2020 Mazda MX-5 Miata due for price bump, more safety tech
Mon, Dec 30 2019Mazda hasn’t released official information yet on its 2020 MX-5 Miata, but CarsDirect got its hands on an early draft of an order guide, which suggests both the soft- and hard-top versions of the roadster are due for a price bump after receiving more standard safety technology and some suspension upgrades on certain manual models. Starting price on the 2020 Miata Sport Soft-Top will be $26,580, not including destination, which is reportedly not yet listed, according to the report. ThatÂ’s $850 above the non-inclusive 2019 base price. The price hike on the Grand Touring trim is even higher, at $1,090. For the RF Club Hardtop, starting price inches up by $700 to $33,045 — again, excluding destination, which was $895 for 2019. If you want to drive stick, prepare to pay more for the Grand Touring manual versions, which will climb by $890 and $1,090 for the soft- and hard-top versions, respectively. ThatÂ’s down to new Bilstein shocks, a limited-slip differential, front shock tower braces and a sport-tuned suspension, which should make for fun driving for stick enthusiasts. The big news is that the i-Activesense suite of safety technologies, previously offered as a package, will go standard across all trim levels. It features lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and low-speed automated braking. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will also reportedly debut on both versions of the roadster as standard on Club trims and above. The Miata is already coming off a 2019 when it got an infusion of 26 more ponies and 3 pound-feet, bringing output to 181 hp and 151 lb-ft from its 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G inline-four engine, plus that limited-edition 30th Anniversary model. Looking ahead, Mazda is reportedly toying with the idea of electrifying its lightweight roadster for its next generation, expected mid-next decade. Related Video:
2021 L.A. Auto Show roundup | All the reveals, reviews, pictures
Thu, Nov 18 2021The L.A. Auto Show took place this week for the first time since the onset of the pandemic. It was a show packed with news and reveals, which hasn't really been the case with other shows we've seen this year, and Autoblog was on the floor covering every minute of it. Well, Riswick and Stocksdale were, anyway. The rest of us were sitting at home in our sweatpants, but hey, we'll take credit anyway. Let's get to it. Hyundai Seven Concept This is the Hyundai Seven Concept, and it’s meant to act as a preview for an incoming electric SUV for the Ioniq brand. It leans more toward the concept side of the spectrum than a production car, but expect the final SUV to take design cues from the Seven Concept. Kia Concept EV9 The Hyundai Seven counterpart isn't the only big, bold electric SUV at L.A. this year. Kia has its own take, and it's a modernized version of the traditional boxy utility vehicle called the Concept EV9. It also previews one of the next production electric cars for the brand, which should look right at home next to things like the Telluride. 2023 Kia Sportage HEV As promised, the 2023 Kia Sportage HEV has been revealed. The hybrid powertrain makes the compact SUV the most powerful version available, and it goes on sale next year. The engine is a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder paired with a 44-kW electric motor. Total output is 226 horsepower. The company didn't give a torque number, but it should basically be the same as the Sorento HEV that has the same basic powertrain: 258 pound-feet. Those numbers are a healthy step up from the 187 horsepower of the base 2.5-liter engine. 2022 Range Rover If you noticed how extra smooth and suave the new Range Rover looked during its recent reveal, Autoblog's James Riswick got a design tour that revealed some of the technological secrets to its success. "Less is more" is harder to achieve than it looks. Fisker Ocean Fisker has brought the new Ocean EV to the L.A. Auto Show, with a public preview at Manhattan Beach and a presence at the show itself. You can watch the public show reveal above, and see more shots from the show floor below. Fisker says the Ocean will start at $37,499 before incentives. That entry model would be the Sport trim with a single, 275-horsepower motor driving the front wheels and 250 miles of estimated range. It also has a 0-60 time of 6.9 seconds. 2023 Toyota bZ4X This is the 2023 Toyota bZ4X, due to hit U.S.
Mazda3 successor due in dealers this fall
Sat, 23 Mar 2013Following exciting new models like the 2013 CX-5 and 2014 Mazda6, Mazda is getting ready to introduce the next generation of its high-volume compact, the Mazda3. After talking to several of Mazda's dealers, Automotive News is reporting that the automaker is planning to introduce its new compact this fall, which is earlier than what was originally reported.
Aside from what we've seen in recent spy shots and what appeared to be a full-scale design mockup back in October, there is little information about the third-generation 3, but we can see that the car will get plenty of cues from Mazda's stylish Kodo design language, and we expect even more technologies from the company's SkyActiv efficiency program to come to bear. AN says that Mazda is hoping to top 300,000 sales this year in the US, and the sooner Mazda can replace the current aging 3, the better chances it has at reaching that goal.
