Hideeho I have delayed this as long as I can, but the time has finally come to find a new home for my Miata. It started life as ’94 r package Mazda Miata. It has since been customized extensively for SCCA solo competition in the SSM class or as a track day car by Speed South, originally for Robert Russom (who owned Speed South at the time). It has a HUGE turbo & custom horizontally mounted intercooler (to keep it out of the airflow for the radiator) utilizing a Greedy boost control to make 14.7lbs of boost & up. The heater works, but I removed the air conditioner system (I still have the components if you wish to reinstall it). The exhaust is a custom 3” pipe from the down tube back with a mid-mounted expansion chamber to keep the sound in check, at least a little bit. For electronics it uses a programmable Haltech system & a full MSD ignition system. It has all the typical gear to handle the extra heat of a turbo engine (oversized radiator, remote oil filter, oil cooler, fuel pressure regulator, etc.). The suspension has been completely gone through also (Koni yellows, 700# f / 350# rear springs, adjustable sway bars with heim links & reinforced mounts, raised rear shock hats). I installed a custom splitter & a dual plane rear wing. The interior has been worked over just as well with a 4 point roll bar with harness bar & camera mount, aluminum racing seats with harnesses for the driver & passenger, numerous extra gauges (boost, air/fuel ratio, fuel pressure, functional in dash oil temperature), small diameter removable steering wheel. The mounted wheels are 17”x7” TenzoR's (the RB's in the pictures are not included). There are also numerous parts that will come with the car (2 short blocks, a head, a timing belt, water pump & whatever else I run across in the garage for it). If you’re a large guy that has always wanted a Maita but never fit in one, THIS IS THE CAR FOR YOU! I had this Miata extensively customized to fit me. I’m 6’4” 350lbs. I fit under the roll bar & look nearly through the middle of the wind shield. I can even get in & out of the car with the top up! As it sits, shorter people (5’5” or so & under) can’t reach the peddles. If you are not as large as I am, I still have the stock seats that can be bolted right back in for you. Now for the bad stuff. There is a scratch on the rear wheel well & and another on the hood from cutting off an old hood lock that had broken. The interior door light that comes on when the door is open doesn’t work (dash lights are perfect). The soft top looks GREAT & doesn’t leak, but there is a tear where the back window is sewn on to the zipper. All the fluid levels are fine, but it has only been driven occasionally for the last several years, so they probably should be replaced before it is raced or put on the track, just as a precaution (the battery is new though). They’ll be fine for driving it home. If you would like other pictures or detailed pics of anything, just let me know. Thanks for looking & good luck bidding! |

Mazda's game plan: Compression ignition, superchargers, EVs — and still fun to drive
Tue, Aug 8 2017Today, Mazda announced its new Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030 initiative. Dumb marketingspeak name aside, this is Mazda's general plan to make its cars more efficient while still keeping Mazda's fun-to-drive character. The most notable part of this announcement is Mazda's new Skyactiv-X engines and the addition of EVs and electrified powertrains starting in 2019. As we reported back in January, this new supercharged Skyactiv-X engine family will be the first to use high-compression ignition, or HCCI, rather than traditional spark plugs. Each year, fuel economy and CO2 emissions standards grow ever tighter. Each and every automaker around is looking for ways to improve both factors. Initially, most have chosen to downsize engines and add turbochargers. That's why Mazda's new Skyactiv-X engines are going to be so special. They essentially work like a diesel engine, using extremely high compression to ignite the fuel rather than the flame from a spark plug. Adding a supercharger rather than a turbo retains a smooth and immediate engine response. Look for a 10 to 30 percent increase in torque and a sizable boost in fuel economy. Mazda's engine already have some of the highest compression ratios around, but these new engines will push well into diesel territory. The biggest issue so far with gasoline compression ignition is controlling when the gasoline ignites. Mazda claims to have solved this issue, seamlessly moving from spark to compression ignition. This new plan comes 10 years after the first Sustainable Zoom-Zoom initiative was announced. With Sustainable Zoom-Zoom 2030, Mazda wants to focus on the Earth, society, and people. Together with the new engines, Mazda hopes to create a sustainable future that still involves engaging and fun-to-drive automobiles. First, Mazda wants to consider emissions over the entire life of a car. That means reducing emissions generated while building the car or fueling and charging a car in addition to those released while it's on the road. The goal is to reduce emissions to 50 percent of 2010 levels by 2030, and a 90 percent reduction by 2050. New electrified models will debut in 2019 in markets that have a high ratio of clean energy for power generation. Mazda's focus on society aims to improve safety with the Mazda Proactive Safety philosophy. Like with Skyactiv, this ethos goes far beyond simply improving an engine or adding new active safety technology.
Editors’ Picks December 2022 | Genesis G90, Mazda3 and an old favorite
Mon, Jan 2 2023The last Editors' Picks collection of 2022 consists of picks from three different segments. The mild-hybrid twin-turbo V6 powertrain is smooth and powerful for effortless acceleration. Its air suspension and electronically controlled dampers waft you over poor pavement with nary a cabin disturbance. Every last luxury you might want for is present from auto-opening doors, massaging seats and rear wheel steering. It's all there for a price that is shockingly low versus the leading German luxury sedans, making it all the more impressive." Mazda doubles down with a pair of Threes
Wed, 06 Nov 2013Looking to appeal to the compact tuner crowd, Mazda brought two different flavors of its 2014 Mazda3 to the SEMA Show in Las Vegas this week. The Club Sport 3 Concept hatchback (above) has more of a racing vibe to it, while the Vector 3 Concept sedan (right) looks to inject a little extra fashion into the all-new Mazda3.
Hotting up the 3, Mazda stuck with the stock 2.5-liter engine on the Club Sport 3 Concept but added a limited-slip differential and six-speed manual gearbox, the latter of which was lifted from the CX-5 crossover. Other upgrades include coil-over shocks, a performance exhaust, Brembo brakes and an aero body kit - the latter of which will be offered to buyers at a later date.
While the Vector 3 Concept does get some performance bits like two-piece Brembo brake rotors and grippier tires, the focus on this sedan is all about styling. Starting with a custom paint job and ghost stripes, the whole look is tied together with 19-inch, V-spoke Rays wheels.
