This car is a knock-out, simply put.  I don't think Mazda came out with a nicer color selection - the icy blue metallic and chrome.  The pics don't even do it justice. It has the benefits of Mazda engineering/performance and reasonable cost and looks like something exotic. This production run was a very limited number of cars in the United States.

I have babied this car to include frequent fluid changes and interior/exterior care.  It was our third vehicle so mainly got fair weather, top-down use.  And that was a blast!

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Speed Proportional Power Steering
  • Power Door Locks and Windows
  • 6 CD Changer System w/ premium sound upgrade
  • Cruise Control
  • Heated Bucket Racing Seats
  • Tilt Steering Wheel
  • Steering Wheel Audio Controls
  • All leather upholstery
  • Day/Night Lever
  • Illuminated Entry System
  • ABS Braking System
  • Traction Control
  • Tire Pressure Sensor System
  • Keyless Fob Entry System
  • Alloy Wheels
  • Rear Defroster

Here are the unique 2008 Special Edition features:

  • Unique "Icy Blue" exterior color
  • Unique Chocolate Brown Leather Interior (with Icy Blue stitching on the seats)
  • Chocolate Brown Canvas Soft Top (not available as a PRHT in the USA)
  • Chocolate Brown Leather Shift Knob with Icy Blue Stitching
  • Chocolate Brown Leather E-Brake Handle with Icy Blue Stitching
  • Chocolate Brown Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel with Icy Blue Stitching
  • Silver Dash Inlay Panel
  • Special Edition Floor Mats
  • Door Sill Scuff Plates
  • Unique Alloy Wheels
  • Clear Third Brake Light (like the PRHTs as opposed to red like all other soft top NCs)
  • Chrome Grill Ring (like that found on the PRHT models)
  • Chrome Fog Light Rings (optional on other Miatas)

As you can see this car is loaded and has a very unique look...I hope you like it as much as I did!

RC car drift video brings Fast and Furious style in 1:10 scale

Mon, Apr 13 2015

Taking a cue from Lexus' 2015 Super Bowl ad Let's Play, Falken Tire is proving that RC cars can drift just as well, if not better, than their full-size counterparts. However, to make things four times as exciting, this clip eschews a single hopped-up model hanging its tail out in favor of a quartet of them sliding around together. Starring 1:10 RC versions of popular drift machines like the Nissan S15 Silvia, Mazda FD-chassis RX-7 and Initial D star Toyota Corolla AE86, these cars also get a suite of blinking LEDs to lend some extra color to all of the tire spinning. Plus, the use of well-positioned cameras and a scale model environment almost makes this group look like they're at work in the real world. Mazda Miata speedster and spyder concepts set for SEMA

Thu, Oct 29 2015

Mazda will show speedster and spyder concepts based on the 2016 MX-5 Miata next week at SEMA in Las Vegas. The speedster is at the top of the teaser, and the spyder is the bottom half. The speedster goes with an extreme lightweight design. It has only a small wind deflector in place of the windshield and a blue ether topcoat. The spyder is a vintage roadster rendered into a modern form with a handcrafted leather interior and mercury silver paint job. Both are lighter than the production version and will be sure to get the hearts of Mazda fanatics and roadster enthusiasts alike racing at the possibilities. We doubt either will actually see production, like so many Miata-based concepts of the recent past. But that won't stop us from dreaming all the same. MAZDA TO SHOWCASE LIGHTWEIGHT PERFORMANCE AT SEMA WITH TWO MX-5 MIATA CONCEPTS - MX-5 Spyder and Speedster Concepts Bring Vintage Cues into Modern Designs - IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 29, 2015 -- The Mazda MX-5 Miata has been an exercise in honing the concept of a lightweight sports car for more than 26 years, created solely for driving exhilaration. But for the 2015 SEMA Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Mazda designers wanted to see what they could do if that idea was taken to the extreme. What they created were two vastly different takes on the fourth-generation MX-5: The 2016 MX-5 Spyder Concept and 2016 MX-5 Speedster Concept. MX-5 Spyder captures the character of a vintage roadster and translates it into a modern-day design, including bespoke leather interior details that were painstakingly crafted, and featuring a new Mercury Silver concept paint color. MX-5 Speedster is a study in the extremes of lightweight, purpose-built performance, paying homage to minimalist roadsters of the 1950s. The Blue Ether-painted MX-5 Speedster is uncompromised in its approach to wind-in-the-hair driving, going so far as to eschew a traditional windshield for a lighter deflector. Both cars are significantly lighter than the 2,332-lbs. MX-5 roadster that customers can purchase at dealers and come with a host of conceptual and aftermarket pieces and fabrication from partners including Racing Beat, Haartz Corporation, ASC – American Sunroof Corporation, Makin Industries/RAYS Wheels, KW Suspensions, Delta Seat, H&R Springs, Lusch, AC&A Manufacturing, Franks Fab Shop, Long Road Racing and SIM Specialty Interior Manufacturing.

Watch what happens inside a rotary engine

Thu, Mar 15 2018

Since it looks like Mazda may very well revive the Wankel rotary engine as a range extender for electric cars, there's no better time to become reacquainted with the quirky internal-combustion engine. And there's hardly a better way to become reacquainted than by peering into a running rotary engine, which you can do with the video above. The video comes to us from the YouTube channel Warped Perception. The channel has already shown what happens inside a conventional internal-combustion piston engine by putting a clear cylinder head on top of a flathead engine. This new video shows off the rotary engine by adding a clear side to a tiny model-airplane engine, something that we weren't aware existed and are glad to know about now. Despite the tiny size, the engine is functionally almost exactly like the bigger versions you'll find in Mazdas from about 1967 to 2012. It has intake and exhaust ports on the edges of the rotor housing, and the triangular rotor swings about in a peanut-shaped housing. For maximum effect, jump to right around the 7:40 timestamp. This is the point at which a bit of acetylene is added to the air-fuel mix for a brighter flame. It's at this point that you can really see when the mixture combusts and how the pressure of the flame pushes the rotor to produce rotational motion. Each stage of the video does slow things down to make everything as clear as possible. Even if you already knew how rotary engines worked, it's still fascinating to watch, first because it's something you don't get to see usually, and also because of the engine's elegant simplicity.
