fiscal 2014, and it was a banner financial year for Mazda's global operations. The Japanese independent saw its highest global operating profits in its nearly 100-year history. Its global operating profits were up a huge 238 percent. Yes, a 238 percent increase over 2012 to 1.36 billion euros ($1.88 billion), eclipsing the brand's previous best year, 2008, by 12 percent. Net earnings, revenue and global sales volume also saw increases over the last fiscal year.
What's most impressive, though, is where Mazda saw improvement. The notoriously rough European market was rather kind to the Zoom-Zoom brand, where sales increased 25 percent to 163,000 units. That figure was bolstered by a 35-percent sales increase in Great Britain and a 20-percent jump in Germany, Europe's two largest markets. Japanese sales, meanwhile, were up a respectable 13 percent, to 244,000 units. In China, Mazda saw a 12 percent bump.
Notice we aren't talking about North American sales? That's because Mazda only saw a moderate, five-percent gain in the New World, with sales climbing to 391,000 units in the US, Canada and Mexico. This is particularly disappointing considering Mazda has launched three critically acclaimed products (CX-5, Mazda6 and most recently, Mazda3) for the North American market over the past two fiscal years. Still, it isn't a particular reason to be concerned, as IHS industry analyst Stephanie Brinley notes. "Five percent isn't terrible," Brinley told Autoblog, saying that Mazda should see a bump in 2014 as the Mazda3 picks up steam.

Mazda Miata getting i-ELOOP regenerative 'braking' in more markets

Wed, Jan 8 2020

The Mazda MX-5 Miata is getting the company's i-ELOOP regenerative "braking" system in more overseas markets. A few months ago, the company announced it for the Japanese market, and this week it announced the U.K. will have the feature, too. This has us curious as to whether it will be offered on U.S. market Miatas. We've reached out to Mazda, and we'll update this story if and when we hear back. As a quick refresher, i-ELOOP is a system that was introduced here on the Mazda6 several years ago, and it adds a capacitor to store electricity generated by the alternator during deceleration (hence our earlier use of quotes around "braking") that can be used to run interior accessories such as the sound system and climate control. Then, with power coming from the capacitor, the alternator can be disengaged, improving the efficiency of the engine by reducing drag. And by using a capacitor rather than a battery, the system is more compact, lighter and able to recharge faster than a similarly capacious conventional battery. As for effectiveness, the Mazda6 with i-ELOOP managed to get about 5% more miles per gallon on the highway than one without, going from 38 mpg to 40 mpg. While not a massive improvement, it was a measurable, possibly noticeable one. Applying a similar gain to a Miata would increase fuel economy from 35 to nearly 36.75 mpg on the highway, based on the automatic-equipped car's numbers. The manual would go from 34 to nearly 35.7. The i-ELOOP system is standard on all new Miatas in the U.K., which includes the 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter engines with either the manual transmission or automatic. Strangely, only automatic-equipped cars get it in Japan. This means Mazda could offer it on both transmission options in the U.S. Probably the key consideration will be cost. The system, when it launched in the U.S., was only available on the most expensive Mazda6, and even then it was an extra-cost option. And looking at pricing for the U.K. Miata soft-top and comparing equivalent trim levels, the price has increased between GBP2,800 and GBP4,100. The new model does get some new standard safety features, too, but we expect the i-ELOOP system is a significant contributor. If it is offered in the U.S., it might only be available as an option, and possibly only on the more expensive trim levels to keep lower trims more affordable. 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata design walkaround

Sat, Sep 13 2014

By now, you've likely read what we think of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata's new looks both inside and out, and you've probably poured over the available photos and started to make up your own mind about the roadster's radically more aggressive new appearance. More than likely, however, you haven't heard much from Mazda itself about its new design, and we're here to remedy that. Join Autoblog as we go over the new Miata from tip to tail with Derek Jenkins, Mazda North America's director of design. Jenkins, a veteran of both Audi and Volkswagen design studios, has been with the Japanese automaker for nearly four years, and he's kept a close eye in the ND Miata program along with his team in Irvine, CA. Check out our video to see Jenkins explain his team's exterior and cabin handiwork and to learn a little more about why the new model graduates from the Miata's historically cute and friendly aesthetic to something altogether more assertive.
